I read this headline on the launcher and thought “Oh, CCP is doing something about the disparity in PLEX prices when purchasing in difference ecconomic zones, nice” and “Friction Free Trade? I can have NPC couriers move stuff I buy between markets? Or is it changes that might shift concentration of markets? Might there be a mechanic similar to industry job fees so the markets spread out a bit from just all being in Jita ?”

Inventory taxes should not be controversial, POS’s limited the amount of M^3 that could be stored in ships and materials and citadels just ramped it up to infinity. The amount of stuff each individual or corporation has should, if not capped to a M^3 by a service module(s) on a structure in line with Corporate Hangars/Maintenance Arrays did, absolutely needs an alternative balance charged per M^3 used. The industrialization of skillpoint farms cooked that market as a long term investment. Ship skins used to be worth holding onto long term and now most of the are soulbound. Hoarding a module or a ship hull is a huge risk due to ‘balance’ changes, meta 4 damage controls were 8 million a pop before tiericide, and luxury yacht price tanked after the removal of its nullification ( the combat ceptors went form 40 mill to 12mil within an hour of downtime ) bonus, those who hoarded them had to wait forever before it got a second high slot.

PLEX is the option most resistant to player and developer driven changes, at least for now. Give reasonable alternatives and diversification will follow.

Factoring in taxes its still going to be cheaper to buy/sell in the 0% tax trade citadels, so how does this not simply punish people who buy in the regions and NPC stations?

Outposts also got replaced by citadels, which had unlimited inventory anyways. They were thinking of taxing hoarded PLEX btw, not items. What tax would you want on your PLEX to be taken out of your vault every month?

Imagine how much harder running a rental empire would have been in null if the lords of the manor were not certain the peasants cowering behind the fortress walls would simply switch sides once the fighting was over and happily pay their tithe whilst counting their blessings their stuff was safe from destruction?

CCP is engaging in ‘money printing’ by creating PLEX ( and SP, but that is a different topic ) it out of thin air.

In real world economies printing leads to inflation, which becomes a tax against people’s savings. For this reason it can be argued that PLEX is already taxed, just not in a way that results in it being subtracted from the vault on a regular basis.
