GPU Driven Pipeline/Carbon Update - Known Issues

You have to remember that this is common to neurotypicals. It’s easy to put their situation first, and assigning such familiarity is how they function. We can’t all be Mr. Spock (autistic) LOL For example, I knew from the beginning of it being mentioned that it had nothing to do with T3Cs. How? Because I and others have the issue and never go near strategic cruisers! I’m a hard core miner and this is common to those as well. I additionally saw a forum post somewhere about removing certain windows security features helped some. It didnt help me, but it is also something to try. I believe they have noticed improvement from disabling Control Flow Guard for the eve client file. I don’t recommend it unless one is very careful, but it SEEMS to have been helpful to some.

That being said, it isn’t good to exclude someone just for this reason (acting neurotypically) alone. (Otherwise HOW would we ever be able to tolerate them BUAHAHAHA) Everyone can contribute to the problem/solution in some way

Not sure if this will help, about to install it. But today there is a Windows Update cumulative and in the details for it, normal rollout, I am reading: [Graphics kernel] Fixed: An issue where some game titles become unresponsive after upgrading to 24H2. Also a crap ton under normal rollout, but I digress. Do with it as you will.

I keep checking in hoping to see it is fixed

I’ll use chatgpt to fix my mistakes since im in a hurry right now:

I resumed playing yesterday after a one-week break and noticed a significant overall improvement in performance. However, some issues persist. Specifically, several clients crashed after docking at a Fortizar in low-security space—similar to the crashes I experience when docking at Jita 4-4. Additionally, I encountered client freezes when warping to a Supply Depot in Faction Warfare. As a result, I lost three Talwars (as recorded on zKillboard), as the clients froze and failed to initiate warp, even from a wing commander’s order, which is particularly unusual.

While the game now runs more smoothly overall, there are still noticeable delays and performance drops during the first few minutes after undocking in systems with a high number of player-owned structures.

I appreciate the progress CCP has made and believe they are on the right track, but it’s clear that some underlying issues still need to be addressed.

Hi.
We’ve done a lot of refactoring for Tech 3 ships, which has been released in today’s patch: https://www.eveonline.com/news/view/patch-notes-version-23-01
With this change, the performance cost of Tech 3 ships should be around the same as any other cruiser in the game - in particular when they are first encountered and stuttering could occur previously. I’d be interested to hear if this has resolved the issue for you

That would be fantastic.

Hi. Could you share your system specs? Ideally could you file a bug report and let me know the number, with your system specs included there. A BSOD isn’t normal and is probably related to the specific hardware / software you’re using in some way. If you send the details across then I can see if we can get a reproduction or if there is something which stands out to us.

Hey all. I wanted to post a bit of an update on recent patches, findings and changes. I’m not able to reply to every post on here and Reddit, but I do read them all and pass them on to the correct people when an issue is identified. I also try to reply to people to get more information where I can, but this may not always be in public.

To address a few common themes and findings:

DX12 and multiboxing

We released a patch recently (06-10.1) which should have vastly improved the situation with DX12 and people running multiple accounts recently. The TL;DR of this is that a client could hold onto resources more than it should, which could hurt other clients. We could see and track this issue in our automated crash reports, and after the patch, the number has dramatically dropped.

Tech 3 ships

Tech 3 ships have always been more expensive than we would have liked. We unintentional made matters worse with them after the GPU Driven Pipeline release. We made some changes that brought back most of the performance a few patches ago, but Tech 3 ships really needed an overhaul and a longer term fix to stop the long standing issue of stuttering when they were loaded. This was released today, where Tech 3 ships should be about the same cost as any other comparable size ship. Feedback is appreciated!

macOS and graphical artifacts

FSR1 was fixed on macOS in a previous release, but an annoying issue that could result in bright colours / stretched geometry could happen. This has been difficult to find the root cause on because it is very temperamental and difficult to reproduce. After the patch today, we believe we have fixed this issue but would like to hear from people if that’s not the case.

Flickering decals (like damage marks)

This doesn’t happen in every situation but can look ugly when it does. This will be fixed in an upcoming release.

High RAM use

This is often caused by mining lasers, with it getting worse when more lasers are in the same scene. It’s not related to the GPU release, but with some of the recent changes in New Eden for mining, I can understand why the connection was made. I have forwarded this on to the correct people to investigate and look at.

Onboard Intel GPUs

There are some older onboard Intel GPUs that are experiencing problems. Many of these are around 10 years old, were not designed for gaming, and have not had driver support for many years as they were released for Windows 7 and 8, which we do not support. We’re looking to see if we can do any workarounds for these, but it’s getting increasingly difficult to support these chips.

Driver related issues

There have been some major releases of new graphics cards recently with the Nvidia 5000 and AMD 9000 series. There have been regular driver releases that we strongly recommend you install. We know of at least 1 issue where a client freeze was eliminated with a driver update.

Windows 11 related 24H2 problems

We have seen an increase in issues with the 24H2 Windows 11 release. Unfortunately, there is no way for us to mitigate these within the game. There are 2 KB releases that I have seen help players: KB5058499 & KB5058502. In particular, this patchnote from Microsoft seems to be applicable to some systems I have seen with issues:

[Graphics kernel] Fixed: An issue where some game titles become unresponsive after upgrading to 24H2.

I believe Microsoft is rolling these out fixes out as part of KB5060842. If you’re on Windows 11 24H2, then make sure you’re on the latest cumulative update, as it seems to fix many gaming issues.

OneDrive

Some players have reported that OneDrive has been causing issues for them in EVE: Reddit - The heart of the internet . This is likely because the client stores logs, screenshots and some client settings in a location that OneDrive is syncing and sometimes locking the file. This puts the client in a situation where it needs to wait for the file to be free. I have raised this with the correct people internally to see what options we have. For now, if you experience this issue, I suggest that you exclude the EVE folder from OneDrive to see if this helps.

Still experiencing a problem?
If you’re experiencing a graphical/performance issue with the game after today, then please do file a bug report that includes as much detail as possible: System specs, where it happens, what you are doing to lead to the situation, etc. Screenshots and videos are also very useful to help us find issues. If you have a Youtube video that you don’t want to post in public, feel free to attach it to the bug report.

This thread is becoming a bit fragmented now, with many issues not related to this release being included (although I’m always happy to hear them!). I’d really encourage people to make a new thread in this forum with your specific problem, which more easily allows us to see common issues and tackle them individually.

If you file any bug reports, feel free to tag me in them - I do read them all

a friend sent me this today. This is game experience of undocking in NULL space with graphics off ( DX11 ), with 3d graphics ON just forget it. Version 23.01

Onboard Intel GPUs those GPUs used work just fine before the graphics update

we desperately need an option to start eve with 3D graphics off. Starting in space with graphics on in NULL can be extremely frustrating.

Hi. I need a lot more details, including what GPU this is. If you can get them to file a bug report and tag me in it, I’m happy to dig into it more.

its friends video, I’ll ask, but i am having similar experience on a laptop with 16GB ram, and GPU built into CPU intel I5. when i travel I used to be just fine doing daylie missions and simple tasks. Now I cant do much in NULL unless i stay docked ( high sec works better )

if it helps in any way in HIGH sec this is not happening

Finally fixed for me, game run very very fine now.
No more crash and distrurted graphs.
If you have an old pc with integrate graphic and you can buy a cheap graphic card.
Buy a 2 Gb GDDR5 basic one and game run fine.
You can find cheap ones for 30$ to 50$.

I bought a better one but with those it should work fine, no problems.
