Grinding salt when mining hard (not a joke)

Would you like to start a serious conversation about the new in game audio effects? I am obviously talking about the grinding noise when mining rocks and… yes, when huffing gas.

Below there are two videos (they expire in two days) for those who don’t know what noise I’m talking about.

I think the grinding noise of rocks… when huffing gas it’s terrible…

I can almost see why they were introduced. In my opinion, they serve to increase the poor miner’s dopamine level when the “ding!” of the critical hit arrives, but I don’t understand why they haven’t also implemented a way to suppress them. yeah yeah ok actually… you can suppress them by lowering down the UI sound level, but you lose the sound of many things like (d-scan pulse, cargo full ding, the new scanning thing for miners, etc…).

We have many checks and sliders in the settings menu, like the Use classic star map.

or the recently introduced Boarding Cinematic.

They could bind these sound effects with Quieter Wapon Sounds check box or simply add a check box to suppress them in the Audio Engine Settings.

They could simply add a slider under Volume Level

Why didn’t they do it?

I would encourage you to write the CSM.

I muted the sound after a few months of clicks, whistles, blips, and beeps. I made an effort to find a sound lexicon to simply explain each one. Apparently nothing like that exists. The game even claims to have music. I realize not every game company can hire Jeremy Soule to do their soundtracks. However I have several CD soundtracks I will pop on while the game is muted.

There are many games, I enjoy the soundtrack, this is not one of them. Aiko has an entire thread of AI music dedicated to this game and it sounds wonderful by comparison. I am pretty sure AI music still falls into a public domain grey area, since no human actually recorded it. There are plenty of real artists willing to sacrifice their first born to get their music published. They are handing out songs royalty free. CCP cannot say, good music is not affordable.

I would mute only the sound effects in this game, but there is no audio generated I desire to hear in Eve Online.

Have fun!

I want the ability to turn off dialogue audio in stations! It’s repetitive and highly annoying. I used to love the old station interior audio, it was very relaxing and I used to keep it on during sleep. Now it’s filled with human speech that you can’t mute.

“For the Amarr empire” you can turn down the human speech in station by playing with the advance audio settings (I think with the Atmosphere level or the UI speech level).

The discussion is not about the in game music.

I want to have some sound effects like the ship jumping effect, the wapring sound, cloacking or decloacking, the sound of locking targets, the D-scan pulse, etc…

The discussion is based on the fact that there are options, but it was decided to bind these new effects to an option that ruins the immersion/the survival in game, if you mute the UI sound level because you don’t like the grinding sound when mining, you lose the sound of locking targets, the D-scan pulse, etc…

If I don’t hear that I’m being attacked, I might not notice it.

I’ve never had the music on, in fact I don’t have the music on in any game I play.

I simply stick a YouTube playlist on or the radio in the background, or now winter sport has started I’ll have Biathlon, Cyclocross or whatever on the TV.

The discussion is not about the in game music, I don’t care about music.
It’s about the new in game mining sound effects controlled by UI sound level.
You can have the music off and the sound effects on and watching biathlon while mining results in an uncomfortable grinding noise.
