Help with my Drones

I do PvE with 2 toons, my 1 toon is having some really wierd behaviour with his drones. Basically if I dont manually click ‘engage’ on a target, or the target i have ‘engaged’ dies, his drones start flying back to his ship, like 30km trip every time.

I have clicked on the button on the drones in space window to set his drones to “aggressive” but this doesnt seem to change their behaviour in any meaningful way, they still fly back to his ship after every kill.

This doesnt happen to my main pilot. What am I missing here?

you’ll want to check what the Drone Settings are: Drones - EVE University Wiki

2nd check drone control range (skill based)

if the drones are out of range, they will return

Yes. The “aggro bubble” seems to extend not from the drone itself but your ship. In short, they are blind to anything else outside your realm of influence. I assume your main has some elite skills on drones making the aggro bubble larger. Drones running back to you, kites the enemy ships back at you as well. Keep moving and use the range limiter to stay in range for the drones but out of the way of the enemy.

What skills affect the “aggro bubble”? The drones are definately not out of control range, I usually park this toon in a paladin 25km ish from the warp in (with 54km of drone control range).

Edit: in the OP I said the drones were set to “aggressive” but that was the wrong name. Its called “auto-target”.

drones don’t necessarily auto target, when set to agressive they will respond to a new spawn by killing one, sometimes 2 before you have to lock the targets, they will also target any rats that target your ship, and in some cases the rats themselves that are targeting your drones.

when i’m doing sites with my Eos i find them better than when i’m in a say a frigate with drones.

its been a long time since i was in NS though i remember the same pattern there too.

as to what you are missing, who knows, people often go through life with their eyes wide shut.
