I reflexively tap my V key even when I’m playing different games, so it’s up pretty frequently, I’d say!
That aside, if I do get caught out for failure to d-scan, I simply blame myself for the slipup and grab a new ship.

Why is it that people such as yourself always pretend to be speaking on behalf of some mythical ‘they’ ? You always pretend you know everything about this ‘they’…their motivations, their actions, etc.
And the oddest bit is that those who shout the loudest on behalf of ‘they’ never really state what particular axe it is they are really grinding. I mean…with your own 641 kills…MOST of which are in highsec…your rant against ‘PvP’ is about as hypocritical as it gets !
How many of those 641 did you ask for ‘consent’ from before blapping them? You’ve killed more people in highsec than I have…yet somehow I’m the evil one ? Just how messed up is that !

Are you not looking what happens around you in space?
Unless I’m distracted I can always tell if someone is launching combat probes around me. It’s a pretty big sign of danger even if it’s sometimes used for more innocuous things like MTU hunting.
Even in the rare cases I fly in HS I can keep track of what happens around me on dscan, see the large mining fleets, or the bunch of criminals in pods who flew off just after a gank.
Playing EVE without using dscan feels like crossing roads without watching both ways, sometimes successful but needlessly dangerous. Watching dscan is routine, a basic action part of flying in space where most threats can be seen far in advance.

I’ve survived in pretty much all regions of space.
High sec is what I enjoy most. Funny enough I have the d scan on very rarely, only when things get suspicious.
My wallets not short of a few bob so that assumption pretty unfounded.

And since when was killing reds and flashies NOT ‘PvP’ ? I mean your entire rant is against highsec PvP…yet you yourself have 200bn worth of kills from highsec PvP.

While my dscan is open at all times it’s pointless to spam dscan when I already know what the others in my system are doing, so I only press it when a new person enters my system.
And if that’s a neut I warp off to a safe spot so when it turns out to be a wormholer in a Stiletto in my site 15 seconds later my ship is gone of grid right in time to see them arrive on it.
Using dscan and local I can then see their buddies enter system who woulf have destroyed my ship, see their Proteus get combat probes ready to find my location as I quickly pick up my MTUs in a Blockade Runner.
That’s basically how my ratting yesterday went, most of the time nothing happened.
Dscan is not to be spammed, only to be used when something suspicious happens. And if someone can be combat probing me right now, I am spamming dscan.

So how would you spot a scout d scanning in high sec when you don’t know half the players in local ?
First, you press dscan to see what others in local are flying.
Then, you press it again.
Keep that up until you have an idea of what people currently use.
Then when a new name shows up, dscan again.
And for good measure, dscan if you have nothing better to do.
If during any scan you spot combat probes, go on high alert. See if the probes are closing in, grab that MTU, start aligning out.
And if at any time all probes are on short scan, assume your location is compromised.
See now this is the kinda conversation that’s decent .
My standard systems are quite full usually , the incoming and outgoing traffic is frequent. I operate a toned down version of that with one eye in the local for reds. I do have most of Safety etc set as red .

Flying in full systems is an extra risk you take, I don’t even like doing that in null with 150 other blues in system. It’s too croweded and too easy to miss danger that way if dscan is always showing all sorts of ships.
Why not find a place further away from the crowd?

I’ve jump clones and sub bases set up all over Eve. If I’m camped I JC out to the opposite end of the galaxy and do another activity. Same if the system is too crowded to monitor local effectively
