I am a high security care bear first and foremost so I know this post will be flamed in the responses simply for that, and I also understand and agree that High Security space is NOT SAFE nor should it be entirely. My problem that I would like to bring up to the CSM’s is particular to one aspect of High Security space that I strongly disagree with and want to get player feedback on. This is specifically concerning Griefing MTU’s.
As it stands currently, players can freely grief others MTU’s in High Security space and only receive a Suspect Level Offense. Officially this is a reprecussion but unofficially this is often case intended by the griefer’s to intentionally delude a new or inexperienced player into attacking them, so they can freely kill the player. I understand this is as the game intended but in my opinion this gameplay mechanic and player mentality is intentionally subversive and a net negative to the community, especially to new and returning players who use PvE as a basis for building back up or starting fresh and learning the game. In my opinion this is a Dark Pattern. Very similar to tricks like trying to get a player to accidentally accept a duel with you so you can freely kill them and i’m sure there are many other tricks like loot stealing to force aggression.
My proposed solution is simple, for the sake of the high security carebears who are in my opinion mostly comprised of new or returning players who may not have the experience level or confidence to PvP yet. Elevate the offense of blowing up an MTU or even attacking it in High Security space to a criminal offense that can result in Concord showing up and/or not being able to dock immediately at an NPC Station. I think this distinguishment between suspect and criminal is intentionally subversive and only serves to benefit net negatives to the community who prey on the less knowledgeable/newer player base that Eve needs in order to continue to show growth/get more people to buy plex/Omega.
I’m curious to hear people’s thoughts on this. This is my proposal and it is not without flaws, maybe people have more realistic suggestions or maybe the core player base doesn’t agree that more can be done for High sec players. I personally drive this issue because I have a player who continuously harasses me in High Security space and has created an environment where I am constantly having to look over my shoulder for them and be very cautious with my MTU usage. Perhaps this is as intended but I believe at least in High security space this should be less of an issue. Low security and null/WH completely different story but in my honest opinion griefing mechanics like this make high security space feel no different than anywhere else.
Coming from a high sec player myself, I swear you people will find anything and everything to whine about. High sec does not mean safe. “Griefing” has many forms, and has been a thing since day one. Whether it’s stealing someone’s jetcan, suspect baiting, stealing loot/wrecks, or bumping.
You have exactly two choices. Stop using an MTU, or nuke him the next time he does it…
Well, respectfully, I disagree. I think just because a toxic or negative element of the game has existed for a long time doesn’t necessarily mean it should exist in permeance. But you are entitled to your opinion of course.
And what if CCP did implement your idea? Then the guy just keeps following you into missions and stealing your loot and wrecks directly. You still aren’t going to engage him anyway. You want to make stealing loot cans punishable by Concord as well?
This, exactly. Where does it end? Cans? Wrecks? NPCs in the anomaly someone else has “claimed”? Before you know it, HS becomes Hello Kitty Island Adventure. No, thank you.
I think this is a valid criticism, but my rebuttal would be the increased effort it would take and time and energy to do what you are proposing will reduce and limit the amount of “pirate” roleplayers who are really just looking for any excuse to be a toxic person. I think limiting the available avenues for negative players is a quanitifiable net positive for the player base as a whole and will result in increased player retention, the news of CCP paying more attention to High Sec may even bring more players in as I know through personal friends that many players have left over the years due to being ganked, griefed and so on. My proposal isn’t to make High Security space 100% safe so i’d appreciate it if you didn’t intentionally misrepresent it that way, my proposal is strictly regarding griefing MTU’s and elevating the associated offense from suspect to criminal.
This was not included in my proposal nor am I asking for that change, however by your own admission it is stealing which is a criminal act. The intentional obfuscation of that premise is what I disagree with.
I answered this question in my proposal for my specific solution suggested. I think you’ve made it clear that you disagree with that and I thank you for the engagement and feedback but continuing to obfuscate my proposal isn’t going to accomplish anything.
I don’t think you realize how far some players will go. Before the 3-minute bumping limit was implemented, I used to bump Orcas and freighters for hours on end until they gave up and logged out…
Well then I think it is clear that you are the kind of player who will have a very opposite point of view then me. And you are entitled to that differing point of view. Where you enjoy griefing and harassment at the expense of others, I prefer to enjoy the content that the game has to offer without being a net negative to someone else’s gameplay experience.
newbies are perfectly safe from griefing in the starter- and soe arc systems. also newbs don’t use mtu’s. they cost 10 to 20 times the value of a fitted noob ship.
it’s clear you’re asking for your own lazy ass to be uinbothered in an open world, full loot, pvp game
Long story short, if you want to see what EVE would turn into after you petition CCP enough to make it namby-pamby land, just play Echoes for five minutes…
