Altara. Do you believe that removing ganking would have a huge impact on the game?
Yes, I do.
‘Yes or No’ type leading questions are not how honest debates work. Plus I am still waiting for you to provide proof of your quite definitive claim. By this stage I will just assume that the absence of response on that means you don’t have any.
It’s not a leading question, I’m asking you to clarify your position.
The way I see it is that you have an opinion that removing ganking would have a huge impact. I have an opinion that it would have a negligible impact. In an ideal world we’d just accept these are both just opinions and they differ and that’s fine.
The problem is that you’ve declared that my opinion is “patent nonsense” then gone off on personal attacks. If you can so adamantly declare that my opinion is “patent nonsense” then you must have proof, right?
I had this drama on my server discord two days ago.
Three new players swarmed builds-and-discussion channel together and started whining how is everything so slow, too low XP for monsters, monsters being too hard and spellcasters being super weak on the server. They even referred to the loading screen hint I added “Playing spellcaster on this server requires skill.” as super rude as they know how to play it, but the server is badly designed.
Since I am spellcaster player main and as a DM I know how ridiculously powerful they are I engaged in this ranting, which I normally don’t do and told them that this is bs and spellcasters are currently the strongest class in game which can solo dungeons for party of 5+ melee.
The discussion continued and they brought other issue - that there are not enough informations on our wikipedia for them to come up with the perfect min-maxed build, that the powerful prestige classes costs 100 copper coins (currency dropping from boss monsters) and that it takes too long to farm that.
After that, I told them that this server is obviously not for them and they should try another one, I even recommended them my competition.
And they were like: You are super rude, how can you drive ppls who wants to play here away? Aren’t you a moderator?
I explained them that I am not just moderator, but also server owner and that I have no need for entitled players like them on my server who will (rage)quit after week anyway. And that I am giving them well-meant advice as from what they wrote it is clear that this server is not for them and as a developer I am unwilling to change the server to suit them.
Need to check if they HTFU or quit lol. But this was just perfect example. These players wants everything now, free and without any effort. And if they get that, they will quit after week or month when they already see everything the server(game) has to offer and have everything they can have. Then they hop on another server(game) and start the vicious cycle of crybear again. It is disgusting.
Honestly, if you find someone telling you that this game isn’t for you rude and toxic, then this is clear proof that they are right and this game isn’t for you.
That’s how they were raised.
By not telling people no, and not teaching them self control we’ve created this entitled culture.
The game is what it is to whoever plays it. My first several months in Eve (many years ago) was multiplayer mining and mission running. If none of my corp mates were on, I could run missions by myself. Since then, I’ve lived in null sec and lowsec and have become a PVP oriented player, but if I had decided to remain a full-time mission runner, it is still Eve Online. People get to play the game their way, and if all they want to do is to stay in highsec running missions (or trading, or industry, or mining, etc), that is their choice. It does no harm to players who focus on combat, and it even helps bolster the economy.
Sorry my friend, thanks for the nice story but it doesn’t really fit. You are the server owner and clearly have a vision for your game, how it should work and who should play it. And it is completely okay if you as the “creator” of the game send players who are not satisfied with it elsewhere.
However, thats not the case for EVE. Those people telling others to leave are neither CCP officials nor entitled in any way to speak for the players or anything. They are neither a majority nor even exceptionally good at the game so their advice is loud, harmfully one-sided and in most cases of no real value at all for a new player who wants to experience all the vast opportunities of EVE.
Nonsense. The very definition of a leading question is where you demand a yes or no answer to your own particular phrasing of an issue. It is precisely why you hear ‘Objection…your honour !’ in court.
In an ideal world you’d state your opinion as an opinion. But you keep doing this…stating your opinion as if definitive fact, and then 100 posts after the event resorting to ’ Oh…but I was just stating my opinion’.
I was quite happily discussing the issue totally impersonally and in general terms before you chimed in with "You’re not exactly an experienced pilot… ". What was that about personal attacks ?
I beg to differ. CCP set some rules in this game and some mechanics such as CONCORD arrival time based on system security status. These mechanics are clear proof that this player emergent content, the suicide ganking, was planned by developers from the very beginning.
And these peoples wants this removed and cry every day about it being unfair, toxic, against rules or whatsnot.
All because they can’t stand the idea that nowhere is safe, an idea the whole game is centered about.
And as such, these calls “this game is not for you” are deserved and very well meant. If someone is unable to accept this core design of the game, he is playing the wrong game. It is simple as that.
I did. You called my opinion “patent nonsense”.
No you weren’t. Not only were you attacking me here you started attacking me on another thread too.
I’m all for that. But I am equally all for a universe in which nobody is 100% safe anywhere. PvE and PvP are not mutually exclusive.
If you spout unproven nonsense then expect the word ‘nonsense’ to be part of the response.
I stated my opinion, that’s all. You called it nonsense because you hate anyone who doesn’t have the same opinions you do. You have no evidence that it’s nonsense of course, it’s just an opinion you don’t like.
Also: FLEEEEEEEET
Players were getting ganked in high sec in 2003 and continue to be ganked in high sec in 2023. 20 consecutive years of high sec ganking. EVE clearly always has been, and always will be, a PVP game. But by all means, do continue with this 100-page dumpster fire of a thread that will accomplish absolutely nothing…
Why are you trying to derail the conversation?
Accusing others of doing that, just to turn around and do it yourself is, pretty poor taste.
That was just added in. We got rekt. by the way. ![]()
I wouldn’t say nothing.
It’s fun to read while sipping coffee, and laughing at some of the posts and meta foruming. Some of the insane things like abusing the flagging system over completely inane things like “accusing someone being an alt.”
It’s too funny.
You said “highsec ganking [is] dead”, for all “intents and purposes”.
Looking over my alliance’s monthly stats, we had a typical month, third best in value killed for the year, it’s business as usual.
Maybe you could go into further depth into what you’re basing this statement on.
I mean, if Tesla sold on average 36,000 cars per month in 2022, then the federal government reduced EV rebates in October, but Tesla goes on to sell 43,000 in December, would it be accurate to say “nobody is buying Teslas anymore”? I don’t think so.
