Highsec Ganking Epidemic of 2026?

I havent really been playing since roughly Christmas. I am considering returning to the game and doing a move op, but according to Dotlan’s kills viewer, many high security systems near my home have disproportionately high levels of gatecamps. Common offenders include the Dodixie → Hek pipeline, systems on the route between tutorial and career agent systems, and basically any system in Caldari space, where I currently live. Also, CODE. seems to be making a comeback. has anyone else experienced this and if so, do you have tips?

Ganking is out of control.

Your only hope is to pay them to go gank someone else.

Sure. Bring your armor or shield skills (depending on what you fly) to 5. Bring the other to 4 mininmum. For example, mining ships are shield oriented ships so that’s what you need to be at level 5.

Don’t fly faction freighters. They can’t be tanked so everyone knows what it takes to destroy them. Fly an Avalanche. They are much stronger when shield tanked.

If you fly big, tank. If you fly small, fly cloaked and fast. Covert ops haulers that warp while cloaked is what i use.

Yeah, just pay them off. It’s 100m to get them off your back for a year, it’s well worth it.

It is an epidemic now? I wonder, does that mean it is contagious or just widespread? Let me know when it goes pandemic, since that means universal. Let’s hope it doesn’t become empyrean.

Don’t you just love buzz words?

@Karana_Mekara I haven’t been ganked in ages. I keep covering this and repeating myself.

  • Don’t fly autopilot, it should be relabeled “Auto Suicide” button.
  • Don’t use auto-pathing, it leads to certain death from gate campers.
  • Use the map features, such as; ships destroyed in the last hour, active pilots in system, etc..
  • Make you own custom route from what the auto-path shows you.
  • Avoid hauling on the weekends, pick off days or off times.

Have fun!

Bring your Drake! Nobody ganks a Drake!

(waiting for someone posting a Killmail of a ganked Drake)

This is your biggest issue. Break your Jita addiction, move out of Caldari space, and the problem will largely go away (though, never completely). However, I think you should still master a solid foundation of gank avoidance techniques, because they will still be needed elsewhere, if only less.

  • Set known gankers red and learn to watch local.
  • Learn to use d-scan, especially when mining or exploring.
  • Learn to use safe spots and tactical bookmarks, especially in market hubs.
  • Learn the cloak/MWD trick and use it when hauling.
  • Learn to use in-game and out-of-game intel tools to identify hotspots before you travel.
  • Learn the gank chokepoints and avoid them.

EDIT to add: plus the points @Princess_Rose_Ivory mentioned above, particularly the one about autopilot.

This is bad advice.

If you set a ganker red, that is only going to sabotage your diplomatic efforts. Don’t be antisocial and unfriendly! You should set the ganker to blue ‘excellent’ standing, and send them a polite message along with payment.

Pro tip: Don’t pay the minimum - always tip generously!

It’s true. Just pay them, they are just too good.

I heard if you pay the gankers, they actually invite you to a channel where they all hang out listening to dank Eurobeats while getting high all day.

I heard that in that channel there is also a cool and awesome princess in there, that doesn’t get appreciated enough for all of her hard work she does everyday. And if you are nice to her and donate one billion ISK, then you just might have made a friend for life!

A little tip for those who like to warp their bling bling around HighSec

You are just showing off and they will chase you like little league soccer.

Remember you are the ball and they all want to take the ball from you to score the goal ie loot.

just outsmart them and don’t be stupid. Simple as that.

Seriously. They should just remove this feature from the game. It’s a trap for newbros. I remember using it as a new player because I had no idea what I was doing, and getting from system to system took foreverrrr. Because what the hell is the point of an auto function that is worse than mindlessly clicking the jump button?

It has its uses under specific conditions (e.g., auto-docking), but autopilot is like a woodshop bandsaw. If you don’t know how to use it, and use it properly, it’s less a tool and more a hazard.

People like to claim autopilot can’t be good because of botters, but they’re already going to be using a script that pushes jump for them anyways.

Yes it is - don’t poke your head out of the station without a mining permit and a Safety Mask.

Well, I think “newbros” that fly too costly ships that make them a viable gank target would learn this lesson anyway. Autopiloting said ship might simply speed up that process quite a lot.

I often use autopilot when I have longer routes to fly and other things to do in the meantime. Like 40j from Jita to the next best WH entry system on our chain. I can go clean the kitchen, cook some meal, pet the cats… whatever. I just don’t autopilot expensive ships. Nobody bothers for a passive-tanked 1600m plated Battlecruiser or HAC with T2 fit. You’d sacrifice lots of ships and can loot 20 million ISK - at best. I don’t even remember that anyone even tried to attack an autopiltoing Navy Harbinger or Drake or Sacrilege…

And shuttles of course. Jeez I autopilot shuttles like 5 times a week. Literally nobody cares.
