I gotta say this game is FCKING BORING!

I bought this game in 2003 and I’ve barely played it for many years now, I tried to make an effort at the end of last year… But no.

The skill system isn’t fun and for all the people playing it serves no function, all it seems to do is put people off. If you had a skill cap and a real time grind function to it like Star Wars Galaxies had, I could understand… But as far as I can see all your players have maxed it out… So what is the point of it?

The combat is still that boring click and point style thing… Why? You guys made EVE Valkyrie. Why are you still using this crappy combat system that feels 20 years old because it is? It isn’t engaging in any way and it doesn’t reward skill, only numbers.

Though I am glad I can finally play the game as it doesn’t work on Macbook lol… Dunno why but every Macbook I’ve ever owned, it doesn’t work on.

A skill progression system can be found in every MMO.

The function of such a progression system is that it spreads the access to content to bring focus to your content, to ease new players into gameplay features one at a time for learning purposes and to give people something to strive for to increase the longivity of the game.

EVE does the progression system in a way I like much more than your suggested ‘real time grind function’, because no matter the progression system, your progress is going to be delayed either way.

The good part about EVE is that I don’t need to spend grinding repetitive tasks for many hours to progress, unlike grind-based progress games. Instead we progress automatically! That’s a win, in my opinion.

The combat of EVE is ‘boring click and point’ because it’s not a dogfighting game. It’s a different genre than you’re looking for. Maybe look for a different game, instead of asking EVE to change the fundamental way the game plays?

Lastly, I think I know why the game doesn’t work on every Macbook you owned. Macbooks are generally not used as gaming platform.

Most players have it maxed out? Most players have not been playing for like 25 years (older than the game) or have spent what I assume is $15k+ to get all skills. It beats having an XP grind that forces you to do whatever thing makes the most XP this patch, and if you can’t play for 2 weeks you can at least come back to having higher stats. It also gives you reason to play on the same character(s) instead of spying/stealing, getting caught, having to make a new account and still having access to everything without a huge waiting period of big upfront cost - ironically it’s what balances spying and stealing

I find combat in EVE boring too, possibly because I am so completely useless at it. Even though I enjoy the process of building the ships, and I enjoy the puzzle of fitting the ships, I haven’t been able to find much fun in actually flying them yet.

I am not bored though, there are many other interesting things to do besides combat, I really enjoy the economic aspects of EVE. But if combat was my only interest then I probably wouldn’t be playing this game.

Not every game needs to be the same, not every game needs to be what you want it to be. No game is aimed at everyone, as if that would even be possible. It’s completely fine to not like it, having said that your posting history is just nothing but negativity so that just makes it easier to discard.

The game isn’t that boring. I have an acute case of Attention Deficit Disorder and it manages to hold my attention for a few hours. Maybe because I like space ships and sci-fi. It definitely isn’t a game for everyone.
The Skill system is no fun but I figure you have to take the bad with the good. No game will ever be exactly the way you want it unless you code it yourself.
The combat isn’t great but the mechanics are engaging enough to interest me. There are some tactics to learn and I like the challenge of figuring good/novel fits.

I have a rotation going. Mission salvage explore mine and randomly haul when x amount of junk has piled up from everything.

Doing any 1 thing over and over is going to get boring.

I was drunk when I made this post, but it still stands lol.

I see…

??? Yah gl finding a multiplayer game w/o that.

That got canceled.

This is a third person POV game. Think of Warframe for example.

Because this game is 20 years old and replacing something so old would cost so much money it is better to just make an entire new game? :joy:

That is intentional by CCP. Biggest group/gang wins.

EWWWWWWWWWWW MacBook :face_vomiting: That gives me some insight to you lol. (Insert every stereotype here)

That explains the lack of critical thinking.

:100: :100: All MMOs and pretty much all games are like this. I don’t think of games in their absolute terms. People will play hit games like Helldivers 2 forever for example and in that game all they do is just shoot NPCs that do various things. Will that get boring after the 129023402th mission? Depends on how you view life.

If you haven’t had fun in twenty years, that’s sad!

Perhaps it should… At least partially.. I mean, it wouldn"t be THAT bad if some skills were the " grinding " type.

Maybe that way, more people will get in and stay for a bit more, and bots & alts would have something actually active to do… so one can take two or more on one shot.

Well, not so fast.

Meh…I started in September 2021 and am just about to pass 1000 killboard kills and just 24 losses, across my 6 main chars. Been involved in 2.3 Trillion worth of killing. I’m getting my first solo kills now as well. Not bad for someone who started out as the biggest carebear in the game. All great fun and I fully intend to become a force to be reckoned with…within a year or so. Eve is entirely what you make it.

I hear that drunk people going on roams have tons of fun

I started playing Eve because it reminded me of an old EA game I use to play back in 1992. Starflight allowed you to explore a smaller universe on your PC. You went about mining by actually landing on planets. Ships required a crew, upgrades, and repairs. You did more exploring and looking for clues to solve a mystery.

Eve is not my “go to game”, I have more fun with off line games compared to Eve. I don’t play online games to be anti-social but most (better than half) of the players seem to be very anti-social. It would require too much effort to form a corporation without spies getting inside, or people plotting to blow up your stations only seconds before they go online.

As for the combat simulation, I can enjoy it a lot more than I did playing Star Trek Online. Space seem a lot more 3 dimensional on Eve. I do miss the affect of being able to jump into a fighter and use a flight stick to control the craft. However this is the future of deep space and even NASA uses massive computers for modern spaceflight.

While I was never an Apple fan, have you tried Wine for Mac? I run Linux Xubuntu 22.04 myself and use Wine for most of my Windows apps. This YouTuber has managed to get Windows to run faster in Linux using a VM with KVM and VFIO. I don’t want MS Windows, so I never tried his solution. I imagine you feel the same, wishing more game developers would make their software cross platform.

Good luck in whatever you decide to play. o7
