I think battleships and capital ships could use some minor improvements

As we all know, battleships have an escape bay that can hold a frigate, but I see some issues with this—since this escape bay can accommodate a 16,500 m³ frigate, it should obviously also be able to fit a 5,000 m³ shuttle. Why is it designed to only allow frigates?

Then there are capital ships. Currently, they face a serious problem—a lack of effective means to counter non-capital ships. Regarding this, I have an idea: equip all capital ships with a module similar to the Standup Point Defense Battery. It would feature two firing modes—scattered fire and concentrated fire—with a range of 25 or 30 km. In scattered fire mode, it could effectively neutralize drones and frigates within the area, while in concentrated fire mode, it would deliver firepower no less than that of a T1 battleship, allowing it to deal with some close-range non-capital ships.

Additionally, I suggest adding an escape bay to capital ships that can accommodate either a frigate or a shuttle.

The escape bay has some limitations.

It allows:

  • All T1 Frigates
  • Assault Frigates
  • Electronic Attack Frigates
  • Logistics Frigates

In other words, it does not allow:

  • Covert nullified exploration frigates
  • Nullified interceptors

None of the frigates that can fit a nullifier to ignore warp disruption bubbles can be used inside the escape bay.

It seems to me like CCP made these restrcitions because they wanted the frigate escape bay not to be a “get your implants out of a bubble free”-bay.

A shuttle is nullified.

It makes sense that the shuttle is also not allowed.

All capital ships have a ship maintenance bay that they can fill with shuttles and frigates. Once the capital ship goes *pop* you can then board one of those frigates or shuttles and warp off.

Even out of bubbles in this case.

Smartbombs exist for this purpose.

That’s called a Fleet.

I can only repeat what the others already said:

  • only ships unable to ignore bubbles are allowed in the escape bay, for a good reason. The game doesn’t need a free “save your implants” method.
  • Capital ships should have problems fighting way below their own weight class. They can fit HAW weapons and smartbombs already and besides that, they should rely on an anti-subcap fleet to protect them. They should not be solopwnmobiles.

We already had capital ships that could fight against small ships for the better part of the existence of capital ships. It wasn’t good or fun for anyone. Capital ships have their purpose, and it’s not to fight against sub capitals.

Capital ships should be able to fit a capital-grade SCARAB launcher with ~50 km range. +1 for adding a shuttle to the escape bay, even though the whole escape-bay concept feels a bit odd to me.

Shuttles are nullified, letting players put them in battleships makes battleships more or less immune to getting podded. There’s a reason we’re only allowed to put some specific frigates in there. You could fly a ship with a maintenance bay or fleet hangar, put an assembled shuttle in there, and board that when you get popped. This is more balanced because your capsule is at least on grid for a few seconds before you can warp off.

Not letting players put a shuttle in the escape bay is anti-sandbox

Maybe CCP could make a new shuttle that can be put in the escape bay which is identical to other shuttles except lacks nullification. It could be called escape shuttle or something, though then the bay needs to be renamed from frigate escape bay to something else as it is no longer restricted to just frigates.

It does not seem like an escape bay if you can’t put ships that are good for escaping

And CCP could just call it ‘Atron’, ‘Executioner’, ‘Condor’ and ‘Rifter’…

There is one covert ship that can fit in an escape bay. Only one.

Metamorphosis. That ship can warp while cloaked.

Indeed, but the Astero is also the only one of the exploration frigates that cannot fit a nullifier.

So it can cloak, but still cannot ignore bubbles or light cynos.

How about the Metamorphosis by the way? Never checked that one.

Edit: Oh you meant the Metamorphosis. Seems there’s two then. Both Covert Ops, neither nullified.

I personally never liked bubbles. They’re too easy to use.

I mean… This image says it all… This is too strong to be worried about making sure that there are no counters. If you can drop this many bubbles and spell out “LOL”, I think we’ve long since passed the “There shouldn’t be any way to escape this” stage of the discussion.

You missed the artwork below those bubbles!

I was just looking at the grid while you posted that. LOL

Usually keeping that many bubbles up is hard.

It requires a stronger force to defend all those bubbles and you have to do that continuously, because they can easily be destroyed once left unattended.

This was a special case though, of two major coalitions in the game of which one imploded. They no longer have the will or capacity to fight back and clear those bubbles.

Still though… one of the limits of the escape bay is no cloaked ships (with the exception of the Metamorphosis). They should allow the Pacifier in there as well as other cloaked frigates that aren’t nullified.

Because SCARAB dots don’t stack, capitals must avoid stacking for max damage — launchers and ammo may be expensive. Peace.
