ICC Conference. A new way forward

Without addressing the other remarks made herein, as the CEO of CCI00 and the LUMEN stakeholder organizing the ICC, I welcome all parties of all empires to join us in building trade relations and a better future.

CCI00 is a proponent of lawful emancipation, and we look forward to the day when all persons held in bondage have earned their freedom in service to the empire, together in benefice and light. We welcome all new partners in this endeavor as well, and by promoting economic activity which is based on individual and respective effort and reward, we are hopeful to promote an environment conducive to one in which persons held in bondage may achieve lawful emancipation, as done by many of the monarchs in recent years in Amarr.

While we acknowledge the position, inflammatory attacks will not yield an improved life for those held in bondage, but instead will result in greater social pressures for such persons, leading to harsher lives for such individuals and groups. Put another way, opposing trade is a step back, not a step forward, for any would-be abolitionists.

This is especially the case since the Gallente Federation has long held that commerce in various forms yields greater prosperity and a society which engenders greater freedoms, both individual and for respective groups. Therefore, promoting trade is a step forward, whether from the perspective of economic development in Amarr or societal improvement from the Gallente perspective.

We therefore welcome all capsuleers in joining us tomorrow for the ICC and we look forward to building a better future, together.

In other words, this would be mostly trading with the Amarr who do want to end slavery, so itā€™s important to show support for that and make sure we demonstrate that there are carrots as well as sticks.

Ideally any conference that promotes a decrease in hostility and an increase in the quality of cooperation between peoples is a worthwhile endeavor. I will be in attendance though I am hardly an individual with enough expertise or reputation to contribute anything by way of speech or presentation.

As it turns out, that is exactly what happened there.

I attended the event, expecting that the Empireā€™s culture of reclamation through slavery would be correctly represented, explained and defended. The opposite was true.

I was shocked to hear that mr. Ormond got what he wanted. Well, at least from the keynote speakers representing LUMEN at the conference - among them an aggressive Thukker who now seems to have become a prominent leader within their ranks. This was an open, unabashed, and frankly scandalous support of abolitionism.

It may be that a large part of LUMEN is pro-abolitionist but I somehow doubt that is the majority opinion within the Empire or thereā€™d be movement to restructure the social and economic system already.

I was also in attendance, there wasnā€™t any discussion of abolition at the greater Empire scale because Iā€™m fairly certain everyone in attendance understood the implausibility of such a proposal. It was more focused on the structure and opportunities surrounding specifically the enterprise which hosted the conference.
