Ctrl + Shift + F9 turns off all graphics besides the HUD while you are docked. It’s that simple. If you want to “save power” and “increase performance”, that feature already exists…

It’s not the same and you should know that, people don’t want to see a black screen with buttons while docked. And especially people aren’t wanting to constantly manually switching graphic modes between docking and undocking. It isn’t like anyone said “people do want to save energy!” as their main focus. It’s a side effect, a beneficial one many people would chose if they had the option to. But you are basically suggesting to “just walk!” in a discussion about more fuel-efficient engines. It exists, but it is completely useless for intel purposes. You won’t see any ships outside afai-tried.
I am not against view outside from NPC stations button. But I have to agree with @QuakeGod on the power consumption argument. If someone is playing on a low-end laptop or something like that and he has problem with loading times, fans overheating etc. such player should either upgrade his HW or accept that he is going to have to play with minimal graphical settings and even black screen.
I mean you don’t have to play with black screen all the time, if you have problems undocking, then use it only before undocking and reset it back once you safely undock. It will be much faster solution that “view outside” too.
I disliked from the start all these graphical and UI updates that made game 10x more CPU and RAM expensive to run than before when most of us are playing completely zoomed out anyway, but I understand that it might have been needed to lure new players. I just hope it worked… And there was a lot of peoples applauding this and nobody really complained so that is on us too.
While your points aren’t wrong by themselves, they miss the point. It is completely irrelevant what other options people could use to increase their performance or solve heat or lag problems. The point is that you need to compare two possible scenarios:
a) an EVE Online without this feature vs. b) an EVE Online with this feature and ask a simple question: Would it make EVE Online better? The answer is clearly “yes” because the feature already exists in the game for Upwell stations anyway, so implementing it for NPC stations doesn’t require any noticable development effort and it clearly has benefits, while having no drawbacks. And since it’s optional, anyone who doesn’t want it and still wants to see the interior can simply ignore it. All other discussions about upgrading hardware or lowering graphic settings or this or that are just strawmen, ignoring the simply fact that the suggesion has noticable benefits over the current situation and that is more than enough for considering it for implementation.
Fair enough. However the current implementation of view outside is utterly useless. Which is probably a counterargument to those who don’t want it because it would be too powerful perhaps. I don’t think it would though - if there are enemies waiting for undock and they are in local and not in your station, it is safe to assume that they are still there. And undocking to verify is usually not so big deal. Even in kicker stations, undocking in capsule is an option.
Which makes a good km when the target forgets to swap clone.
