Inactivty Contact Expiration

Can we modify the contacts list to give an expiration? So say I tag someone red because he’s a scout for a ganker corp. If I tag the corp, I only see when the gank toons come in, but the scout gives me advance warning. But there sould be an option to say. make this contact go away if the toon doesn’t log in for say… 3 years. That probably means the guy just left the game.

zKillboard and other external sources to check for signs of activity to decide when to manually scrub the contact list doesn’t really work since scouts often don’t even end up on the killboard.

Or just let us have more contacts. How about 4294967296? That should be enough. Then even if the contacts list is full of inctives you can still add more.

I would very much like to have this if the char goes Doomheim. Inactivity could be another option, although I don’t have a use for that. Inactives can come back at any moment.

Doomheim yes inactivity no. That’s way to much free Intel.

Very good point.

No you need it to be removed for inactivity. Otherwise the contact list gets filled by something like 400 inactive enemy scouts. If someone goes away for 3 years, we should have the option of freeing up that contact (and no, we don’t have a way to find out if it went inactive in game so this can’t be done manually)

Or they could give us a bigger contact list but that’s not happening.

I’m open to either solution since that solves the chief problem, but I am requesting the one the devs might listen to since Change contact limit of 1,024 - EVE Technology and Research Center / Player Features & Ideas - EVE Online Forums the idea of increasing seems to be a dead end and CCP won’t do it.

Right because that’s extremely powerful Intel.

Clean up your own contacts

Gankers have too many scouting alts for this to be viable

@Lugh_Crow-Slave Removing someone from the contact list is the opposite of free intel

I don’t care about the free intel - as limited as it is. And I suspect anyone who wants either more contacts -or- the automatic removal of inactive (3 months) or deleted characters doesn’t care either.

And I’m not entirely sure this actually provides any useful intel intelligence, so I think this whole aspect is moot.

Being able to know when an opposing groups leadership may be Mia. It’s wholly free Intel. Being able to see when someone has stop using a market alt is free Intel. Being able to see when a group hasn’t been using their titan and super pilots or that they have is free Intel.

The shorter you can set the auto delete the more effective it is

its not free intel if you are going through the trouble of using contact list and the potential automatic expiry after 3 months to your advantage. besides the feature would be available to everyone so no-one gains an unfair advantage

You’re right it’s not free Intel if you have to add someone to contacts. What was ccp thinking when they forced the buddy list to require both parties to be able to see if they were online

I don’t care either, but if asking for an optional automatic expiration is the only way to clean up the contacts list, I’m all for it. If I can have 2^32 contacts, I don’t care if I can’t clear the inactive, but we all know that’s not going to happen. CCP refuses to expand the contact list, they should at least give us information so that we can make better use of the limit.

You can always just clear them yourself

I just said, there are no public “inactivity” list. Which you would need to effectively clear them manually. Scouts don’t show up on zKill

Some people actually do live in HS and use the contacts to keep themsef safe(r).

I know you are probably going to try to dump on them, but they subscribe to the game too.

Yeah, you’d need to go off what you and your allies had (or haven’t) seen to be able to make a choice on who to remove.

For over half a decade i ran an alliance who’s goal was to teach players and corps how to survive in hs
