Bragging my blinged corvette to newbies would be funny.
Delaying character creation hurts retention, CCP tested this, so players most likely will be forced to create their character as early as possible.
I’m not sure why would we question if Exortium is going to have GM presence.
Why would we limit which skills can be trained there? Which skills could be problematic and why would they be problematic? And even if some players now and then banded up together and created a newb corp and all left together, that’s a win in my book. I guess I don’t get where you see the issue here.
I can’t see how alt creation would become much more complex. And if it does, we might not care as much, since these players are already invested in the game enough.
I am not sure the markets there will be beneficial…with the higher tax bracket there.
But having Mike Azariah be able to visit with the Magic School Bus and to gift ships to newbros.
And having Kshal Aideron having simplified EVE Rookie fleets location…might be beneficial as well.
It does benefit the Community Outreach groups…with Exordium. (If its non-profit up there and goodwill to new players) I do have my concerns about allowing players to sell products up there, because the tax bracket would mean it would be penalizing the newbros even more than if we just let Exordium be a unique NPC market place/ industrial zone for the newbros to figure out and learn from.
But, I think players should be allowed to visit if not to gift resources and ships to the new players. I do not think allowing outside players to put ships/modules/ammo on the market is a wise idea with a heavier tax penalty. (Because this will hurt newbros alot.)
The resources and materials up in that region should allow (with some time and effort) to build your own T1 ship. (Frigate being the easiest…but up to Cruiser if someone is willing to spend the time up there to do it.)
We want to foster the old pride and wonder of EVE into the new players. Alot of players want to build their own ships, and the amount of pride they have in building it is something you can’t (shouldn’t) really take away. Now the NPC market up there…should be an “ideal” microcosm of EVE.
I.E. you can mine resources (especially the mining homefront which shoudl be up there.) And then sell them to the NPC market order = ISK.
Or you mine resources to gather minerals to build your first newbro ship. (T1 mind you.) This gives the newbro a goal and something to work towards depending on what they are skilling towards. So they have a drive to explore and build up their first ship. They can leave Exordium with this ship of their own volition. Or they can further sell that ship to an NPC market order (Possibly Paragon outpost no?)
Keep the Exordium Market completely clear of player based (especially outside) market buy/sell orders. You can trade/contract ships from the outside. But there needs to be rules so you don’t have scamming of newbros in Exordium.
Giving the players an ideal NPC based ecology allows for easier onboarding and explaining the basic concepts of EVE. So people understand how to manufacture/explore/mining/PVE. PVP could be handled by as one other player noted a variant of abyssal proving grounds. Low Cost/Low Risk…but it bloodies the new players with T1 ships in Exordium. (It only allows T1 ships…especially frigates only.) Also make sure Exordium is not linked to zKill. This will keep people from trying to game the system for kills to “gussy up” their character before recruiting.
IE players who come from Exordium are Tabul Rasa…they need to be clean slate…no exterior ways to influence or corrupt or discourage them. But I understand why alot of people will not like that…because it will be “counter to the spirit of EVE” But its the only way for CCP Exordium experiment to succeed.
They have to severely limit how player interaction works up there.
-
No Player Based Market Orders of Ships/Modules/Ammunition [Period] all Exordium Market orders are based on NPCs.
-
All Contracts/Trades in Exordium can be reviewed by GMs/ISD/ CCP for EULA violations and rules pertaining to scamming new players.
-
All ships/modules/ammo/ISK is to be done as “Gifts” to Newbros while in Exordium.
-
All buy orders for ships/modules/ammo in Exordium shall be handeled by NPC corporations. (Paragon being an option) So we can teach concepts of market without player gamification/exploitation of the new players.
-
Visitation by veteran players and their ships should be encouraged, just make sure player interaction options like “dueling” is disabled in Exordium.
-
Visitation by players with cargo hauling ships should be to gift ships/modules/ammo/ISK to players. Not to abuse the shipcaster system to other side of the map. (Another potential issue because CCP isn’t considering it basically Pochven Express/Zahrzak issue all over again…please open new gates at the same time to open new routes so Exordium becomes redundant)
-
PVP in Exordium will be regulated to its own version of “Abyssal Proving Grounds” like mechanics. And all PVP will be limited to available T1 ships for new players. (To exclude gifted ships…and provide relatively balanced starting PVP gameplay testing.)
-
Also Zkill tracking will be disabled for this region to prevent killboard padding by players before they get recruited out of Exordium.
-
All Hypernet/Contract/Recruitment/Referral Code Spam posting will be disabled in Exordium. They can be private messaged though, but excessive posting or dm spamming such links should be reviewed by GM/ISD/CCP as necessary. We want the local to be clear and open for communications and social interaction. (Other links and postables can be limited at CCP disgression/consideration)
-
Special Events like unique ship fights, will be at the disgression of CCP and its GMs in Exordium. And if they decide to publish the ship loss. This could also include special Exordium variants of “Wack a Bot”
-
All Rules of activities in Exordium, need to be enumerated in plain language for all players to read and review before they enter. Denizens within the region as new players should be able to pull up these same rules by default for ease of reporting any foul play or questionable activities. CCP can amend such rules as they see fit, and give exemptions as well. (IE lets say they teleport Chribbas Veldnaught to Exordium for a special meet and greet event up there.)
That should be pretty straight forward I would think.
Exordium needs to be as “clear” of alot of player manipulation (can’t really prevent influence though) of markets and industry so the newbros can learn the basics of the foundation of EVE industry/hauling/mining/exploratio/PVE content. PVP will be handled like the Abyssal Proving Grounds and be limited to what is available (T1 limitations) in Exordium ecosystem.
Then the newbros if they feel comfortable enough or prepared enough. IE they built their own T1 ship and equipment. Can leave via the stargate…or shipcaster out to one of the Empire starting systems to face the realities of EVE Online. [Semi-Prepared at minimum.]
All of that is very non-straight forward, haha. Did you use AI to write all of it?
I’ll only quetion one of your suggestions, since you generated a lot. So, all items imported by veteran players should be gifts… Can newbies “gift” back ISK for these umm … “gifted” ships? And how many GMs we will need to police this? And why would we need such synthetic, non-emergent, non-sandbox, non-EVE-like arrangement? And what would we gain from this…?
Personally, it would make sense to erase the bloodlines system…and then the Exordium Capsuleer can start from the center and work their way to a particular empire faction.
Character is “created” from the start…like normally. But a player can then chose when faction they want to focus on. Or leave the system as an AIR Capsuleer. (Neutral) because we are all training everything anyways. So why chose a side…when you can in all realities play all sides in game anyways. Choosing a faction should have some benefits for that factions training or bonus addition skills. (That could have some meaningful impact) on a capsuleers start. Where as an AIR capsuleer would be more well rounded.
It is an interesting question to be asked. Because if CCP did the create your character first…you didn’t have to do the bloodlines. But instead you could chose later to freely associate with various NPC corps…if you are an AIR neutral. Or you can while in Exordium choose your faction before you leave. (Amarr/Minmatar/Gallente/Caldari) or even better a “forbidden” transmission offers you a chance to join as a capsuleer as part of the pirate factions and by association the Deathless.
This could open up a bit character development that could feel organic for players. Giving them a choice to select their faction after they have done some time in Exordium. Exordium could be an experiment also letting people try different factions T1 equipment before a choice of a faction is made. There is alot of potential with the concept, if done correctly. I know some of the older players would be a bit upset they can’t create a modernized character from the start now. But then again CCP could unlock free-association with other NPC corps or factions as they see fit.
So I mean it can be wide open on that end pretty easily.
No no, its all in his head, thats his writing style…
CCP can track quite a bit of the interactions.
As I said, the rules for interactions in Exordium need to be visible to all players…and enumerated.
As I said Gifted, IE no benefit to the other side doing the gifting. (Other than the potential of “influence” which we really can’t balance anyways.) It would be a cultural thing, do not expect anything in return. So people asking newbros for isk…even 1 isk…should be frowned upon up there.
If you want a tutorial system to teach the players, EVEs systems are extremely complex. We want people to learn the basics relatively fast. We also want people to be able to understand how the market works from an NPC side of the equation, and having an NPC locked market/industrial base allows players to experience the system without manipulation of player actions, activities. (Both of Beneficence and Malice) If there is a stable environment for someone to figure out how to build up his first frigate or modules. This teaches the player about options to get their ship.
Yes the payouts will be lower in that region, and the taxes higher. But I think if an NPC system is installed. People will understand they can sell things to NPC orders to get ISK. (Without players trying to manipulate the market) Exordium is large enough that you can have players move around to various stations or systems to buy/purchase build certain things. So they learn to look for items. Or the station with certain options like industrial options. this teaches them how to use the map system to identify locations of interest.
Exordium could be a way to revive an older culture of EVE, and thoughts of how to progress. But, you will need to exclude player (external) manipulation from the equation so people will understand the basic mechanics of this game. So when they leave Exordium they realize okay…this is ‘manageable’ but a different beast.
You learn the market with NPC orders…you can figure out okay this is how it works. But if you then go outside of Exordium you see people trying to undercut or overprice things. This emergent concept of competiveness can only happen if you have been taught the baseline mechanics without interference.
Its like how one can be discouraged from buying a vehicle, if the upfront cost is too high or you get scammed out of a car purchase. That can discourage people to think all car sales are setups and they don’t want to buy a car. (Not Ideal)
This is one of the problems we deal with in EVE Online. Exordium gives us a chance to allow the newbros to learn the basics of the mechanics of EVE without player manipulation in play…to an extent. (Again can’t balance player influence out.)
Once they leave this “basic training” area, they should be relatively more prepared, than most newbros up to this point. (In Ideal considerations) That is why Exordium should be more social interaction geared, yes you can gift ships, modules, books, skill injectors, isk, ammo etc. But the training system and way of people learning the basics of the game should be as simple and straight forward to everyone. No matter what faction you end up playing for.
That is the “Ideal” that would probably annoy some of the old guards for sure. But I also think its the way we bring in more new blood to this game.
The onboarding of EVE online has been very rough indeed. I went from the Concord Start…which was brutal barebones but worked practically. To the AIR start…which was very flashy…but kind of a huge let down once you started didn’t really learn anything meaningful from it. Hopefully Exordium allows CCP to flesh out the AIR start, and even start a small storyline arc to add the wonder and excitement potential of EVE to prepare the new players for what they will enter into.
But that is to be seen. But I highly and stringently will argue that if CCP goes ahead with this Exordium idea, they must be very heavy handed and specific with the rules and how things work in Exordium. So the start is “fair and balanced” per se. And that the newbros do not get taken advantage of by people who are intended to scam them out of starting resources. So people can rapidly learn the ropes and get their basic training and then go out into the wider world of EVE Online a bit better trained and equipped than previous generations of EVE Online newbro capsuleers.
Would finally give some reason to roll those special edition corvettes around no?
Funny thing, the Abyssal/Triglavian content was a huge success and player numbers are actually rising since then. Maybe that “USP” was just an illusion and actually only a tiny tiny minority even remotely cares if there are some situations in a game where another player isn’t instantly killable.
All that “booh hooh EVE is the last bastion of hardcore gaming yadda yadda…” is among the most stupid nonsense I hear on these forums. In fact, like 99.9% of all players trying out EVE aren’t doing it because “you can kill one day old newbies in their venture”. Anyone who wants can just leave Exordium on day one and dive deep into the “hardcore hell game” or whatever you guys believe the usual HS environment is…
Last time i checked and ccp stated this as well, players currently can feed the starter markets as is now, why stop it with exordium??
That is actually another interesting question as well, because we have the option to “skip the ‘tutorial’” and we port to whatever traditional starting AIR station for each school…but with the Exordium change…we have an interesting question because CCP has written it as if…all of the starting station/career stuff…is going to move up there.
So, if you were to skip the “Tutorial” does that mean you are in Exordium…or are you punted out at the factional starting locations? (This is not made very clear…and an interesting item I think CCP needs to address how that will work.)
I don’t think they will let someone spawn somewhere else if he wants to “skip” the tutorial. You can “skip” the Aura guidance and then move the handful of jumps out of Exordium if you think you don’t need or want the newbie protection… Probably what most fresh alts will do.
The question that I find most interesting is: Will Yulai become the next major trade hub over time? Because it’s convenient to have all freshly created chars spawing nearby. And will it grow to a size that it can relocate “Jita” as main trade hub back again to Yulai (over years, of course…).
Why would that make sense? Your Bloodline is your character, Bloodline decides your appearance/race.
Not possible, because your appearance/character belongs to a faction.
So why change anything, if we train everything anyway?
This already works as such. Choosing a faction gives you racial bonus additional skills.
Why? You said yourself, that we already train everything anyway. Also, AIR acapsuleer would get more SP then? OR would they be abroken character and have no skills working, because all SP is split? Impossible to do, it seems.
Wrong. Bloodline is your character.
This is an interesting idea, but not related to Exortium. Also, you haven’t provided any ideas on how such system would work. Try creating a new thread.
There is no Deathless race in the game. Also, every player will need a typical faction in the upcoming expansions with empire factions. Again, won’t work and is unrelated to Exordium.
You can not create character without picking appearance which belongs to a faction.
We already train everything, as you said. And trying T1 Frig hulls takes a few minutes of training time…
As far as I see, all of your suggestions have very little possibility. And I can’t see where the potential is or why any of this is useful in any way. Mostly redundant baseless ideas.
Right, but enforcing and looking into all of it would require staff, wages, time…
They are. I just don’t get why you have a need to come up with various extra rules and for what goal.
You can’t tell people what they have to frown upon. That is not up to you. And why do you think that it should be so?
Why? First, markets in eve are not NPC. And why do you want to introduce NPC market and have players interact with a fake synthetic NPC market (which doesn’t exist) and then throw them into a real one? To confuse them … or? Also, what prohibits people form creating alts and mass buying out all the NPC items. You would destroy the sanbox with this suggestion.
Again, you’re just robing players of ability to learn EVE as it is.
Normal market still allows this.
Right. But why do you need this?
They already can do that with normal EVE market. But why do you need NPC market?
All I see is that you want to introduce some synthetic-NPC-non-EVE system here.
Why? You will essentially be lying to players what EVE is. Why confuse people?
Why do you think people can’t learn normal market with competition? I think you’re a tad bit confused.
So you’re saying that all people are just too stupid… Yikes.
But that is EVE. You’re trying to deceive players and rob them of learning oportunities.
I’m not sure if even see anything here to note.
Why do you think this is ideal way?
Well, CCP is specific. One way is that they are not inventing any redundant extra rules. Like if they ignore everything you suggested here, then it is very simple.
It is just another region, where red safety is disabled and veterans are discouraged from griefing/competing in this region. Very simple. And no need to complicate it.
Basically, all of your suggestions are “do x for some unexplained reason”. I’d say most of it makes no sense and brings no value. Most ideas are arbitrary and have no base or explanation, no good reason to exist. So yeah. Maybe if you suggest something, you could first think why that is necessary and is it really worth the development time. Cheers.
True all current starter systems allow player manipulation, of players who do not know any better. Most people just want to get onto the next “milestone” and that is an easy way to (financially in game) set back especially a new player. [This has also been a point of market manipulation and insider gameplay manipulation in the past…when the missile books were changed a cartel took over the skillbooks and made a pretty hefty killing on those books]
But, if you are going to penalize newbros…especially alphas who do not have the lower tax skills. So by default their taxes are even worse…inside that location. Allowing higher skilled players to market sell (with their price reduction skills available) in a system where the new players themselves can not lower costs due to lack of skills. I do not think that is a fair situation for a starting players.
I think using an NPC market system allows people to understand movement of goods, sale and purchase of goods…even with the higher taxes at relatively fixed points. Exordium needs to be this kind of teach the basics of selling and buying things to NPC orders first. Manufacturing basic T1 ships (Frigates…maybe up to Cruiser…nothing higher) with resources available up there.
And selling the ship to an NPC order (Paragon…for ISK/EM) (Faction for ISK/LP) So people learn that system as well. You can teach alot of stuff via Exordium being majority NPC market ecosystem. You could even do systems like automated trade…IE go to the station…and “trade” with an NPC to get a component for manufacturing. Contract to an NPC to get another component. You can use an entire NPC ecosystem in Exordium to teach all the components of the game to players.
Now it is up to the new players to listen to the “advice” of vets visiting Exordium reminding them off what they see here is just the tutorial. And there is scamming, overpricing, underpricing. We can teach via local…the other components, but keep the Exordium ecosystem NPC interaction. This also allows CCP to further fine tune any loss or “escapage” of the system. They can create completely unique resources that can be used only in Exordium in this NPC ecosystem to teach players…and it will not affect the wider EVE market. (other than being a collectible…which would be a net positive for new players…because stuff they find or make or explore in Exordium can be taken outside and sold as collectibles.) But this stuff isn’t going to affect the wider market of EVE. Nor, should the wider market of EVE affect Exordium in any measurable way.
When one is trying to learn how to ride their bike with training wheels, you wouldn’t want some jet salesman harassing you about his luxury jet he wants to sell you? Even when its obvious you can’t fly a plane just yet…much less drive a car.
This is the conundrum of Exordium, if CCP allows players to actively visit and sell market value materials in there, this will be no better than price gouging people who can not bring their costs down. But also CCP has to prevent Exordium from having effects on the wider marketplace because its supposedly as of this moment it is written as no ganking period. (And hopefully they will uphold this…but that will be determined of what effect the region will have on wider EVE.)
no… aside from stuff that is already npc seeded, everything else needs to be seeded by players.
It seems that they just want to destroy the sandbox. Remove every interaction, every learning possibility, etc. Really reminds me of a devouring mother archetype.
True, that is a consideration of merit.
Jita 4-4 became the “hub” due to a variety of reasons including a number of “now removed” mission agents.
I think Yulai being the new hub again…might be beneficial to the game, but I don’t think CCP is going to allow it…unless some catastrophic disaster happens to Jita 4-4.
Yulai being at the center of the game and having full market influence again…could be beneficial or detrimental depending on how one views it. For the nullsec crew…Yulai is pretty dang deep and could potentially create a hiccup in the current easy resupply methodologies. Which might cause some issues with overall rapid resupply. This could have far reaching consequences like Niarja getting snapped up into Pochven…which in some perspectives was intended to cut off the Southern side of nullsec from Jita market via Amarr. Ironically this could be the reason for the new “jockeying” in nullsec across Drones and Geminate for positioning closer to Jita 4-4 Market Resupply. (Unintended Consequences)
For Highsec/Lowsec/FW, Yulai becoming a major hub would reinforce Dodixie to an extent, but also cut the distance between Amarr via Abahazon/lowsec connections. Jita would be “isolated” per se, actually being quite distance from Yulai. Minmatar Space would have a slight buff. But that would also mean trade from Dodixie/Rens/Amarr route…would probably dry up faster. And probably dead end at Rens. Since the lowsec connections would be faster.
The impacts upon lowsec/FW player bases would be interesting to game out. Because if it works out the way we are thinking. Yulai could end up creating a rather unpleasant drag on Caldari FW while Gallente/Minmatar/Amarr FW might be further reinforced.
That is also another question…could Exordium actually have a shipcaster option to the FW HQs?
This game has been around for 23 years. Controversial expansions always happens. We just adapt and survive
Exortium has shipcasters that lead to FW HQ. Did you read anything posted on this thread?
