It takes alot longer because your standing at the start is pre-adjusted. When you start you generally have your faction starting skills a certain way.
With what I am suggesting…is the character is much more fluid. And the player is able to chose how they want to start.
IE…looking Amarrian. (Chosing by skillbooks to fly caldari…because you don’t have any preset skills like the Empire Capsuleer pilots) and you have worked up your standing via SOCT or T1 missions to Minmatar content.
An AIR capsuleer could be blank/flat standings. Where as an empire capsuleer would have their standings shifted to their choice (IE consequence)
Yes you can do this in EVE…but you are having to “suppress” your faction standings.
What I am suggesting is a player can start or chose from the start a unique way to play their character…and gain a bit more freedom through Exordium. But that is up to the devs. Since this could radically allow CCP to change the start system as well.
I mean if you went AIR you get more bonus SP + ISK…but you have to buy and apply your own skillbooks as you see fit.
This region will probably have massive effects on Gallente space and the Genesis region in particular
I could easily imagine Yulai and Ourapheh assuming the role that Dodixie and Botane respectively have now, or the systems of Beke, Onne, and especially Assez replacing Tama and Ami
Some EVE players really enjoy and take pride in making their own ship…even if its costly to them in time and resources.
I wish more people could experience that moment of “New Ship Smell” of building your own ship. Its usually highly discourage by the playerbase generally.
Success, Pride, and Loss hit differently when you build it yourself, very different from a buying (or renting) player to be fair.
So a more complex system? Why? Why would you want that for new players? CCP is trying to minimise complexity, that’s why CCP removed Ancestry choice from character creation. The goal is to improve player retention by making everything simpler.
You can already do all of this. You know you can inject skills and that it costs virtually nothing, because starter skills are so basic.
This breaks lore. Makes things more complex. For what benefit?
This is another reason why your suggestion fails, standings system is not designed to accomodate this. You’d need to do a lot of work to accomodate such idea. And for what benefit? What’s the payoff here?
I think your attempting to convey that most eve players dont actually play the way they do from some imaginary concept you have floating around inside your own skull; this belief of yours is completely untrue - you should not fund beliefs on the imagination alone.
What is true about most eve players is that being humans they are subject greed.. and the love of wanton destruction; neither of which will be fed from low isk activities in highsec now, let alone if the rewards were decreased.
Newbros do not want the same thing as you.. nor does anyone brag about making shuttles.. no one cares about your shuttles…
It will probably happen anyways. The trick for them is to allow players to create the character first…then create the backstory. Potentially one interesting option would be to open up a huge number of NPC corps as options to work for. Which would break down specific loyalties.
I understand why people dislike it, due to the history involved.
But, going forward its probably going to happen.
It will also differentiate old guard players versus newer ones.
We will see what CCP does…but they are laying suspiciously obvious infrastructure for a major change up.
But true, it would get some pushback. But considering how CCP has been building up the Evermore lore…I can see a loophole to that line of thinking. Since the new cloning initiative is probably a mixture system for sure.
But the groundwork is there…and it gives them a bit of wiggle room either way.
Well, there are some wins by having all starter systems in one area. Imagine two friends playing the game, but one picks Amarr other one goes with Caldari. Another big deal, I feel, is just a PR move. We used to get a ship and were told to “**** off”, then we got a tutorial, now “EVE has a starter zone with no PvP”. Makes the game a bit more attractive, since many outsiders think that EVE is some sort of maschohism-spreadsheet-elite-PVP simulator.
That is what I would hope…but that also could be determined by the skills people are studying. Unless CCP puts a timer or like Frontier a one way gate…people probably are going to stay up there. It also can be considered a “Streamer Safe” zone as well. Not much content but a perfect way to have “first time streamers” roll around.
It will probably be utilized by groups like EVE University and various rookie training groups or community streamers to show newbros the ropes. We will see how it goes.
The concept is well interesting…I just wonder if it will survive “General Murphy”…IE the EVE playerbase.
