Introducing Exordium!

I don’t see the harm in new players remaining in Exordium until they learn the mechanics of the game. Boring or not, at least they’ll have something to fall back on.

They may even pick up things quicker and move out to high-sec or low-sec sooner than later.

It’s still waaaaay to early to be writing Exordium off.

Luckily staying in Exordium is optional and the obvious answer to “I am in Exordium and am bored” is to tell them to try the game outside tutorial island.

The natural reaction from a newbie to a boring game is to quit and uninstall, not to stick with it in case it gets better later. You need to front-load your fun, which EVE very much does not, and Exordium does nothing to change. Before Exordium you had no choice but to leave the newbie system because it was just one system. In Exordium they’re encouraging them to stick around and enjoy such exciting activities as level 1 missions and mining.

There are multiple ways a new player can see EVE as a ‘boring game’.

One is that they log in and decide that the content in this game is not what they expected and isn’t fun or engaging for them and they get bored and quit. These players will indeed not stick with it in case it gets better later, and I would not expect them to do so either; EVE simply does not seem to be a good match for them and it’s nice that they noticed it so early without spending too much time on a game they don’t like.

I was talking about a different kind of newbie boredom though.

The kind of player who plays EVE for the first time and likes the gameplay and wants more of it. The kind of player who completes everything Exordium has to offer but is too scared to venture further into the ‘dangerous’ universe, but also gets bored by the limited amount of content in Exordium.

My previous comment was meant for these bored players, as these are the kind of players who would as you say it “stay in Exordium until they’ve mastered the game mechanics” and inevitably get bored by the lack of content in tutorial island.

For these players the answer is to try the game outside Exordium.

And for many of us that are looking forward to this new zone on a recruiting perpective, it will be up to us to teach those players that a much larger game is out there.

It really is amazing that so many people in this community are armchair psychologists, psychiatrists, mediums, and even psychic detectives. The think they have a huge knack of being able to know how other people play a game, what decisions they make, and what goes through their minds when playing. ( no Gerard, not you, but so many others )

In my defence I’ve spoken to enough shrinks that I feel I’m basically qualified to be one myself.

Btw, those initial kills in Exordium space were (I believe) Faction Warfare (not awoxing) - supposedly exploiting a bug (apparently the “glitch” will be fixed in a forthcoming update).

I never understand why people capitalise AWOX the chap’s name was Awox https://evewho.com/character/790738490

Fixed it for you. I guess there’s no MWD activation near the Manifest station, either (just afterburners). And the group that deployed a POCO to every planet is going to see those removed as well.

I agree with this sentiment.

  1. You repeat missions with low payout
  2. Mining is just either hyper optimized or afk
  3. Maybe you get lucky with hack/relic sites
  4. Abyssal runs are fun
  5. FW, and die and lose your ■■■■ early
  6. Null corps
  7. WH corps
  8. Not sure about incursions for a newbro
  9. Trig space is a similar issue to all other 0 sec space

There is alot of factors against new players and alpha in general. Eve isn’t a theme park mmo like WOW and doesn’t have the same retention tools. It isnt also a full roleplay mmo the like of Star Wars Galaxies. I think eve lacks effective tools and mechanics to stay engaged or make your actions feel rewarding.

The simplest solution is to just Fly with new players.

Get them involved.

Want dungeon like content? Abyssal runs.

Struggling with some missions? Fleet Up and run.

Social experience while mining.

Really one truth is to just get involved and fly with a new player. It’s why things like the magic school bus works.

CCP really ought to add a constellation chat.

I know there is the newbie chat.

In this case an Exordium chat

Well yes, but since they allowed to sell SPs by players and to buy omega with PLEX that you can buy with credit card and then sell for ISKs ingame. They were indirectly selling those SPs from the beginning…

Oh I love that name!

I am definitely not a white knight of CCP/FC and I never defended them, but your assumption that CCP is lying decades about effects of a ganking on new players and that they are now implementing Excrementium to address the newbro ganking problem seems to me a bit far stretched.

You, antigankers and gankhaters have your own propaganda and you are prime example of that. Anything that happens just somehow falls into your narrative no matter what. And if not then it is a lie.

But okay, lets say that it is a lie from the beginning. That ganking heavily impacted new player retention and that new players were qutting due to that.

Do you have any proof of that? Where do you see those newbro <30 days old kills on zkill by gankers? New players, legit new players, will have nothing worth to gank. And nobody is purposedly gŕiefing and suicide ganking new players just for fun. The only possible exception might be a random AP pod kill by one of three players who sometimes do that. And if that happens, do you really think that the player lose anything? Typical new player has 800k implants x3 at best. Perhaps sometimes +3 implants, that is still no loss.

By a definition a new players are only those 30 days old. With this definition I am absolutely sure that CCP is right and ganking is not affecting these players retention.

Does it affect older players though? Oh absolutely. Don’t think that there would be anyone denying that. There are two types of players, quitters and survivors. But that is how it was, how it is, and how it will be. Because ganking is what makes the game. Eve ECHOES is proof of that. Without ganking the game dies. But ganking causes lot of players to quit. There is nothing that CCP can do about it and the Excrementium won’t change that. On the opposite we all who were against the new region simply think that it might have even the opposite effect once she babysat newbros leave the carebear zone and taste the real EVE afterwards.

The Exordium is being abused for hauling massively from day 1. Where are those ship types limitations that CCP promised?

How can this be in a no pvp zone?

daft question, will there be ice fields in the region?

My understanding is that ship limitations mainly (or will) apply to missions, mining (etc). I don’t think there are gate restrictions on the type of ship. It’s also possible that players are transporting items for sale in Manifest.

on the mining sites, yes there are managed ore fields which have very tight restrictions (corvettes and ventures only, and no boosting ships), gives the ubernoobs a chance to mine up for missions without having to deal with the plague of orca fleets some seem to have spotted…
