But the policy to spread some infos there and not immediately correct the main news on the website is crap.
CCP needs to understand that all those ‘media platforms’ like instagram, facebook, youtube, snapchat and now discord are all inadequate tools. They can always relay messages there for improved range, but the main communication source should always be the own website/forums.
you’re not wrong, but when someone asks questions they just pop in and start answering.. instead of saying “wait, let me make another dev blog” and go through all the questions popping up every 5 seconds.
Below is only my pure opinion but from what I understand from all those information provided already.
What worries me is that this may not actually help new players. It may just make them too soft for what EVE really is.
Because the real question is not: “will a new player survive the first week?” The real question is: “will a new player understand what kind of game they are actually playing?”
If someone spends a day there, or a week, or even a month, and gets used to that sterile environment, they may start to believe that this is what EVE is:
no theft
no suspect baiting
no dirty tricks
no social manipulation,
no real pressure,
no consequences coming from other players.
Then the moment they leave that space and enter normal New Eden, they may not experience it as “the next step”. They may experience it as hitting a wall.
And that is the core problem: in my opinion: nobody truly understands the nature of EVE until they actually see it and feel it.
You can write warnings. You can put up popups saying “you are leaving protected space”. You can explain that things work differently outside. But none of that is the same as the first real lesson:
someone scams you
someone shoots you
someone steals from you
someone manipulates you
someone punishes your carelessness.
EVE is one of those games that cannot be taught fully in theory. Part of it has to be lived. So to me, Exordium may make the entry easier, but it may also delay the player’s collision with the truth of the game. And a delayed collision can be worse than an earlier one, because by then the player may already have built a false model of the world.
In short: A safe start does not teach EVE. It only teaches a safe start. EVE begins when the world stops being polite.
They’ll start off with this area, and eventually expand. On the outside will be us. Forgotten, alone, despised. Inside they won’t know we exist as they float around in their expanding Elysium. Eventually it will consume all, leaving us banished to null sec pockets at the edge of the map, until the day that the Ruperts outnumber us and all wallet up, and then they will delete us.
The true reason why scamming is allowed is not to have (better) game experience or be different as a game. It’s business. That’s CCP’s way to save on the size of the moderation team. Banning scams would require a significant increase in the number of employees working as moderators, and that is not going to happen easily. A change like that requires that a C level executive who is advocating for that model either changes his/her mind (borderline impossible) or leaves the company.
On AT ships in Exordium
Yeah hanging around outside the main station in Manifest with AT ships to show off is something we know will be an attractive option for folks, and that’s totally fine Lets the newbros see some cool sights
Getting your ship there involves some danger though, I don’t think I’d risk it personally with either of mine
on the False Sense of security
We’re improving the UI to more clearly show the differences between different security levels, so it should be easier to understand the risk gradient (not just the rules for starter space, but new UI to teach highsec/lowsec/nullsec/WHs/pochven as well)
new info on the shipcaster and the plans for shortcut hauling @Meridan_Night
There will be ship type restrictions, but even more significantly the shipcasters will be one-time use per character (we should have mentioned that explicitly in the blog in hindsight)
Yeah if that ends up becoming a thing (people recycling alphas with T1 haulers to bring goods through here) then we’ll need to add some more restrictions and/or rules, but we’ll cross that bridge if it comes up
I didn’t believe it was the case? I don’t know who told you that and why you believed it. I explicitly labelled it speculation for that very reason. I’ll ask you not to reply to me in the future if you’re just going to humiliate yourself with what you think are snide remarks.
I said it was speculation, because I was just as negative to the idea of an isolated newbie region then as I am now (actually more now that I know about this asinine shipcaster idea). EVE is EVE, it’s a (the last standing?) full-loot-drop always-on PvP MMO. Carebears and assorted undesirables have been begging for perfect safety for decades, and this is their foot in the door. “Exodium is nice but newbies are getting ganked when they leave!!!11”, and then suddenly we can’t set safety to not-green outside Exodium either. We’ll end up with the same dire mess of a game that is Echoes or Serenity, both of which are nigh unplayable because of the mess caused by catering to carebears. And that’s only assuming Exodium itself isn’t just implemented poorly. I don’t have high hopes.
Please message Fozzie and tell him to just ■■■■■■■ post in this thread himself. Relaying his comments from the ■■■■■■■ discord is a ridiculous way to community manage and beyond unprofessional.
@DeMichael_Crimson
per fozzie
The existing starter and career agent systems are remaining unchanged for now, partly to make sure that players who started before the expansion don’t get forced to move to a new area to continue
We’re not making any commitments to keep them there forever, but we don’t have any plans to remove them for now
The career agents in Exordium work like the ones in other areas (each character can only run each of them once). There’s a variety of new player accessible content in Exordium but it’s all lower value than the equivalent activities in highsec so the main reason to come back would be if you left before finishing the career agents and want to come back the next day or so to finish them, or to come back and pick up your stuff you left behind
Yeah the new career agents give out standings at parity with the old ones
Better this sooner than later, the restrictions on Alpha accounts going red safety should have been a day zero release feature and entirely predicable that they would be abused by the expected set of miscreants.
Fozzie on new players leaving Exordium
They can leave whenever they want, and they can also come back whenever they want so they don’t need to stress about having all their stuff or completing all the content before leaving for the first time
In general we want to remove any barriers that might make people feel they need to avoid or delay leaving
me* so a day one newb can choose to skip exordium and go straight into hell (new eden)
