Again, sorry, I replied to you by mistake…
Every once in a while I have to give an Econ 101 class on this forum. It’s a rather simple concept. The more you have of something, the less it is worth. So, if you have thousands of players out and about in high sec sucking down millions of m3 of ore and ice daily with zero fear of being ganked, they are going to flood the market with said ores and ice, tanking their value overnight.
Manufacturers are going to change their prices on Orcas from 2 billion to 20 billion overnight because it’s the only one they are ever going to sell to you because you can’t be ganked. For the same reason, a Marauder will now cost you 20 billion ISK as well.
If FC had the talent and know how, no PvP would not result in those things because the NPC’s would be buffed and spread everywhere like in any other pve only mmos. There would be hazardous nebulas and other obstacles to navigate in different systems instead of just “undock, jump, jump, jump, dock”. Triglavians, Sleepers, Drifters and more would be an issue even in high sec. Mining would require an active defense. See, people aren’t against being blown up or having to fight to get what they want. People are against having to fight against other people to do it. NPC’s can be every bit as annoying as players, every bit as dangerous, but they have scripts and patterns and best of all, don’t harass you with wardecs, bumping, ganks “for the lulz”, etc. Looked around lately? People hate dealing with other people. It’s why mmorpgs have all adapted to become singleplayer games where the mmo part is you can interact “when you want” and never have to deal with another player otherwise. Problem is, FC has from the beginning relied on the lowest form of cheap and easy game development: the players are the content so we don’t need to make none. ECHOES is the way it is because that’s how all asian games are, gotcha games and pay-to-grind. Show me even one asian game without a stupidly broken economy, you can’t. In the hands of someone who cared and didn’t rely on gambling addiction as their base model for all their games, ECHOES could have been a roaring success.
So, you think players would be fine with being nuked on a daily basis by NPCs, but not by other players?
They would then whine to FC about getting shanked by NPCs and they would be neutered. Just like players complained about diamond NPCs in belts in high sec and Triglavian patrols in high sec…
And then, when enough players have complained about still getting killed by NPCs in high sec, FC will dumb it down even more to appease the players, and you’re back to square one…
Yes, if EVE was different, it would not be EVE. I would rather not have a space wow clone. If I wanted to play those other games, I would go play those games.
I’ve been playing EVE for over 20 years. Seen and done it all. Been through every update, every whine, every revolt (eg Blackout). Not to sound presumptuous, but I know EXACTLY what EVE players are going to do, for the most part. Because I have seen it happen over the course of 20 years…
Well, maybe you don’t program the NPC’s as one-shot AI gankers. That’s the issue FC has, all their npc’s have to either be pushovers or one-shot gank machines. That’s why I said, FC has neither the talent nor the know how, so the point is moot overall.
They aren’t one-shot. I used to tank and kill Triglavian Emerging Conduits in a Skiff. Players whined about it because they couldn’t AFK in peace. They actually had to be paying attention and do something.
FC also has the inability to decipher which whines are temporary ( and will fade as the situation is adapted to ) and which ones are actual problems.
None of them are problems, as long as you are paying attention and not comatose AFK…
And I agree, which is why I would have ignored those particular whines. If they were one shot gank AI’s or badly scripted so they can do things a player can’t do ( like in cheap indy games where all the mobs run like spastic, methed up roadrunners so they can kill you while you can’t even get a shot off ). Good npc AI that just requires adapting to and fighting back is not a problem and a whine that should be ignore. Badly programmed, glitchy npc AI would be a legitimate whine and not ignored. But Hilmar would not fix the badly progrmmed, glitchy npc AI because “it was his glorious idea and cannot be wrong”, while he will “fix” the good npc AI because it’s good, and therefore obviously had nothing to do with him and thus that’s why people are whining and he must act.
Just to point out, whenever I say CCP/FC, I mean Hilmar, because none of the devs get to do anything without his oversight and demands. And since he thinks he’s God’s gift to gaming and coders, the quality of the game will always suffer regard;ess of what is done.
/mini rant off
Id love for NPCs to shank me. The challenge would be great.
Also be nice if we had more scannable pockets of ore anomalies and various anomalies.
the fishing anomaly was fun
Well, that used to be the case, until players in high sec whined to the high heavens and they were removed…
This is over and over again. The thread derailed into classic antigank propaganda as always.
And this argument was brought so many times in past. That somehow losing to player is a problem but everyone would welcome losing to NPCs because that is fun.
But then CCP removed all NPCs that could do that from highsec… I guess they don’t understand the game, they should have removed player interactions not NPC right?
But I do not disagree with the statement. There definitely are players like the guy are are replying to, who can’t handle losing to another player. They have one screw loose in my opinion though…
Thats a crying shame.
I really think there should be NPC and neutral npcs fleets out that attack capsuleers. High sec danger should be heavily NPC with some PVP here and there.
High security is essentially mostly where Concord and the empires exert their security
Im dodging all the repeated banter…but…
Im stealing this. ![]()

It’s actually a different “c” word, but we’ll go with your version…
Funny how it’s always ‘High Sec’ that has to be the Guinea pig for new NPC terror content… Even though Null Sec is the richest area in Eve with unlimited resources and complex Fleet doctrines to efficiently deal with it, they rarely ever get the NPC gauntlet thrown at them… And the one time it did happen during Black Out with the roaming Drifter gangs attacking them, all of the Null Sec Alliance leaders cried about it and within weeks CCP removed that content…
