Introducing the HyperNet Relay

I find this fascinating from a legal standpoint. Truth be told, I think you’re right. No one who will actually be gambling (i.e., exchanging something of real value for a chance to win) is paying real money to do so. The interesting wrinkle in EvE’s case being that in-game currency can be purchased (in a roundabout manner) with real money. I’m not sure how that affects the analysis, but it does seem to me that they probably did their homework here and structured this in such a way that it doesn’t directly implicate any anti-gambling statutes or regulations.

HyperCores = Ticket - you click it and “confirm” which buys the cores.

Thanks, but no. CSM is no place for a salty maximalist with rather development intensive ideas about what the game needs.

EVE has tons and tons of issues and people are leaving because of these issues. CCP always keeps claiming how precious and scarce their developer hours are. And what does they waste these developer hours on? Exactly: CCP stuff, ie. dumb stuff that’s even too stupid for April 1st. :joy:

You’re an unbelievabel dumbfuck to think this shite is good for the game. But we already knew that of course.

Stop using words you don’t know, it looks cringy.

No it doesn’t. It sounds like a greedy cash grab by CCP, exploiting gambling addicts for easy money. If the goal is to make it easier to liquidate expensive items then there would be no need to have the cash shop purchase to start the lottery. CCP could, at any time, implement a free game-wide market but instead they gave us loot boxes by another name.

“technically this is ok” doesn’t change the fact that it’s terrible, with terrible intent and not something CCP should have focused on.

Sure, that is a valid point.

I’m not going to argue against this, since I’m basically against this implementation myself. Not that I’m against gambling. I’m against CCP spending time and resources on a feature that is rather controversial, while there are existing systems in dire need of reiterations and rebalance.

Same “backlash” happened with RNG mutaplasmids, today nobody cares. 3 weeks from now sub numbers are unchanged and CCP has a new revenue stream :man_shrugging:

If you don’t agree with how the boat’s being captained just cut ties and do something else with your life, like so many devs have done lately. Whoever’s running this doesn’t care about a forum thread.

They weren’t banned or regulated because they were lotteries - those countries chose to define what was happening to fit them under their gambling law. which is understandable, because you were actually buying chances to win prizes with real money. Again, that’s not how this appears to be structured.

Makes too much sense right?

I heard a story when I was a kid. It was about a company that made more money by improving the quality of its products and services instead of trying to figure out ways to manipulate customers and markets.

Weird story. Kind of creepy. Good to know something like that could never happen in real life.

Also, I hope you ■■■■■■■ assholes get prosecuted for running an online gambling racket.

Honestly I just want to know how many dev hours were wasted on this project when there are more critical issues at hand.
