Is EVE actually dying?

Oculus, Whatsapp, and Instagram.

CCP had massive layoffs and their CEO left. I don’t think they are like WhatsApp or Instagram. Oculus would be dead by now without the endless coffers above them. Only people buying that ■■■■ are bugmen. I think it’s more like how Sears bought Kmart. :fire: :money_with_wings:

No, Hilmar is still CEO - since 2004.

Because they shut down the Studios in Atlanta and Newcastle - both weren’t Eve related. 100 employees gone, 250 left.

I would be curious to see an economic prediction of what would happen if CCP called your (collective) bluff.

I’ve always been in favor of cancelling lapsed accounts - say, give everyone 1 year and 1 day from last log-on, after which all assets get recycled to “central revenue”. I appreciate the prodigal’s return is a massive marketing tool, to reclaim (if not retain) players. And suggesting getting rid of it may be a shibboleth too far … but, it is still seductive. You leave but we all collectively get your assets back into circulation? Just curious as to if / how that might work.

not dying, but it has become boring … PVE oriented

Who’s the gender neutral person they had

I take a wild guess that you are referring to:

https://www.pcgamer.com/eve-online-executive-producer-andie-ccp-seagull-nordgren-is-leaving-ccp-games/

Executive producer, chief executive, my bad. Not interested in the semantics.

If I was the new owner, PA, I would start introducing some creative aspects to the game like station and skin design… I would also try to incorporate first person piloting with a flight/joy stick…and open up character game play in in space stations and planets… Huge endeavor, but needs to take aspects of Elite Dangerous and Star Citizen to stay alive over the long run…

My Son immediately lost interest when he found out he couldn’t just fly around.

WiS was a disaster, only tried because they hired a dev from “The Sims”.

You can just fly around, for free as an alpha too!

He has an alpha but he was wanting direct control of the ship, not double clicking in space

Wrong game. Eve is to space games what Football Manager is to football games. If you expect PES of FIFA experience with FM, you are going to be disappointed.

1st person view, then map a flight stick to the arrow keys

I enjoy playing quite a bit. My comment about my son was based on a players comment higher up.

You can actually do that as well m8
Alt - 3 gives you a first person view and you fly with asdw or arrows, cant remember which

Just so you know, they also fired all the EVE Community team but its two seniors CCP Falcon and CCP Guard. There aren’t many ways to spin positively the financials of a company who lays off the community team in charge of their highly social cash cow.

Also might be noted that, despite all the financial trouble and messy decissions taken over years, there is no evidence of a single executive ever being fired for poor performance. And that includes Mr. Psssshhhttt!, who essentially wasted 21 million $ spent in the development of World of Darkness.

By “All” you mean three people, some of whom had been brought over from Dust 514, rather than the community team always being five people. Don’t get me wrong, I was sad to see them go, but lets not try and make a studio of well over a hundred people firing three into some kind of end of the world prophecy.

As for poor performance… Why would they, the company has been turning reliable profit most years. And on the whole is well in the black. The fact that they tried some ventures that didn’t turn out to be huge successes does not indicate poor performance. It indicates a gamble that didn’t pan out. Not all business is going to be a success no matter how well managed. (Per posts at the end of Dust 514 there were indications it actually had broken even on it’s cost, it just wasn’t a product that was going to keep going strong for years to come, and yes, I know there was talk about poor management with WoD, but well…)

2008 / 20012 was more stable then now - also ccp recently SOLD. i’m pretty sure it wasn’t because they were doing well or stable, maybe if i close my eyes and say that’s not true hard enough i may believe it.

but that’s the truth they sold for a reason = money = if they were making good profit they would’nt have sold.

free game time is there now - free omega time is there now - hhhmm

how long can it hold on when no one is paying anymore ?
2008 / 2012 there was no free time meaning you had to put time in the game or pay to play - even then time was needed to get good and ccp did talk about selling.

tick tok tick tok - unless ppl or some one can point out reasons why this game will make a come back ?

i wouldnt work for free !

You know EVE is dying when the only time the devs participate in these forums is to lock any “EVE is dying threads”. It’s about the most they can be expected to actually interact with players outside of r/EVE.

“Community” team? That’s almost as much of a joke as Team “Security”.

There’s no indication CCP has been in the black since they haven’t published any financials for years. But the fact that they continually needed to seek outside investment, couldn’t attract or retain any talent and have been slashing staff and costs for years to appear attractive to a potential buyer speaks volumes.

The only thing motivating CCP is keeping the lights on long enough to milk the last remnants of EVE to ensure they get the second half of their $450-million payoff.

Considering that Winter is actually when player numbers typically peak, look for a steady decline into the abyss from here on out.
