Thanks to posts like this, EVE has been dying since 2003.
This is what it means that CCP Hellmar spreads these horizontal 8 logos. EVE is (eternally) dying.
Tbh i think eve is not dying because it has fantastic community, but ccp try to reduce its population.
I played in golden age and it was normal to have 60k people online. What is evil for eve is rebalance who never ends. people just don`t like thair game is changeing in rules - they feel like you go to casino, play rulete and after spending tones of money you hit 18 number who is winning number, but the owner of the casiono tolds you - no no this number now is not 18 but it is 20. I think all the changes ccp made to “improve” this game was mistake. People wanted cavalery ravens, epic vagabonds, dominixys who was so powerfull because of nosferatu they could kill camps alone. It was fun. Do people even remember how epic cynabal was? 20k people online is efect of ccp realy hard work, if they stay away from thair own game we should have 70k online now.
and thats is why wow classic will be huge and epic win
blizzard know thair mistakes. ccp dont know
EVE is not dying.
In fact, EVE is getting ready to enter it’s Renaissance.
There will be growing pains. Some salty krabs will unsub - which will ultimately improve the health of the game. Back in 2012-2014 EVE Online began appealing to a younger, softer crowd. You can notice the trend in the expansion trailers. The trailers used to be cryptic and dark, with a focus on ships doing things and vague references to the lore. But around the time DUST 514/Inferno came out, the emphasis shifted to characters interacting, and flashy combat cutscenes to appeal to the “next generation” of gamers. This “next generation” of gamers are soft, do not understand or appreciate hard work, planning, and patience, and want instant gratification. They all want to fly Rorquals and Titans, the “end game” content of EVE Online, and have fat wallets for minimal effort.
EVE Online became a softer place - Crimewatch was a good idea, but changes to “friendly fire”, WarDecs, and other safety buttons drastically reduced the trust needed and the (false) sense of safety players felt.
Now that CCP Hilmar is firmly grasping the wheel, expect a lot of safety mechanics to be rolled back or reduced. Expect less instant gratification, and for New Eden to once again become a darker place. The “next generation” of gamers will leave, probably to go play Candy Crush for those quick instant gratification dopamine hits, and the long-term health and ecology of the game will be much improved for it. Expect shakeups in NullSec, J-Space, and HiSec that will leave veterans off-balance and reeling with vertigo. Expect LowSec coalitions to form and “hold” areas of unsecure, unclaimable space.
Expect the PCU to drop and for there to be tears and calls of doom, but, eventually, a long-term return to slow and steady growth, rather than the boom-and-bust cycles we saw when CCP was trying to appeal to weak-kneed millennials and Gen Zers.
sure belive in that i give you my heart.
Dunno, but everyone and his dog has like 10 accounts.
Back in the days the normality was having… 2 toons. Many guys didnt even have any alt at all… just a main character and thats all. Call me crazy but thats how the game was supposed to be. Now we have 3000 unique users running 8 accounts each. But thats not 24,000 people, thats 3,000.
Name another game in where you need to control 10 personalities or characters… LMAO.
No one NEEDS them, but its sure fun to have them.
False. 65% of players have 1 account. Over 80% have 2 or 1.
Yeah, nice posting of a clearly false graph.
Been playing off and on (mostly off) since 2006. Ran a small non-renter Alliance in null for quite some time, and had a long list of contacts because of it.
Being an alliance leader is the quickest way to get a player to take multiple breaks due to politics and living in stations trying to keep things going. I’ve been back several times, and as such have only accumulated about 100m sp on each of my 4 mains.
The scary thing, is that the last time I came back (about a week ago), all but one my past contacts have seem to be inactive. I’ve been back in the game a week, and just one of my contacts seem to have active accounts.
In a way, this is good as there would be a lot of new interest in the game and players don’t have to smash their heads against the 200+ mil sp players that I knew back in the day. But it does seem to show that things have in fact change. When I last came back a couple years ago, my contact list was still fairly busy.
I do know from contacting some of those people (out of game) that the new changes have taken some of them away from the game. So perhaps they will come back after this event is done.
Summer player count dip.
I thought it was winter in Australia…
I was shocked to find how active the community of my first computer still is.Amstrad CPC 6128 which my father bought back in 1988, a whopping 128 kbs of ram , thumbnail screen resolution, 16 colors and mind blowing 4mhz CPU. Not only without changing the specs , it now has a full blown GUI multi task OS , games that are released are mind blowing and far superior to the games released by the company ages ago. And if you like me no longer own the hardware , there’re ton of free emulators.
What’s crazy is that it was not even remotely the most popular computer of its time.
You cannot kill something that never lives.
People vastly overestimate how resilient even crappy old software can be.
As much I am critical of EVE it’s software and thus by definition , sadly unlike us, truly immortal. As much we may complain it won’t be dying any time soon this millennium.
I have no love for Alan M Sugar’s appropriation of Sinclair Radionics, but that was a popular machine in its day due to its low cost and included monitor.
I was lucky in that my dad got us a C64 cheap somewhere, but I have to say the CPC versions of Oh Mummy and Manic Miner were superb.
Don’t be a dick
Which are you, Gadget?
See all that white space? That’s GadgetCorp.

The weekends have players online at about 25,000 players. The playerbase used to be 30,000 and higher in 2014. 2019 saw a lot of game mechanics changes. In 2006 CCP laid off 60 employees and killed the community relations team. I miss the community related events.
Glad to see nothing’s changed in 6 years
Here you go, we are hovering around early 2007 numbers:
