Mass-market appeal kills IPs. It does not save them.
The “wider audience” is a myth. Games are healthier when they cater heavily to a niche audience that will remain loyal, rather than catering very lightly to a wide audience that will move on to the next new thing.

I’ve made a bunch of friends in this community. People that as a group, we don’t just play EVE together, but other games and socialise out of game.

I can’t remember ever having an experience in the community other than positive ones personally; and I genuinely think that as a group, we are all just out to have fun ourselves; and in this game, there are multiple ways to have fun, many of which are in direct competition to each other.

So I don’t think Schadenfreude is the right way to express it. We all just find fun in different ways, but I’ve never seen someone that has been genuinely out to harm someone else - the Erotica1 stupidity was the closest to that in my view and the glee that one forum member at the time showed at the potential of direct physical harm to the player behind Erotica1.

Very true. I also feel EVE is one the last games that can evoke an actual emotive response because the stakes can actually mean something.

I mean OP is case in point. He’s spreading more salt over the forums than that dude from Home Alone.

That could only have come from a truly good or bad experience in game :smiley:
