I think that is true, there was more unknown and availability in the early years because a lot of the options now are tailored to CCPs preferences for gameplay as natural gaming progressions were end gamed to death. The reality was that if CCP left a lot of them alone they were not profitable for CCP, or created a stagnant metas that everyone and their dog skilled into. It was in CCPs monetary sense to get people to continue cross training into new, emergent or CCP created emergent metas. Be those actual brand new ship lines created by CCP or just new metas they wanted to create as additional skill sinks.
I think a lot of it is now, for us older folks, a very obvious CCP ( Or the parent companies) desires to improve real money flows and ROI and therefore an obvious narrowing of apparent freedoms. Which Ill give CCP credit they have done a decent job of creation within a kind of stagnant world system, but do I miss the illusory freedoms of the past? Of course I do, but I also believe them the naive, young noobish freedoms that were also orchestrated by CCP. The emerging metas and emergent behaviours in game are definitely less available than before, so I agree with your lamentations of yesteryears.
I myself had never seen an Eve advert at all until they started a decade later on Facebook so… I did what my friends did and then spread out in my Eve realities and pathways.
But I DO wonder what you think is responsible for all those “ebil” miners? You stated YOU had started as a miner so what was your reason for the “bzzt bzzt” mining lazor glory?
I was agreeing with your post and thinking why you were such a jerk on my post, but I was confusing you with the guy above.
I think you got the point, but I don’t like when the company decides to do shady stuff to pursue the economical viability. Their past decisions made no veteran poorer but noobs more miserable, while this may milk the whale in the short term it leads to a precipice.
All your points are correct in my PoV, I just want to add not only the freedom you guys are discussing, maybe because you all too high in the hierarchy you don’t know how ■■■■ is to start new these days.
And not to be unfair, the AIR initiative is veeeery good. Very very good. But you can check the SoF and Explorer paths and see no noob is going to achieve that without some heavy investment. I don’t know at this point if it was an oversight or a tentative to lead some whale to buy.
Bro, no new player gonna hack 20 cans in WH space, you (AIR) guys must be tripping… for real.
Now I have a good answer to the OP: Wokeness will be the end of EVE, 'til there we guccy, the game will suffer here and there, but will manage. The moment the game loses its identity, we’re fuked.
PS: I can relate to the heroes that created the biggest MMO listening to some random stupid exec saying: “I wish we didn’t called it WAR****”. Man that’s gotta hurt. I mean they all made in life, but some random idiot spitting in your legacy to signalize virtue is very ■■■■■■ up. That’s the only real threat to EVE, look no further.
I never saw any advert. I was directed to the game by a friend of mine that had started the game at launch. He was in a mining corp and served as support in the large mining ops that they had.
Just the mere act of jumping several gates in a bantam to get to the op……then seeing the large fleet of exhumers in an asteroid field ….was enough to hook me. I never looked back. I wanted their ships, i wanted to do what they were doing.
I can add to that, the last advert I remember was some ■■■■ about “Strike from the shadows” followed by new feature of changing fleet formation.
I still remember “STRIKE LIKE A THUNDERBOLT”. Then I remembered I was just a filthy 50 million char and calmed down myself. But that advert was damn cool.
The mining angle is always the: easy safe infinity ISK bait every single noob falls for it.
And since I want to put fire on this thread, lets all remember the COACH, not the content we wanted, but the content we needed. We need another idiot like that… And that time, don’t farm him like no tomorrow, gotta extract the maximum from it. Our gankers are too much amateur, that content should have provided more, but some gankers took it too personal.
Discuss.
PS: I was in character referring to the coach, I don’t think like that in RL, according to my lawyer.
PS2: refer to https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AdfFnTt2UT0
The farther away we get from it, the more ■■■■■■ we are. Triglavians don’t make EVE, players do. Stop this NPC ■■■■ for good.
Even this is kind of misleading. While you can buy your way into a cap ship these days, you still need to learn the basics on how to fly them no matter how good your FC is.
