To be fair, some of the people that get targeted in this way absolutely deserve it. I must admit to being guilty of going after certain posters in this way myself; mostly because I consider their ideas to be the antithesis of what Eve is reputed to be, and they flatly refuse to engage in reasonable debate with anybody that disagrees with them.
I choose to read it and leave an opinion on it. That you perceive it as overly critical and offensive, shouldnât result in a ban. Even if I choose to outright ridicule your opinion, it shouldnât result in a ban. Who really cares about what is written on this forum. Itâs not like CCP is going to implement any of the ideas directly, without having it go through their own iterations.
This is just the beginning of the never ending rabbit hole. As the usual âdiscussionsâ start in here.
If we should ban people for baseless criticism, we should equally ban people for coming up with useless ideas, that arenât supported by any legitimate data. Just see how quickly these forums will go empty. Might as well just delete the whole thing, a notion I fully support.
first off - its not about YOU. lol.
SecondâŚI donât give AF what you post on topic but this pattern of attacking character because of idea is a cop out and it needs to end.
Likewise. But the âtrollâ switch is usually thrown for a reason and the PvE thread that started all this is a perfect example of that. This thread too I personally havenât thrown the switch (and wont).
I think a big problem with some is that they see a name and only ever equate it to one thing; the enemy, rather than taking each post/thread in stride. Dracvlad is one that is generally opposite of how I see Eve and have viciously fought him many timesâŚbut I never do it to spite him because he does have some pretty good points some times (ie the bumping debates). Others like Narnia (or whatever name heâs using today) needs to be trolled relentlesslyâŚcase by case, person by person, thread by threadâŚ
Black and white thinking is never a good thingâŚand if one finds themselves in that place then there needs to be a pretty good reason whyâŚ
Didnât reference myself in any way. It was a hypothetical âIâ.
âAttacking characterâ is sometimes subjective. For example, if I see an idea that is god awful, yet I donât want to spend too much time on a reply. One might just reply âNoâ. However, since there is a limit to how short a reply can be, one has to reply âNo â â â â offâ. In no way, is this a personal attack. It is just expressing for the person to go and taking their idea with them. Sure it is harsh, but not really a ban-able offence.
Actually there isâŚwhen it is deserved. Todayâs PvE thread is the perfect example of that and no, I wont âstay out of themâ. This is a forumâŚnot a safe space. I broke no rules, by a long shot nor did anyone else.
âŚand BTW, telling somebody to use the in-game report function is NOT defending a racist by any stretch of the imagination.
While we all appreciate a good discussion, and we value your feedback (even though we likely canât/wonât go into details publicly), I would like to ask everybody that this doesnât turn into a heated debateâŚ
Runa act like a civil human being and debate all day. No one is attacking your right to a reasonable opinion. In the old days we left character attack out of the equation - that needs to be reinstated. No one should be insulting anyone in the expression of their opinion. The problem is there is this zeitgeist that that is ok and it needs to end.
Also thanks to the moderators to whom this thread was meant to be about. We need to make a better one and be better ourselves.
Why are some trolls allowed to troll continuously?
Why are some trolls that actively encourage players to stop playing the game, allowed to continue doing so?
Why are some trolls allowed to make personal attacks on others?
I refer you to this:
