ISD volunteering Discussion

You just have to know how to get around the rules. For example, when they post that list of things we’re not allowed to talk about when they lock threads, “pornography” is prominently stated at the top. But did you know that there’s absolutely no forum rule barring cornography from being discussed? It’s true. That means that I can post something like this, and get away with it because I’m not breaking any rules:

Now a bunch of skeezy internet sickos will be creaming themselves to some hot corn shucking, and there’s absolutely nothing the mods can do about it. This stain on EVE’s great legacy will remain public forever.

That made me laugh

Didn’t she have a real paid job and not ISD? Thinking community or PR related to dust.

Rest of this…yeah. This is how this works. Don’t like it, don’t volunteer.

Get a kid in scouting and watch it get complicated. You pay to be a volunteer. SInce for some functions unless a registered adult supporter you can’t really be there. And do annual training. Sucks too…can’t skip to the end of the videos. 20 to 30 minutes of annual “fun” per video.

Volunteering is fine. But Profit organizasions who employ volunteers and then just give them freebies can be legally questioned. Why can’t they jusy hire them as part timers, on calls or contract workers.

Just buy a trolling permit from the ISDs and it’ll be all fine.

Its easy to tell.

The nice ones do it properly and have banter.

The other sort get it “wrong”, dont follow precedent and only talk when pushed.

Do you have a contract with CCP ?

Edit : yes, answered above

It was CCP Mint Chip not ISD Mintchip, unless my memory has failed me.

Which goes to show, CCP was willing to pay for what Mint chip brought to the eve 'verse but not the ISD.

I think the writing is on the wall, CCP needs to look at the ISD & pay them a fair statutory wage as employees or at the very least as self employed contractors.

For profit corps should not be using “volunteers” to moderate a forum.

ISD works for CCP one way or another, but they receive no pay. Members of ISD accepted that.

It is pretty ridiculous if you ask me. Game company that milks its customers and floods mail with ads riddled with ambiguities, and still gets people who are willing to spend good portion of day to work for free for them.

What do ISD actually get from this?

Not money, we can be sure.

But what about ASCIIgraphy? 8=D

Or atleast CCP could just reimburse their internet bill. I know a Non Profit corp. Who use volunteers but they reimburse the volunteers basic expenses. The volunteers just need to show reciepts.

Well at the end of the day the ISD can do what they want. If they have grevience they could write to CCP & ask for owed wages.

We as customers however can lean on CCP into not using anymore modern day slave tactics espically when they’ve just recently purchased a great place to work at certificate.

Yup. Community manager for Dust. But she came over to the EVE forums to announce herself, after she said she was done with EVE.

Nobody at CCP plays Eve. I don’t understand what the problem was.

Allow me to ask out of curiosity, as a Volounteer do you get like umm some limits that they want you to be x time online in lets say month, or it’s just you’re online and doing work when you got time and energy for EVE community ?

I agree, due to principles and the rather obvious paths that will be traveled by the choices.

I do not believe slavery was always just a simple matter of “I caught you, now you must work for me”. I believe that it often developed over time as desperate or fringe benefit seeking persons agree to work for less and less, and then a point was reached where the employer class got so jaded and selfish and lazy they up and decided to just do away with the pleasantries and treat people as the farm animals they already viewed them as. See “indentured servitude” and how it morphed into chattel slavery in the U.S. already once before.

Allowing people to consent to abuse has pitfalls that threaten to eventually suck many of us in who do not consent.

I will need moderator confirmation on that. My disdain is quite pronounced frankly.

This is 100 percent true, so long as you understand that the rules are made up on the spot. :rage:

You cannot say bot because its insensitive and offensive. The proper term is scripted player.

Or Non-Player Player.

This latest patch as an example. It does not bother me that the ISD are volunteers. All the players who log in after a patch volunteer to be beta testers for free.
