its a complete pain to try and fit the new mining destroyer ships and the new command destroyer for their purposes when the CPU and PG are too low for the purpose of the ships. i feel this needs to get fixed. any thoughts from the community?
Are you trying to fit large shield extenders?
Have you checked the fits in eveworkbech.com?
What are you trying to fit?
Probably 3 Minings Lasers + Mining Upgrades + Medium Shield Extenders + Invuls ![]()
Command Destroyer base CPU:
Magus: 210 tf
Pontifex: 220 tf
Bifrost: 250 tf
Stork: 280 tf
Outrider: 370 tf â this is massive!
If anything, we can conclude that the Outrider does not have âtoo low CPUâ for a hull of itâs type.
The problem is caused by the high CPU drain of mining modules.
I noticed the same a few years ago when I tried to fit a Prospect for âmax yieldâ with two lasers and four mining laser upgrades - it just doesnât work well!
Not only do Miner II or the more expensive ORE Miner modules require a big 80 tf each, this huge CPU cost is also increased by adding multiple Mining Laser Upgrade IIs, which not only cost another 40 tf each but also add a 12.5% CPU cost penalty to mining lasers.
In other words, adding 3x Miner II with 3x mining laser upgrade IIs to this ship to âmake it mine fastâ like you would fit on other mining ships, costs your CPU 462 tf.
(Or 435 tf with good skills.)
Clearly the problem is that no mining destroyer, not even one with twice as much CPU as a regular command destroyer has will be able to fit that.
If youâre then also trying to add one or two command bursts on top of that, the thing that a Command Destroyer is supposed to be doing, your CPU is another 55 or 110 tf further.
Clearly something is wrong.
Asking CCP to add more CPU to the Outrider is not a good option, these ships already have so much CPU that I wonder if it might perhaps have a bit too much compared to other ships. In a combat fit it could fit an expanded probe launcher with zero issues, thatâs how silly high itâs CPU already is!
There is a solution available to us players:
The fix to Outrider CPU issues
Donât get a max yield fit. At least not when also bringing two boosts.
Choose.
Either go for max yield, or for max boosts. Or something in between. You just cannot have it all at once.
Thatâs it. Just remove some mining laser upgrades and equip a CPU upgrade instead if you insist in equipping foreman bursts as well.
It is possible to fit max yield on an Outrider with the setup I mentioned above: 3x mining laser II with 3x laser upgrades. But not if you also wish to be bringing two boosts.
For example this fit:
Of course when the mining ship can bring bursts it would be a waste not to equip it with two mining bursts and maximum yield from lasers.
In that case you could look for more alternative ways reduce your CPU usage:
- Elara Restrained Mining Laser Upgrade only takes 35 tf to fit rather than 40, but more importantly the laser CPU penalty is only 8% rather than 12.5%
- âWildâ Miner I mines as much as the Miner II, but requires only 54 tf rather than 80. Thatâs a massive difference.
- T1 mining laser upgrade has a lower CPU penalty too and is even easier to fit than the Restrained version, and is cheap.
- T1 mining laser itself is also a lot easier to fit than the T2 version, at 60 tf versus 80.
Or simply add a CPU upgrade in those lows instead, which is a massive boost to your CPU compared to a Mining Laser Upgrade.
So, like many of you I guess I did not want to choose and tried to equip it all. Yield and bursts.
The fit I ended at when I went through the same question of âhow do I deal with the massive CPU drain of mining modulesâ was something like this:
I might tweak it a bit, maybe add some ORE miners. I think it will work fine for me.
Or for those who donât wish to equip modules worth more than a few million on their ship, hereâs a more economic version:
I hope these tips and fits help solve the issue with the new destroyers.
Yes, the Outrider requires a lot of CPU to work with, but this ship has a massive amount of CPU already, so try the many options we have to reduce the CPU drain on our mining tools.
Couldnât imagine you fit faction meta mods on mining destroyer. Itâs just not worth it.
Need to check in first place if all support skills maxed and play with cpu implant. Yet again the advantages of adding yield % by adding expensive gear not worth it and if he only cares on hrs/isk itâs still better go to barge or exhumer.
Huh, I have mine fully fit out, 3 ML II, 2 mining upgrades, probe launcher, survey scanner, drone speed mod, microwarp drive, etc, if your skills are low or not near maxed you may need to work on that or buy some 3% implants for CPU and PG.
I use both pioneer and consortium issues both with no issues and no special anything because I always fly cheap.
It seems you have one mining foreman burst too many. You can only have one of those active at a time on that ship.
Yeah, you really need the skill Mining Upgrades to level 5 on this ship. In addition, you also need your Fitting Skills to level 5.
Saves on implants.
Thatâs what the Command Processor I rig is for. ![]()
It does however mean giving up a rig that could have been for CPU, and means spending another 55 tf on a second burst. So for fits tight on CPU this may not be the best choice.
These fits in Pyfa assume you have all skills maxed. I dislike fitting implants, so I personally try to avoid them but those are indeed a good option.
The Outrider is not an alternative for a barge or exhumer, itâs an alternative to a Porpoise or Orca.
This Outrider fit above will likely replace my Porpoise.
Iâm flying my mining ships with faction meta mods anyway, so why not the new Outrider too? ORE lasers and strip miners are expensive but nice to use on my Hulks / Mackinaws.
Iâll likely do something similar for the Outrider:
A âPorpoiseâ that mines over 30 m3/s by itself without residue while also boosting Exhumers is pretty good!
Expensive, but has a lot more yield than the Porpoise I used before.
oh wow youâre right! Thanks!
I just applied that to my Orca. Having 4 command modules looks good on it.
