Not really, what Max is describing is just EVE without pods (and of course your permadeath concept.) I suppose you could rework the skill system for that mode too… to work more like traditional xp… and have actual crew on the ship.
I think the key here will be skill extraction… like you’ll have to trade skillpoints for a static copy, and introduce some kind of barrier for entry like 20m sp
A nice idea, but I doubt on people’s commitment to make something like this happen.
More likely we’d all be in velators or T1 frigs, since any effort required to build and undock in anything else without dying in the process would be next to impossible.
Would love to see it though, would make the Eve universe feel much more alive.
I disagree. I think bigger and more advanced ships would still be prevalent. It’s just that not nearly every single player would be flying a T3 or Marauder or Ikitursa or whatever. You’d probably see a lot more T1 battlecruisers and battleships, and elite ships like large T2 hulls and Triglavian ships would be a very big status symbols. Interdictors (and their pilots) would be exceptionally rare, and downright legendary.
I also disagree. I don’t think the server would be popular, but for the people who do, they’d get in the best thing they could fly since that would give them the best chance at survival.
Solo pvp would probably be much less common though, unless it’s hitting miners in cloaky ships.
the whole vid shows basically how i imagine the average eve player. the priest was probably a highsec “pvper”, trying some lame cheese but so bad at the game he still got outplayed by a weaker opponent because he could not 5v1 or did not outlevel(upship) enough
I have no reason to object to this. I think permadeath is sufficiently game changing that it doesn’t really detract from the main game, but I would expect people to skirt the loss of their items through storage alts, even if they have to pay for it.
Actually the priest out-leveled the paladin by 9 levels, which is a massive difference due to the way that WoW stats work (anything over 3 levels above you is virtually impossible to defeat). It’s just that, as Asmon said, the priest was really, really bad at the game. As bad as those no-skill idiots who do nothing but high-sec wars all day and think that they’re actually skilled at PvP.
RMT is really interesting in WoW HC because of how quickly you out-level items. You can buy some gold and swipe some good blue gear from the auction house, but after two levels you’d already be getting green quest rewards with better stats.
EVE would be vastly different in this regard, because a T2 armor hardener is as good for a 2-month-old character as it is for a 10-year-old character. There would probably be a very prevalent RMT market in EVE HC, but to be fair that’s true for pretty much any MMO today.
Just accept this can never happen nor can a pve server.
Tranquility is an ecosystem that relies on a balance of creation and destruction and to upset that balance by taking any part of the system and putting it in a separate isolated location is gonna pull it apart at the seems. It’s an insane notion. And really highlights your lack of understanding of both the mechanics and spirit of EVE.
And yes while there are some people who from their limited perspective selfishly want the game exactly as they want it. Those people are literally willing to put their own desires ahead of the health of the game for the majority and that’s why it can’t be allowed. EVER!
Im sorry if that blunt answer upsets you. But if it does you need to learn more of how EVE works. This idea is like storming the capital or burning your state’s constitution. It’s an assault on the fundamental principals of the game.
