I already said it’s up to Ms. Raske to do whatever she wants. And I don’t even visit the place, so this is purely a theoretical discussion for me because it would not affect my attendance in any way.
Some of us just wanted to ask what is the benefit of having yet another area for staging play-fights, in what is mostly a place of relaxation and mingling. There are actual gyms that focus on that sort of thing.
More importantly than the space being usable for multiple things–it already is, yes?–I will say plainly that you lot cannot go anywhere without making it a place for fighting.
Don’t you get enough of it, really? Lasa can do what she likes. And so can you lot, and it is very disturbing that almost none of you seem bothered by the demonstration here that what you want to do is fight.
It’s awful. Get hobbies. Go have a glass of water.
If you’re looking for a real challenge Aria, you could always enter the draw for the Arena games here.
As for the rest of you, why don’t you just swing a sack of doorknobs at each other ? What is it with this weird obsession with beating each other up with your bare fists ?
You mean like the hobby you’re not engaging in right now while you’re fighting with people on the forum?
Look, you keep saying Lasa can do what she wants with her space. Personally, I don’t think that needs to be said. I mean, it’s a given, right? Or should be? So, she’s got a dance area. She’s got a drinking area. Arguably, the ‘suites’ constitute a ‘you went drinking and dancing and now you’re gonna get laid’ area. Oh, and she’s included a sparring/training area.
Well, let’s see… people have already been going there to dance. Is the continued ability to dance there something that needs discussion? Nah.
People have already been going there to drink. Should that be what’s under discussion? Probably not.
How about the casino? Oooh! Let’s all talk about gambling, because bragging about our skills in games of chance and boasting about how we have self-control problems that Lasa can totally exploit to siphon off all of our money in a parasitic relationship that preys on addiction… that totally won’t make her out to be a horrible person looking to take advantage of her friends’ weaknesses!
Should we instead be talking about all the sex sleeping we’re going to go to L’Amore specifically to do? I dunno, that seems kinda crass, and really, if I want to get into that stuff, I’m probably not doing it at L’Amore (though the name suits it, and who knows, the suites might have interesting themes or something… it’s still not my normal scene, though).
So people are talking about the other new activity they’ll be able to do there. Aria, for example, a bodyguard both in and out of the pod, who prides herself on her conditioning and training, will have a venue in which she can meet up with friends and test herself, get tips and pointers, and enjoy herself. In fact… only two people have actually talked about fighting in there. And you just leap right in to take them to task for it.
You don’t just say ‘well, that’s not for me’, you actively denigrate them for enjoying physical exertion and training, and looking forward to being able to indulge that without actually harming anyone. And when someone dares to say ‘well, you know, it’s not like we’re looking to hurt one another’… you move on to outright berating them over it.
Personally, I don’t plan to use the gym, either. Getting beat up isn’t my thing. I mean, at this point, I’d kinda welcome someplace to sit, not have all the noise, maybe curled up with someone special, and discuss matters of import great, small, between, and utterly non-existent. Like, actually talk and discuss, in person. Where people remember that they’re dealing with another actual person, and don’t always leap to be super-aggressive on everything the way they do here. (Full disclosure, there are people who leap to super-aggression face-to-face, too.)
Discussing whether or not that’s a great use of the space? That’d be reasonable. Talking to people about the whys and wherefores of what they like about sparring would be, too. Maybe trying to understand where they’re coming from, instead of immediately leaping to tell them how wrong they are? Maybe you’d find out that they do it because it’s a rewarding way to stay in shape. Or that their professional responsibilities include a need to remain in well-honed shape for physical combat, even outside the pod. But you see, then you’d be seeking understanding. And along the way, you could be helping them to understand why it concerns you so much. That’d be great. That would, you know, not be confrontational. It would be discussion.
But that’s not what you did. In your shocked outrage that people might make a space they’re being told is ‘a place for fighting’ into ‘a place for fighting’… you’ve made this thread into such a place. So how 'bout you take a deep breath, and calm down. Maybe have a drink. Who knows? Go get a glass of water. And maybe a hobby that isn’t verbally fighting over how horrible it is that someone might be fighting.
Cuz all you’re doing here and now is fighting about fighting. And you’re the aggressor. You’re the one making it a fight. And if you’re not careful, you might get that Loai Qerl chick yelling at you for it. I hear she really doesn’t like it when people reduce everything to fighting.
I’m all for a properly organized open martial arts tournament. Fully controlled contact only though, it’s about skill, not just knocking lumps out of each other.
As for poles being available I can stand very still and offer my services if required.
My goal with these renovations is to provide a wider range of services at my venue. If I recall, lots of hotels have training/gym areas. This will not detract from the basic purpose of my venue, which is a nightclub/restaurant.
I did not realize this would generate so much discussion and opinion, especially from those who do not frequent the venue. On the whole, however, I’m glad to see the positive response to the changes.
At the end of the day, we all have free will. Come along, see what’s on offer, or don’t. It’s up to you. No one is twisting your arm.
I might suggest an open session to practice and share martial arts from all backgrounds though. Not competitive, but rather more informative. A coming together of philosophies and techniques.
