The Legion Expansion looks like CCPP is opening the gates of Hell and letting the demons out with the new ships being released. But why, what have done for Hell to be opened, and the demons released? Is it all of the treachery and backstabbing, a lot of suicide gankings that gave energy to the demons being released?
Countless frozen corpses simply left on the battlefield, the hosts last agonizing and drawn screams of pain, harvested and combined with the last moments of other Capsuleers, in the forge of the Hells.
What you didnât expect Hell to come looking for New Eden, a new heaven? The smell of New Eden has drifted across time and space for thousands of years, leaving in its wake, all of the right ingredients for the Hells to be reforged.
Well, I am not a big fan of all that powercreep, but a Triglavian Marauder fits into the line of ships. For KISS reasons, the Trigs should simply get ALL T2 versions of all ships the other races have as well. They are obviousl not just some âpiracy groupâ but a true faction with own space. So give them CovOps, Bombers, Ceptors, Commandships etc pp.
If that new Trig Marauder will be okay or totally OP (most likely in the beginning), we will see. Given that Trig guns have superior tracking and the Bastion module in general gives some further range, it could become the new de-facto-standard for ratting, especially in WHs where a lot of eHP has to be removed.
Angel Dread⌠Donât like the CMJD feature. Just another unnessessary exception from the general rule that Dreads canât move in Siege (on their own). They should have given the Angels a dread, but design it like the other Angel ships: Faster align, Faster warps, less Mass, good tracking and okayish Damage over range with the Projectile Weapons. Would have been enough in my book. However, I hope a single Scram can shut it down.
I happen to agree on the CMJD point. Bubblers are a necessary tool to lock down dreadnoughts as reinforcements arrive. If this dread can simply MJD out (even in siege!) and then jump out, itâll require a lot more effort to catch, making bubblers very vulnerable to subcap support fleets.
Also, whatâs to stop the dread from hitting Capital Invuln and MJD at the same time, surviving to jump those 100km and get out of range of many dreads. It seems like a very broken idea.
So says the rumors started on a planet as yet known in New Eden. ButâŚthe rumor spreads as fast as the sun sets and the darkness of night creeps over the horizon of every habitable planet and station inâŚNew Eden.
^ I was wondering the same thing. For a second I thought they were bringing back WIS with pubs and terminals. Finding little to be enthusiastic about otherwise, new ships do not fix age old problem and freelancer jobs seem to just be another vector of the regular market mechanics that will naturally gravitate to Jita. For sure people are going to go for the new ships cause even the limited details they are clearly OP and who does not want to have a Trig mini-dread in their hangar?
Youâre absolutely rightâthe Legion expansion isnât just a thematic shift; itâs a calculated move by CCP to reignite the fires of New Eden, both literally and figuratively.
Player Activity Trends
While EVE Online has experienced fluctuations in player activity over the years, recent data indicates a resurgence. As of early 2025, the estimated daily active player count stands at approximately 35,000, with a total player base exceeding 10 million . This uptick suggests that CCPâs strategies to invigorate the game are bearing fruit.
Introduction of Potent Warships
The Legion expansion introduces formidable ships like the Triglavian Babaroga marauder and the Angel Cartel Sarathiel dreadnought. The Babaroga boasts devastating entropic disintegrators and a bastion module, delivering game-changing subcapital DPS. Meanwhile, the Sarathiel, agile and lethal, is the only dreadnought capable of using a Capital Micro Jump Drive in siege mode . These additions are designed to escalate conflict and reshape battlefield dynamics.
Strategic Gameplay Enhancements
Beyond new ships, Legion brings the Freelance Jobs system, allowing corporations to create missions for players outside their ranks. This feature not only fosters collaboration but also integrates new players into the broader EVE ecosystem . Additionally, enhancements to alliance sovereignty and corporate branding tools empower players to assert their influence more effectively.
Embracing the Chaos
The thematic elements of Legionâfrom the lore to the mechanicsâunderscore a deliberate embrace of chaos. By introducing powerful warships and systems that encourage conflict, CCP is not just opening the gates of Hell metaphorically; theyâre inviting players to partake in the ensuing inferno.
The forum thread titled âLegion Expansionâ on the EVE Online forums presents a range of player reactions to the upcoming expansion. Hereâs a concise summary:
1. Thematic Interpretation:
The original post by DrysonBennington uses vivid, metaphorical language to describe the expansion as unleashing chaos upon New Eden, suggesting that the new ships and features are akin to releasing demons from Hell.
2. Skepticism and Critique:
Gerard_Amatin questions the dramatic portrayal, implying a disconnect between the trailer and the described chaos.
Syzygium and Nujenif_Talvanen express concerns about potential power creep, particularly with the introduction of the Triglavian Marauder and the Angel Dreadnoughtâs unique capabilities, such as the Capital Micro Jump Drive (CMJD) in siege mode. They argue that these features might disrupt game balance and established mechanics.
3. Gameplay Mechanics and Balance:
QuakeGod criticizes the idea of allowing movement (via MJD) while in modes traditionally associated with immobility, like siege or bastion, suggesting it undermines existing gameplay strategies.
Eloken_Toralen expresses disappointment, noting that new ships donât address longstanding issues and that features like freelancer jobs may not significantly impact the gameâs dynamics.
4. Analytical Support:
Swing_Vote provides a more analytical perspective, citing player activity trends and the introduction of powerful warships as evidence of CCPâs strategy to rejuvenate the game. They note an estimated daily active player count of approximately 35,000 and a total player base exceeding 10 million as of early 2025, suggesting a resurgence in player engagement.
Summary:
The thread reflects a spectrum of player sentiments regarding the Legion Expansion. While some embrace the thematic depth and potential revitalization of the game, others raise valid concerns about balance, power creep, and whether the new features address core gameplay issues.
So hereâs where we see the failings of AI programmed for general purposes rather than specific âin contextâ knowledge. Otherwise it would have said âDryson appears to be off his medication again, as usual. Hopefully other players will cover for him by turning his unhinged ramblings into an actual EVE discussion.â
As for the expansion itself, yes the power creep is real, but games like this have shown that power creep is one of the things you can get lapsed players to shell out more cash for, so of course CCP will go that route. TBH theyâve been somewhat restrained in that direction so itâs not really a bad thing.
However CCP being CCP will do what theyâve done before: release something OP enough that everybodyâs âgotta have itâ, then wait for it to wreck the game a little (or a lot - hello Rorquals) and then nerf it into yesterdayâs news.
Hard to tell how the âspace shapingâ mods to Null will work out, wait and see I guess.
The only part Iâm actually interested in is the Freelance Jobs addition. Which gives players more tools to âbuildâ in the sandbox rather than just shuffle sand around. Itâs something Iâve been saying was needed since well before Corp Projects came out. (Donât worry CCP⌠I wonât charge you royalties!)
Like EVE Pandora, this is the direction I believe EVE needs to be going in. Giving players more tools to take control of the sandbox and really âcreateâ content. As opposed to, you know, gate camping or ganking someone and then crowing about how youâre âcreating content for EVEâ.
Courier contracts also can be exploited by gankers and scammers, but also help the rest of the players who want to set contracts up or want to run them.
I donât know much about these âfreelance jobsâ, but it could have a similar impact.
And if scammers and gankers also can use it thatâs in the spirit of EVE.
A charitable interpretation would be that it is definitely a massive improvement over setting up buy orders for ore or salvage in remote regions or trading bookmarks to salvagers near mission hubs. The former has a very limited visibility and discoverability, the latter is just a pain for all involved parties.
If a player made mission or freelance job for example for âSalvage everything at this bookmarkâ or âMine ten Venture loads of Scorditeâ is possible and visible over regional borders, then this could be useful. Especially if this incorporates some sort of buyback mechanic based on estimated value.
I am more worried about the abuse mechanic it will manifest. new players usually want âquestsâ and with freelance jobs theyâll get what they want. so far so good. but now the people offering those freelance jobs will get insanely rich with all their new player slaves. so far so good (at least for them). but the real problem will be the spam we can expect in mail, local channels, unwanted convos, rookie help, etc.
Iâm not so concerned with the spam, but the fact that many (if not all) of these freelance missions will be a setup, ie: youâll be warping to a system with a waiting gank fleet, gate camp, etc.
These will generally be fine in null-sec or wormhole space, and I think low-sec will see through the BS as well - but I donât see anything but a series of unending scams and abuses in high-sec.
I mean, why would you need high-sec freelancers to do anything? Itâs the poorest region in the game⌠Unless these are going to be AI-generated by the game as well, why would you forego a known risk with regular mining or missioning for a completely unknown one - especially if it smells like, looks like and acts like bait?
Great idea in theory - but just like contracts with the initial citadel release - these are going to be 110% abused from the start.
