When I started playing EVE there was no queue. People had all kinds of unfinished skills due to not wanting one to finish while they were at work, sleeping, or taking the dog for a walk.
I will not be critical about the CCP.
I PLEXed my sub since time imemorial.
I love the way they made it, That you can play and make enough isk to get the Omega status, or like it was before, SUBSCRIBED status. Be powefull! Empowering move!
If not for that, I would not play the game at all probably. Or played it for a shoter times, few months, then pause. Probably.
Probably, because I played some games before that with subs, and I was happy with that.
But PLEXing makes your game time worth a bit more, it makes you competitive at least, good for the game, good for you, as its about self-improvement a bit also, at least in game.
At least thats how I feel about it.
The time it takes for new players to achieve the PLEXed status may be a bit longer now tho…
Let’s say I have 80m SP’s and a new player has 500k SP’s (0.00625). He buys 10 injectors (4,900,000). I buy 10 injectors (1,500,000). That’s 3.266666667 times more SP’s he gains. Our new total SP’s are now 81,500,000 and 5,400,000. He now has 0.066257669 of my SP’s. He gained 91% and I gained 2%.
IF skill injectors gave me the same return, he couldn’t catch up to me without having to outspend me.
Now that I thought some more about it, the issue is probably this: for every great deal there has to be a counter party with a terrible deal.
As good as the ISK-PLEX deal is for you, so bad is the dollar-PLEX deal for the newbie-whale, but newbies rarely know it, due to lack of experience and false expectations.
Show me a player who bought a lot of PLEX for dollars and I’ll show you a person who has been had, bamboozled, conned for real dollars.
Omega can be a decent deal, but PLEX is a crappy deal. New players get warned against whaling all the time, for good reason. EVE turns out to be about the worst MMO imaginable, for trying to show off as a whale.
There is some quick convenience in getting some fitting skills and support skills up to level 3 or 4, plus some small specialization of choice, when a new player starts out in a hurry, but that’s at most $50 of PLEX-to-ISK-to-injector sales. Anything more is a total waste of money. That’s not nearly enough to account for all the PLEXing that’s going on.
It gets so bad, because more than any other MMO in existence, EVE scales very well horizontally (with more players / pilots), but poorly vertically, through top level character skills and outright terribly with more bling. On top of that, in EVE, whales can easily lose what power they purchased (if they chose bling or bigger ships), which is very unusual in the MMO scene where purchases are typically protected.
We generally hate whales over here, but you also have to look at it from their perspective. The ISK-PLEX farming scheme relies on exploiting those very same whales. Basically what we are enjoying (and in the past I got some PLEX in exchange for ISK too), is a total ■■■■ show.
It’s no wonder the CEO thinks we’re ready for NFTs.
Me either. Some people blow their cash on items, events, or activities that have very little long-term return. I had a buddy in the Army that paid $700.00 (a long time ago) to wrestle in a 6-foot plastic swimming pool, filled with JELL-O® with a stripper.
My point is, if someone wants to buy PLEX with cash and undock in a Super…and it explodes…more power to him. If he later cries about it, he should be lambasted (a little).
If you pay your sub in 500 plex, CCP made £16 from that sub, rather than the £10 you would have spent.
Plexing doesn’t cost CCP money over a normal subscription
If a newb is smart, theyll stay alpha as long as possible to keep getting 500k for injectors by purchasing the alpha injectors. No diminishing returns so they can still get up to 20 mil SP by using alpha injectors and for every 10 injectors, receive the same as 1 large skill injector, at a cheaper cost
I really don’t understand why the problem is PLEXing…and the problem isn’t multiple accounts.
I can’t make billions ganking a gate at Jita with a single account. I could with multiple accounts. Yet if I PLEX my account through the roof and…horrors…‘pay to win’, then somehow that is bad yet having 5 accounts that make ISK gathering much easier isn’t. I don’t understand the PLEX/multiboxing double standard.
PLEXing an account and paying to win are two different, mutually exclusive methods. PLEXIng is buying PLEX to sub with ISK, NOT with dollars.
Trying to pay to win, is merely stupid in this game, but not a huge problem if isolated by itself. CCP encouraging newbies to buy PLEX, I consider exploitive though.
There’s no double standard. Many players are not against a little multi-boxing, though more and more it’s getting out of hand, to the point of self-harm.
The KEY is skill injector trade. It removes many of the necessary brakes on the system and makes other players unwittingly complicit in the P2W scam.
