I doubt he’ll have the CPU. Check the weapon upgrade and missile rigging skills before you try it anyway mate.
if he doesnt have weapon upgrades skill up to 4 - he will be forced to downgrade Missile Enhancer and BCUs anyway which in return will free quite a bit of CPU.

Note that it is cap-stable now (at max relevant alpha skills) which means much higher sustained tank (almost doubled), and it is slim enough to speed-tank.
Hi
Ok. So the Caracal, lets start with flying it.
When you open your fit simulator, go ahead and load whichever missiles you will be using, hover your mouse over it, it will tell you the maximum distance your missiles will be able to hit at. Due to your individual skill progression etc, I do not know what that distance will be.
You can buy 1x Missile Range Script, and 1x Missile Precision Script, as well as various ammo types for it. The long range or high precision missiles usually do much less DPS but work as intended per their description. You can right click and “show info” on each missile type, also go to the attributes tab to see the exact stats. On Tech II missiles, you can go to the Requirements tab to see which skills you will need to train for them.
The Scripts, are basically like ammo for the computer, but do not get consumed. You can unload them back into your ships cargo bay and switch them as you feel like, when you need more range, or more precision. You can also change scripts then move mouse over missile launcher to see what effects (in case of range) it has.
When you land into a pocket, you want to start up your afterburner, the Adaptive Invuln Field (the orange thing) and the computer. These will be always on. The computer may have a Script of your choice in it, or none if you want a more general instead of specialized effect. To see full effects, simply activate it in fit simulator while it has a script or none loaded and right click on it, then show info.
With your AB and comp on, you want to establish range that is just below your missiles maximum. For the sake of discussion lets say this range is 20 km. So you you should enter orbit around your target at around 17-18 km. The default orbit settings let you do only 15 or 20. If you use defaults go for 15 km until you get the hang of setting it all up. Once in orbit, start firing at your target.
Then once your target is killed, go into orbit to the next, rinse repeat. When switching orbits, try not to make sharp turns, but rather “ease” from one to another. This will take you some practice, and it a small part of what we all refer to in the game as “speed tanking”. The reason for not using sharp turns is because when you do, your speed drops down and you take extra damage during that time until it goes back up. Note this is not all of speed tanking, but rather a small part of it.
Do not always use the shield booster. Use it only when you have damage to repair, you have rather limited time before your ship runs out of capacitor if you leave it on for too long. The shield booster is meant to do only 2 things. First you can turn it on for a limited amount of time if you start taking heavy damage so that you can get out, second is to repair after the combat so you can get back into action faster. Using it, is an ever balancing act between your shield and capacitor. This will greatly improve as you train further, train capacitor skills first, then shield skills (including ones that make shield module use more efficient). So keep that in mind, right now you may have a hard time with it, but it will get better, much better.
Next step. Make sure your overview has a column in it called “transversal” This is very important. Transversal velocity, is tricky to explain so take a look https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=eve+online+transversal but basically, the higher it is, the less you will get hit from your opponents, the lower it is, the more you will get hit. This applies for PvE and PvP alike.
When doing missions, try not to agro whole rooms, you will notice spawns are basically divided into groups. You can fly all the way around and agro only 1 group at a time. This will help you greatly.
Do not hesitate to warp out if things start going sideways. In fact, I recommend to do this, you can always come back after you repair to full or regain capacitor or both. If you are in a system with a station in it, you can set a station as a “destination” so that when you need to warp out fast you will have it ready to go instead of bumbling around overview and trying to find a suitable place to warp to. Docking, even for 1 second, restores both shield and capacitor to full and if the station has repair available, you can repair any damaged armor or hull while at it.
Now going back to flying. Once you have some understanding of how transversals work, you can stop using the automatic orbit functions and start manually piloting to get much better control over all this. Manual piloting in this game is achieved by simply double clicking in space. You can use both regular and “tactical” camera. Tactical camera will show you your opponents orbits etc. so you can start using it to be more predictive. But don’t do this now, do one thing at a time until you get the hang of it. Orbits 1st, then manual piloting, then tactical.
For the ammo, don’t worry too much. I know it seems expensive, but its really not. Keep your launchers grouped together. You can also break them down to 2 groups, doesn’t have to be 1. Note that your targets will die easiest as they are heading in a straight line towards you from max range of your weapon. The straighter it is, the easier they get hit and faster they die. So when you manually pilot, and lets say there are 20 things that are agro on you which do enough damage to kill you. Eventually, you will be able to manually pilot so that only 2-3 of them will have low transversals to you and you kill those, while the rest will remain high thus mostly missing you or doing very little damage. This is the point you want to get to while speed tanking on top of that.
The concept of speed tanking is relatively simple, the faster you move at angle or around your opponent, the less damage you will take. But there are exceptions. MWD is sometimes not worth it for speed tank because it increases your signature size and uses a ton of capacitor very fast, so despite being much faster then AB its worse overall in many, but not all situations.
If you get webbed, target painted, all this stuff.
You will need to prioritize targets. Kill stuff that drains your capacitor 1st, webs you 2nd, other types of EWAR 3rd. Then go for ones that do most damage to you or move out tank them) and do small targets instead.
Hope this helps you some, I’ll send you some ammo and stuff in the game too, to the character you are posting on, but you will have to come to Jita 4-4 to pick it up so you should get it later today. Free of charge. Once there you migth want to bookmark the station as well as make some undock and dock bookmarks. This is important. Its the biggest trade hub in New Eden and I guarantee you these will come handy.
Hope this helps
Yep, that’s perfect (post 61, expand list).
I’d still replace a BCS for a damage control at least for a few missions maybe, and if grid is short maybe drop to the compact AB. Check you’ve got or have queued adv weapon upgrades Yuri (req weapon upgrades IV).
Ok well, I’ve done the mission but I wasn’t at all comfortable with the ship. So I flew away and tried picking them off one by one wich took a long time. But I got out and completed it. I used Cristl’s fit because I couldn’t fit the 2 F-S9’s.
Now I got curious about the pyfa thing someone mentioned. Apparently something about API key’s changed some time ago wich makes setting it up a lot more complicated. It keeps sending me to some website wich explains that some old system has been dropped and there’s something new that has taken it’s place (ESI). So I’ve been trying to search for that with no luck yet though.
Thanks for that post Fluffy Moe. Maybe I’ll switch back and try it another time together with the notes you gave on it. It’s pretty interesting.
Have to take a break now.
Overtanking by sacrificing DPS is rather undesirable. Caracal’s DPS from HMLs already lacking and you dont want to decrease it even further. Proper range control and active tank should be plenty even for lvl 3 missions as is.
Fit one of them and 2 active resist modules against damage type that you will be facing in the mission.
To import character into Pyfa:
Start pyfa, find “EVE SSO” in the top control bar, select “manage characters” in drop down menu. Pless “Add character” in the window that will pop up. You will be redirected to eve login screen, login with your account and choose character to permit Pyfa to access some information (read skills, read/write fittings).
Then in Pyfa: “Window” > character editor > create a new character (profile)> name it > select imported character from “EVE SSO” tab > apply/ok > you are ready. Dont forget to set whether your character is alpha or omega in the skills tab.
Yo, I sent you a Caracal, its fitted, free, got ammo in its cargo bay with a couple spare drones and things, but I forgot to set contract duration so it maybe only 1 day. If it expires i’ll resend tomorrow with longer duration. You can accept it anytime its available then pick it up whenever you feel like.
You’re preaching to the choir. Try to put yourself in the guy’s shoes. He’s new and lost a Moa on a level one mission. Or was it SOE arc? Anyway, I stand by a DC for a few missions.
OP just said that it felt too slow. He was using your fit.
Well I can see another Caracal at Jita but I flew over there and it doesn’t have any fitting or any ammo or drones or anything really. Just a new Caracal.
check your contracts.
I contracted it to you. Open business, contracts, 1st tab. Also, ammo and stuff is inside ships cargo hold. Its possible that some modules might have gotten moved to its cargo hold during contract transport. Though it should have stayed fitted by default.
Once you receive it, it will be in your ship hangar, make it active, set its name and then take everything out of cargo, into station item hangar so you can see it all easier, refit the ship if necessary.
Yeah I got it now. And I don’t think I said anywhere that a Caracal was slow. Just that the mission took long. Well anyway I’ll try the fit from post 61 and the one from Fluffy Moe tomorrow.
i meant slow as in “Doing missions slowly”, which is usually the case when you have poor (character)skills and/or ship with subpar dps.
What sort of Composition were the enemies? Rough ratio of frigs to destroyers etc.
It might have been slow because of what I said about heavy missiles having crapplication problems.
If there’s mostly light ships maybe rapid lights, set one launcher per frig, would clear the room the fastest. I haven’t seen an L2 in ages though.
Its all good. You are low skilled, expect them to take a long time. Things will get better, take it easy for now. Get hang of the game and ship mechanics, go slow. Once you can do around 350 DPS and handle tanking better, you should go do the SOE epic arc, its very good for newbie characters. you can start it much lower but the final fight may be rough or undoable if your skills are a bit too low, so its better to wait a bit.
Bro, you are slow, don’t worry. Its not the ships, its your character, low SP. You have low AB skills, low ship agility skills, low warp skills, low missile support skills, for example: Rate of Fire, low everything.
Literally, all your low skills will grow and make it much faster, jsut don’t try to go for content that is out of your league just yet. Take it easy.
These guys above, the stuff they put down about speed tanking basics, transversals, fits, all that. Its all the basics that is good to learn on lowbie missions. Focus on this while your skills keep ticking up.
And like one dude above said, when you get a bit more and can do some L3s, go the SOE epic arc, I forgot its name.
Yuri
You got a bit unlucky getting The Blockade and very long range defenses on your first mission.
You might remember hearing “Burning Down the Hive” and “Dagan” are kniown to be “ship killers” in the first level of the SoE Arc.
The same is true for the first time you meet high(ish) DPS weapons that far outrange you.
It’s a problem in matching your mission tactics with your ship fit to deal with a new mission profile. A good “general purpose” fit won’t usually be ideal.
All right, so…
I got the fit from Fluffy Moe. And it had better range, within 20km. Wich is good. And it had a lot of fire power IMO (around 200dps instead of 110 maybe for the other one). And I saw somewhere that you needed 200dps for Dagan. Anyway… I had confidence, and I went in.
Starting with Burning Down the Hive. And I barely made it. But I got out. And I defeated them. My shield was almost destroyed and my capacitator was running low… But in the end I managed to make it out alive. And basically… I did the rest of the Epic Arc missions.
And I completed Dagan, lol. I thought perhaps go through the rest of the missions cause of the pay being a lot better than other missions. And then there were 2 hard missions after eachother. One to get a guy named Parthus (wich is where I stranded previously). And then Dagan himself. And the reason why I did them is because I remember being able to warp out so I could give it a try, wich was different from Burning Down the Hive. And then in the end Dagan was pretty easy actually. I had more trouble with Parthus than Dagan.
So yeah that’s what I’ve been doing today lol. Thanks for the fits and the help. I’ll try and see what I can do with these level 2 missions but yeah… gotta think about what I want to do next. I have joined a corp already, maybe ask them what they’re doing.
This is the next step
