Linux Steam Launcher - Game asks for login details, doesn't accept EVE account credentials

Decided to do my regular check if you allowed us Linux nerds to play Vanguard, but now I got a hurdle even before the EAC. Even though I selected the character and account in the launcher, game asks me to login, but doesn’t accept my EVE account credentials (which work in EVE launcher).

Tried getting the log, but nothing seems to be written by the client, and launcher loglite doesn’t show anything after starting the client.

Same problem here, I think. Vanguard’s prompting me for login info and just quietly failing without any error message.

Same issue here. What a shame, really wish I could participate in the alpha.

The other tests were no problem to launch, nor did I have any issues. Tried it with Experimental, 10.2, GE10-* and cachyos’ builds of Proton all to the same issues. I thought maybe Pihole might have been blocking an address but that wasn’t the case either.

Don’t think it super matters based on the error, but I am running the closed-source nvidia drivers currently on Archlinux using Cloudflare as an upstream DNS.

Same here, computer said no. :slightly_frowning_face:

Just forwarding a workaround from Discord. I’ve tested it, and it works for me

  • Go to your Steam library,

  • Add non-steam game,

  • /path/to/steam/steamapps/compatdata/8500/pfx/drive_c/CCP/EVE/eve-vanguard/live/WindowsClient/start_protected_game.exe,

  • Right-click > Properties,

  • Rename to “EVE Vanguard” to help maintain what little sanity you’ll have left by the end of this.,

The next steps will have to be repeated every so often. Repeat when you’re no longer able to launch Vanguard from what you just made

  • Start EVE Online,

  • Start EVE Vanguard from the launcher,

  • Open a terminal while you wait,

  • When you get to the login screen in EVE Vanguard, run ps aux | grep vanguard,

  • Find the entry containing “EVEVanguardClient-Win64-Shipping.exe”,

  • Copy EVERYTHING after “.exe” from this entry,

  • Go back to the “EVE Vanguard” you just made in Steam,

  • Paste everything you copied into Launch Options,

  • Close the Shortcut window you were just editing and quit the EVE Vanguard client you just kept running,

  • Launch EVE Vanguard from Steam
