Loading and docking times

@Rexxar_Santaro pretty spot on, the system was bought in 2018, yeah i think ill look to replace the HDD, i actually have 2, i may keep one as I have a lot of music in FLAC format which takes up a fair amount of space, my 3 HDD are 3tb and 3tb respectively, booth are over half full. AV is Norton and i have CCleaner (although the free one so may upgrade), thanks for the inputs, it has been really helpful

Your PC “case” is interesting because years ago, circa 2010-2011, I had a similar PC setup. I was very busy and ordered a PC from a random local retailer. I didn’t pay attention to the hardware, because I was very busy, and he built it from random components for maximum profit. That also was a time of hybrid PCs setups, designed and manufactured between 2007-2009, - from PCI, PCI-X and AGP to PCIe; from CD/DVD to USB flash drives; from ATA to SATA. The PC was quite powerful and I was able to run the most powerful apps then. At the same time the computer had a big issue - he couldn’t run video card (via PCIe) and HDD (via SATA2) simultaneously. The CPU or mobo chipset couldn’t synchronize the streams in “parallel” IDK why. Every time when my HDD was busy (in read/write mode or had an antivirus running) the video card GPU just stopped working in both 2D or 3D modes and no matter what load was on CPU or GPU at the time. I suspect that the CPU was unable (or had no internal modules) to read and buffer SATA data from the chipset and he used the video card PCIe internal modules for that. Here’s an internal structure scheme of a random CPU:

Few additional suggestions. Put your trusted apps like EVE.exe into the trusted list of your antivirus. Therefore it will not scan all activity of EVE app. Three EVE clients will generate a lot of txt files from combat logs, corp chat, private chat and local chat channels, especially if you hang at Jita HUB for hours. Sometimes my EVE client has lags on changing sessions and to fix this I do a fast game restart. It helps.

Check with GPU-Z how many CPU PCIe lanes your GPU is using because your SSD M2 will share them with your video card. One the image below the video card is using 16 Gen 1.1 PCIe lanes:

What to connect where take a look at the image below:

i cano download apps and loook at the stats but ill admit the meaning of them and anything (what i would consider) deeply technical is beyond me, these are my figures though

image

The most important stats are:

  • Technology. It indicates how much power your GPU will consume. The lower the better.
  • Bus interface. It indicates how well a video card is fitted for CPU and motherboard. Ideally the values from both sides from symbol @ must be identical and shows that data exchange between RAM, CPU and GPU is optimal.
  • Bus width. It shows the memory chip architecture on your card. The higher the better.
  • Memory size. The higher the better.
  • Bandwidth. It indicates the overall data transfer speed between your video card memory and GPU. The higher the better.

PCIe x8 4.0 @ x8 3.0 means that your video card is ready to use 8 PCIe Gen 4.0 lanes (15.7 GB/s), but instead is using 8 PCIe Gen 3.0 lanes (7.9 GB/s) due to CPU limitations.

Just compare your stats with the stats of the best video card ever made. The GTX 1080 Ti, being a 8 year old card, can compete with modern RTX 3070 and RX 6700 XT. The card has an 11 GB 352 bit bus with a bandwidth of 542 GB/s!

OK,so it does seem that the CPU is the limiting factor here, at least to some degree.

I guess for now ill have to suck it up as i cannot afford a new machine, and not sure if a new CPU (although expesnive on its own) would fit it with the other things. For example, looking at ebuyer (I am in the UK so this is one of the sites I look at) the cheapest i7 is ÂŁ285 (about $362 US) and i dont even know if my mobo could take it. or it it did would it solve that particular issue.

I see. Your budget is limited and you have no clue how to fix it without extra expenditures. That CPU is very expensive for some reason based on its level. Check all the posts above. Everybody suggested upgrading to a SSD drive as the best and cheapest solution.

I don’t want you to misunderstand my points of view which will turn into bad decisions/buy orders. So, let me put some “final points” together here.

Your PC setup is i7 8700 / Gigabyte Z390 UD / DDR 4 32GB / 250GB M2 SSD / (X)TB HDD SATA3 / AMD RX 6600.

The video card is the most expensive component here, it has enough power and we don’t want to replace it. Its interface is PCIe x8 4.0 @ x8 3.0, which is nonoptimal BUT enough for EVE Online gaming. It’s a constant. Therefore, considering we already upgraded the HDD to SATA 3 SSD, the only way to upgrade the system is via CPU. We can do it directly or indirectly.

Direct path. Your Gigabyte Z390 UD supports up to i9-9900 Gen 9 CPU and no better. The i9 series are designed for workstations not gaming and mostly it will not give huge performance in gaming. Therefore, the best desktop CPU you can put on a Z390 UD is i7-9700K. This CPU was very expensive and remains so. In the UK its price varies between $290-330. You can find some used models for $150-200 on ebay or Aliexpress, but it’s a risk also. Important! The i7 9700K also supports PCIe Gen 3 and no more, so your PCIe x8 4.0 @ x8 3.0 will remain the same.

Indirect path. You can upgrade to a new budget platform. There are good Intel and AMD variants. All setups below support PCIe Gen4 bus, SATA3 and DDR4 RAM. Therefore, your GPU interface will be PCIe x8 4.0 @ x8 4.0.

AMD:

  • ($100) Ryzen 5600 (X) / ($90) B550M (requires BIOS update) - Total: $190

Intel:

  • ($90) i3 12100F / ($129) B660M - Total: $219
  • ($150) i5 12400F / ($139) B760M - Total: $289

Top budget AMD AM4 B550M motherboards:

  • AsRock B550M PRO4 $106;
  • Gigabyte B550M DS3 AM4 $89;
  • MSI PRO B550M AM4 $119;
  • Asus TUF B550M-PLUS $159.

Top budget Intel LGA 1700 B660M/760M motherboards:

  • MSI PRO B660M-A LGA1700 $129;
  • Gigabyte B760M Gaming X AX $139;
  • ASRock B760 Pro RS/D4 $129.

The direct path will limit your future video card upgradings. The RX 6600 is the best one you can install in Z390 mobo. Otherwise you’ll face hardware “downranking” until complete incompatibility. The indirect path allows future video card upgrading up to RTX 4080 / RX 7000 series. I mentioned just the top components and you can find cheaper variants. As I mentioned above, ask your local retailers for available devices in stock and compatibility!

Top budget compatible video cards are: RX 6700XT / RTX 3060Ti / ARC A770.

My decade old @Iceacid_Frostpacker level computer was getting a little tatty, so I hit the boxing day sales and built a new one:

Mobo is an ASRock B650 Pro RS with a Ryzen 7800 X3D
The game drive is a WD Black SN850X plugged into the “Blazing M.2 (PCIE Gen 5x4)” port.
The C drive is the same but in the “Hyper M.2 (PCIE Gen 4x4)” port.
Graphics card is a Radeon RX 7800 XT

Everything in the game is instant and stutter free. From logging in eight characters at once, docking and undocking , jumping through gates, warping, etc

Watch for sales, take away all the fancy crap and reuse your case, power supply, and anything else you can salvage and you could probably build this for under 2k.

I asked mom for 2k for a new computer with lights, but she said we already have a computer at home. :cry:

Thanks @Rexxar_Santaro for all your input on this subject, I am certainly armed with more knowledge than i was at the beginning.

I feel both honoured and joy that you had responded to my comment and will take in your advice as currently I can only use 4 accounts at a time were I use to be fine with 19

Currently this is what she looks like

You may tease my pc all you wish.

BTW did you notice how @Mr_Epeen lights are blue? :thinking:

Yes. So he is in the blue corner and you’re in the red.

  • Does this mean you two will fight at the Sun?
  • And if yes will you use your alts to gank him and earn victory for your main?
  • If yes will he do the same?
  • If yes will the victor be decided by the amount of alts each side can multibox (n+1)?
  • And in general will some third-party (solo or group) show up to dunk you both?

So many possibilities. :eyes: :thinking: :blush:

These sneaky after post edits are so hard to catch sometimes. :stuck_out_tongue: :sweat_smile:

Not sneaky at all I always use / for 1st edit followed by /// etc for adding extra replies

I think it is a save way of editing though I think no one cares.

I was referring to the fact that the system does not notify you of edits only replies, being quoted and such, thus if already read the post then when you add additional stuff to your post later the other might not see it unless stumbles upon it for one reason or another.

I had read and thought about your comments regarding @Mr_Epeen and I mentioned above that I will follow his path of upgrading my pc this year in Y125 and will be ready for any match up between us in y126

That is why I had bookedmarked your comment as to guess you will be the facilitator?

You can run one client fine already no? You don’t need more for a duel. :wink:

Unless you want to crack a nut that contains 4500 PLEX. :smirk: :innocent:

You know there is more than one Frostpacker.

So this is very much on topic as undocking times do matter.
