Local Comms Blackout - Discussion Thread

Simple fix WOULD have been a not insignificant delay on anoms respawning. However nowadays the rampant botting would just cause people to miss out on sites and need to mine elsewhere. That upkeep thing on caps seems interesting. You are canonically maintaining a crew of thousands of people for free after all.

I wasn’t able to log in the few times when local chat died accidentally, but I do remember the excitement those events generated.

It’s already the 2nd week of July!
Blackout now +48hours CCP

Also, if structures are introduced to restore local, a mistake in my opinion, I will spend much effort taking those down.

Hmmm, I thought the game was supposed to be about the challenge? I guess I was wrong

Well added player structures for local makes logical sense. It would also add a new tactical target for attacking fleets to deal with, and also another item defending fleets would have to protect.

As a tactical gameplay item it falls nicely into the area stealth players would like. Come into system take out local comms towers and then find enemy targets to takeout in the local blackout, as they’ll be focused on local than system corp channels.

I do see that it would be a tactical target but I think it would simply undo the loss of instant local, rendering the whole blackout moot.

While those comms structures are up, it’ll still be the perfect early warning system that local currently is.

If they are easy to take down, they’ll be easy to put up too; even if they aren’t cheap they’ll be spammed everywhere just look at the citadels.

See but at the same time it wouldn’t make sense that someone not in your alliance gets added to local. All ships have CONCORD tracking equipment in their design so there’s no resisting getting added to CONCORD’s local network, but Upwell’s custom network from one of their structures? Maybe it can “pick up” a faint rogue comms signature after enough time but it shouldn’t be able to force a connection and reveal someone’s identity.

And if anyone doesn’t think the Dev’s don’t read this crap inch by inch, think again.

I wont rat him out, but I think the player base should read more. I suggest you start with

It’d only work if they have about the same HP as those ratting things you drop that peeps can steal from.
And then would come the problem
they’d drop that ■■■■ in a max spawned room and anyone who tried to remove it would just die. So they’d have to make it so it can’t be in deadspace pockets or anywhere rats can spawn.
The best module people can use it their finger. punch dscan and use local for GFs and greetings. Space is dangerous, ships shouldn’t be broadcasting to the universe.

Now that is a thought worth expanding on. maybe it can’t tell who they are, just that some ship is in system. Might be your buddy in the miner, might not be.
Only thing is I still see this being usable by bots and afk dinguses. They can just do the same thing we do. Post up eyes, watch dscan.

Better, more effective and easier to just not have a comms structure thing.

Remember when Eve was like this?

yep. why code what is already in game. be your own structure. press v
:stuck_out_tongue:
However since we’re already swimming in oceans of salty tears, imagine there will be more rain coming.
All these people that think they’re supposed to be safe in null, and all that.
Now if they could only remove the intel bots, it’d be glorious.
Looking at you goonies

@Herzog_Wolfhammer
Yep. Still mostly is. Just people got all serious.
Then there’s this

Well, looks like both the Sorrow & Joy sentiments about this thread topic is done now.

@CCP_Falcon Oh the SALT is real! I believe this to be one of the greatest events to happen in New Eden since the total upgrade of the POS to the UpWell structures. This is long been much needed to balance risk Vs rewards, now those out in NS are at risk. No more RMT botting, No more 3rd party intel channels, No more AFK/Semi AFK mining/ratting. Total Collapse of the Blue Donut = More Content. The market will make a drastic overall re-balance (could be a good thing or it may be catastrophic). This black out could/should open the door for new structures such as a Intel Network Array that shows the number of pilots in local but still doesn’t show who or something like it.
Now with that said I do see how CCP and New Eden could and most likely will take a massive hit from NS players finally WINNING @ EVE, because they can no longer plex their account(s) easily (unless they are willing to take the risk of the new and improved NS) .

Kudos CCP, I’m going to hang around to see how this plays out! I hope for the best
NOW JUST STOP NERFING SHIPS SOOOO HARD
