You’d have to be very unlucky to be caught by anything but smartbombs. 1.7 align is technically instawarp, BUT 3k scan res is technically instalock. I have locked asteros with a 3k scan res ship (on my side mind you) only to have them warp away as if nothing happened. Speaking to the pilot afterwards he stated that he was not locked on his side. Server tick fuckery is real.
You need 4K scan res to get a point, and even then it depends a lot on ping and tick.

Especially against pointer that knows what he is doing (prepared overview with brainless click spam - so the only ship that shows on it is the target once it de-gatecloak).
I have doubts even about <1s ships, not that there is many of them (e.g. a bit blinged astero + nomads and em-705). The video showing egg point I watched a while ago seemed suspicious. Actually maybe I should finally test it myself with someone.
<1s you can’t really catch it (other than sb) - because by the time it shows on overview it is already in warp
No. By the time it shows on overview it is already aligning(like any ship that aligns to exit gate cloak), so if no server hiccup at the end of the tick where it showed it is already in warp, while the server received your "lockhim ! "request.
So after the first tick you receive information from server : acquired lock AND he’s gone. So you can’t even activate your preloaded point.
if it is a 2s align ship and you have enough str plus fast reaction + low ping, at tick 0 you receive information it decloacks and start locking it, at tick 1 you receive information that you locked it (and your preloaded point activates), at tick 2 he is pointed.
This is also possible if the server has a hiccup on the tick -1 and thus makes tick 0 shorter (this prevents the target from being in warp at tick 1), if you are caught with a <1s align ship you should make a reimbursement request.
