Id love to get a few ships back then if this were true. My experiences have said differently though, both on the fire hydrant and the dog sides.

Really? I find it hard to believe. I never lost a pod after gank nor when undocking from Jita and warping somewhere and I do that decently often.
That because the victim had to re align before warp.
pod is insta warp from standstill.
Think of this more in the sense of making it as difficult as possible to get caught. In 99% of all cases, it should be fine.
And Murphy’s law states, that it only goes sideways, whenever it is the least expected and most upsetting.
That’s what I’m saying though. Even if the align time is slightly over 3 seconds, most of the time it should be fine. Close enough is usually good enough. Your odds of screwing up and dying anyway with perfect align time are roughly the same as the gatecamper’s odds of perfect execution and catching you with 4 or 5 second align time. Fact is that gatecamping is really boring. People start chatting and drinking and become unfocused.
We all know? No we don’t
With high sensor strength, help of remote sensor boosters, low ping to the server and a good reaction time it is possible to instalock sub 2 second align ships.
You can’t however catch a sub 1 second align ship like the hecate which is insta warp. .2 seconds is not insta warp.
