Machiavelian for CSM21 - More ships in space, more ships exploding, and continuing the work of CSM20

More ships in space, more ships exploding, and continuing the work of CSM20.

About Me

I started playing EVE 20 years ago, came back four years ago, and have been hooked ever since. I flew with Pandemic Horde right up until the bitter end. There I was a home defense FC, a capital umbrella FC, a helper in the Newbean Initiative, and part of alliance leadership and administration.

Horde’s collapse sent me to lowsec, a part of space I had always avoided because that’s where the “scary” pirates were. It turned out to be a whole new playstyle and a window into the challenges facing a large part of our playerbase. (The enormous dreadbrawls have been a big plus.) Now I’m experiencing the game as a line member, and I finally get to relax!

Each role taught me something different. Helping new players showed me where the game frustrates rookies and veterans alike. FCing umbrella and subcap fleets taught me how complex engagements actually work. Leadership taught me about the people problems that come with any large organization.

Experience: nullsec and lowsec, capital PVE and PVP, whaling and counter-whaling, home defense and cross-fleet coordination, subcap and Rorqual mining, corp and alliance management, and the new player experience.

What I Did on CSM20

Working with Itaer, youngpuke2, kshal, and other members of the Council, I advocated for:

  • Balancing force projection for large groups through Ansiblexes
  • Changes to unidentified Drifter wormholes to curb alpha account abuse and reward real exploration
  • More niche uses for carriers, and fighter changes to make them less oppressive en masse
  • Improvements to the capital PVE ecosystem and more opportunities for capital engagements
  • Module and ship balance, including BLOPs
  • A better new player experience
  • Breaking up the nullsec status quo

What I’ll Advocate for on CSM21

I favor reasonable, iterative changes that don’t cancel out one playstyle for the benefit of another.

Fix sov. Most of nullsec is locked in a three-way blue donut. Sov mechanics have lagged behind every other change to null, and the current iteration rewards sprawl and stagnation. Even small changes would breathe new life into null and give us more record-breaking fights over real objectives.

Make empty space worth living in. Since Equinox, large swaths of nullsec sit unused because the distribution of power and workforce leaves them with no strategic or resource value. Sensible resource adjustments would create new conflict drivers and give smaller groups somewhere to live that isn’t completely desolate.

Better mining.

  • Waste is… a waste. Cut it drastically or remove it, and let crystals do something more interesting. Those teeny tiny rocks would finally produce some ore.
  • Bring back capital mining, within reason. I don’t want Rorquals Online, but a Rorqual in space is content for everyone, including the people who kill it.
  • Buff Expedition Frigates and Porpoises. Solo, small group, and danger mining deserve ships worth their cost and training time, and Porpoises should offer real defensive benefits to a mining fleet.

More capitals in space, and more of them dying. I’m an umbrella FC who wants more whaling. The current meta is lackluster: form a huge Kiki fleet or bring Redeemers, and hope. I want more reasons for capitals to undock, leave tether, and be engageable. Cheaper dread and battleship hulls already gave us bigger brawls and escalations. Every ship that explodes means work for miners and industrialists and fun for everyone else.

Remove or rework Mercenary Dens. For sov holders they are an annoyance with no meaningful control or monitoring. They should be fun gameplay or they should go.

Quality of life.

  • Multiboxing: Multiboxers are the backbone of EVE and a huge share of CCP’s subscriptions, yet the game keeps being optimized for single accounts while multiboxing stability suffers.
  • Corp and alliance tools: Freelance jobs and corp projects missed how modern groups actually organize. Leaders need granular in-game controls, not more dependence on third-party tools that are a stumbling block for new players.
  • Missions: The NPE funnels new players into missions that pay like it’s 15 years ago, demand enormous SP to scale, and hand out LP that can’t be sold without advanced knowledge. Update the rewards, diversify the objectives, and point new players toward the rest of the game.

Why You Should Vote for Machiavelian

CSM20 was an especially productive Council, and I built bridges with every community represented on it. I want to keep building on that.

The CSM is bigger than any in-game war or rivalry. I’m running to represent all of New Eden, not a single group or perspective. I’m a zealous advocate, and I will put in the work. A vote for me is a vote for positive change, a growing playerbase, and an EVE that lasts another 20 years.

Talk to Me!

I want to hear from every corner of the community, not just my alliance mates, and I’ll keep players in the loop as much as I can. Discord is best: @sierra415, or “Machiavelian” on the EVE-Official server. DM me your ideas, feedback, and problems.

if you are going to try and have missions updated… can you please at least give the option to run only anti faction missions? yes i know it will screw up standings.. but this should be an option.

Hello @Machiavelian, what about this?

  • The connection between EVE Online and EVE Vanguard

Do you have any expectations what that could be, how it could work? I am aware there is nothing tangible yet, but it’s rather inevitable if I red FC correctly.
