MacOS 26 - Fullscreen black bars?

Annoyingly though I’m on an M1 with no notch… Just big black bars now it seems!

EVE on M1 when CCP first released a OSX native client was peak EVE. I think someone else in game I know has a mac, I’ll see if its a no notch mac and check what their experience is.

I’m on a Mac Studio with external monitor so, obviously, no notch. I’ve got the black bars as well. At this point, since it’s clear CCP isn’t going to fix the problem, I’ve basically learned to ignore it. Luckily, the bezel around my monitor is also black, so the top and bottom bars visually blend with that.

I see it too, maybe you can use photoshop to get rid of it.

If I set it to “Fixed Window” the black bars go away. It’s less than ideal because any time you switch to a different window the dock and menu bar appear, but at least the resolution is right.

I’ll give this a go today!

This is because the client doesn’t understand your resolution, though it should. This issue is years-old. I play in fullscreen mode. It sometimes launches in the incorrect resolution, so I switch to fixed window and back to fullscreen and then it understands the resolution it’s supposed to have. I don’t know why it does this, but it’s easier to fix it on my own whenever this happens than file a bug report.

@Meridan_Night Yes this used to work for me too, however it doesn’t seem to fix the fullscreen black bars anymore.

If we don’t raise bug reports when we encounter a bug, what’s the point of having a bug reporting system?

Works for me. Does your client resolution match your screen resolution?

Well I think I’ve found a workaround, though you need to do it each time you launch Eve.

  • Under System Settings I set my Mac’s resolution to 2560 x 1600
  • Opened Eve
  • Changed resolution in game to 2048 x 1280 (my desired resolution in game)
  • Under system settings, selected the default resolution.

This worked once, then the second time, a variation of the above was required. Your results may vary.

Happy flying everyone!

6 months have passed. Issue is not resolved yet.

Yes and I still haven’t received a reply to my tickets either.

For now, switching the game and system screen resolutions back and forth at least temporarily fixes the issue.

For me (on macOS 15) this sometimes happens when I start multiple clients at once. It always goes away when I switch V-Sync to whatever option it current isn’t.

I haven’t noticed this, but I’m running in 5k with 3x windowed clients.

Yes luckily it doesn’t appear to happen windowed.

Seeing as I play in full screen, I have to jiggle my system resolution and the game resolution to fix it on each launch.

That sucks. All I can say is once you go Windowed you never go back!
