To go back to the OPās intial question, before the thread got, ahem, sidetracked slightly, I fly a Kronos as my primary mission and event ship in High Sec. I have a full high grade Amulet clone, 2 beefy abyssal plates, decent energised resistance membranes and 2 Abyssal Mag Stabs for dps, fully cap stabe and 2 utility mid slots for Web, Grappler, Tracking Comps or Target Painter - depending on the mission. It rocks around 75k raw armor HP and has a total of about 475k ehp in Bastion.
Is that way way too much tank for L4 mission running? Absolutely! After all, itās rocking equivalent ehp to my tanky Orca! Is it because my ship is in any way threatened by non-diamond, non-trig npcs? Nope. Itās because this is a sandbox and people like to blow up Marauders, either for profit or for lulz.
Do I regret so much tank at the expense of arguably better performance? Nope.
When the 10 man gank squad ambushed me in an event site during the Crimson Harvest, did they get me below 75% armor? Also no. I Bastioned up as they landed, locked 'em up and hit fire when they went flashy red (always keep your safeties green!). Got me some nice shiny killmarks since I killed most of them before Concord arrived. So looted their wrecks (100+ mil in T2 modules) and went on with my day.
Is my Kronos unkillable? Nope, nothing in Eve is. Does the combination of tank, behaviour (watching local and checking d-scan regularly, using travel fits when going more than my local constellation), and situational awareness and strategic use of Bastion (to GTFO if local spikes, and 20+ attack battlecruiser pop up on d-scan) keep me ārelativelyā safe? Yes, but thereās always the chance of bad luck, bad timing and bad internet could mess up my day.
Am I posting on my main which has my Kronos pilot and pod? Of course not! Iām sat in Jita like all good posting alts!
Have I made enough during the event and from casual mission running to replace my Kronos, itās mods and my juicy clone? Also yes.
Donāt fly what you canāt afford to lose.

Itās important to note, that the fits are always context dependent.
What may be a good fit for a place and time, may be bad fit for another place, another time. Even for the same activity (say L4s)
Therefore, itās good to also have a spare ship to fit when, for example, you know a bunch of gankers are waiting for you.
But if you know there is nobody, then you can pick up a faster fit.

People often waste too much time with all this āefficiencyā thinking. I mean, one could do it just for the fun of PyFa-warrioring, and thats okay, but in reality a simple T2/named fitted Marauder that maybe offers 20-30 Million ISK loot for gankers while having around a 100k eHP passive defense + a 1000 dps aktive tank is more than enough to run all L4. It makes the ship a very unlucrative target to gank and will get all content done in pretty nice running times. Tbh I have run L4s in 5B blingfits and there isnāt that much time difference in most missions, so I sold all the bling and just use cheap fits for quite a while.
To come back to the topic: A nice clone to support your ship is always a good idea, especially since you can perfectly protect it by having a brick-fitted Assaultfrig in the Escape bay that makes it virtually impossible to gank the clone as well. So a full rack of +5% and some Set-Implants are a rather riskless investment. If a HG-Amulet / Nirvana Set can safe you from an unexpected āfor the lulz gankā, fine. Asklepian/Crystal sets are not really needed. I personally prefer a cheap Genolution set for the nice and practical fitting/cap benefits.

But if you have, say 100B, why would you only have one fit to do all, when you can have various fits that each perform better in their own activity ?
Itās not about having ONE bling fit. Itās about having dedicated fits.
Also 5B is pretty cheap usual. marauder is 1b5, GXTXL is 1b2, PATMSH is 1b. add 500MN for 500M, 4 damage mods for 400M, SBA for 100M, 2 rigs for 100M , You donāt even mutate your stuff and you already are 4.8B. No implant. No officer fit. mutating can quadruple the price if you want something good, Ć20 if you want āvery goodā.
