We are planning a masstest on Singularity on 24 July, from 17:00 to 19:00 UTC for a follow-up test to the smoke and fire effects that we tested out last month. There sure was smoke and fire, and your help really helped us improve performance. Now we’re back for round two to give it another go!
What exactly is being tested?
When ships enter hull damage, increasing amounts of smoke and fire trails will appear on ships based on ship size and hull damage amount.
We want to test the performance and stability of these changes with a wider audience and need your help! We want the ships to be smoking, but not the servers (or your PCs!)
How to connect to Singularity for this test:
Change the server from Tranquility to Singularity in the bottom right corner of the launcher and log in as normal.
Join the in-game channel masstesting. Instructions are in the MOTD.
Move yourself to FD-MLJ (type /moveme in any chat window and then select FD-MLJ the list)
Join fleet W or X through fleet finder
Wait for the test to start for further instructions
What else should I know?
Run the highest graphical settings your system is able to
Large Skill Injectors will be placed on the market in FD-MLJ.
We strongly recommend updating to the latest GPU drivers. For macOS, the latest OS version that you are able to run.
There is no set release date for Tranquillity
Test server rules still apply, which can be found here:
Singularity will be open from 16:30 UTC on 24 July. If you cannot attend at 17:00 on the dot, no worries - so long as Singularity is up you’ll be able to contribute.
Since the new station environments, these graphical updates have done nothing but increase the GPU load for zero improvement in gameplay.
In DX11 or DX12? There are a plethora of issues right now where the official CCP fix is to drop back to older Direct X API with no explanation as to why one day EVE worked and the next it did not. On Mac OS, there as a botched update that guaranteed the system would crash if high quality textures was turned on. Exactly how long did it take for the bug with T3C causing the game to lag or crash take to be resolved?
There are some Nvidia users who would point out this conventional wisdom has had its flaws of late.
For all its criticism, the OSX ecosystem does an excellent job of filtering out a litany of ‘update driver/update windows/disable antivirus’ tech support slop when the root cause is ‘bad update’ to the application.
Whilst I am not on the CSM, there is not a shadow of a doubt if they asked the players they represented if there was a preference between more chrome and implementation of QOL changes what the outcome would be.
I have to play on lowest settings possible with the last update, still have my computer shut itself off every now and then. I am certainly not up to having more graphics. hopefully it can be disabled.
You do realize there are different teams that work on different things right? The graphics team is wanting to add all this (assuming them) while another team deals with other issues.
Then the solution is simple. CCP needs to add in an option for low resolution graphics with no thrills or features for all mac users. That way, you all can play on the lowest settings while the rest of us enjoy improved graphics. Everyone wins.
Ultra
High
Medium
Low
Mac User
Maybe this can be the very low resolution setting for a mining barge in an ice field:
(Skip to 2:11 if you only care to watch the UI only mode demonstration.)
Now all that CCP has to do is add a launch option to start in this mode.
And maybe if you start in that mode disable all the other graphical features (thus lock you in that mode and have the renderer completely negate any other features), that way nothing else will be rendered beyond the basics so should work for everyone and have the client run in a resource conserving mode.
The beauty of this is that mode is already implemented so should be pretty easy to add as a launch option feature along with limiting the client to that during that session.
When are you folks at CCP going to learn old school graphics are the best? If not, why is Minecraft so popular? Also many of us don’t use the 3D to play this game.
The teams should be working together. This is the exactly the kind of siloed thinking that leads to the application team wanting to alter data without informing the database team to update the schema, then users filling a ton of bugs when the fields no longer populate and the two groups finger pointing at each other while the users suffer.
Or an option to enable it when entering certain systems, ie Jita.
It was first mentioned and showcased at FF’23 before Ship SKINR deployment and then again at FF’25.
I’ll lookup both streams and will add links to particular video timestamps, in this post

@CPPC_T_amber, here you are:
FF’23 Day 2, it was said it will be delivered within 3 years starting in 2024, so it should be delivered hopefully until 2027 https://www.twitch.tv/videos/1932939097?t=3h32m0s
if you slide aprox. 5 minutes back, you can also see what additional personalisation effects are planned for structures
