We are planning a masstest on Singularity on 12 June, from 17:00 to 19:00 UTC
What exactly is being tested?
When ships enter hull damage, increasing amounts of smoke and fire trails will appear on ships based on ship size and hull damage amount.
We want to test the performance and stability of these changes with a wider audience and need your help!
Another change we have included on Singularity is an optimization to controller update frequency based on distance from the camera:
If an object is using a controller to drive it’s states and animations, it will update less frequently when far away from the camera, and more frequently when close to the camera.
We are aiming to find any edge cases where systems may break which rely on extremely frequent controller updates, as well as any graphical issues around state changes and animations.
We have also optimized mining turrets, by combining two state controllers into one, removing some unused fluff, and refactoring how the mining turret controllers determine their playback to be more performant during mining.
How to connect to Singularity for this test:
Change the server from Tranquility to Singularity in the bottom right corner of the launcher and log in as normal.
“Because we need a safe space to test if a fleet of mining barges can really take down a Titan without losing our main ships!”
“Because how else will we figure out the perfect ratio of cats to spaceships? We need Singularity for science!”
“Because we all secretly want to see what happens when you warp 500 ships into a tiny asteroid belt at once. It’s like a cosmic traffic jam!”
“Because testing new features on the live server is like trying out your new recipe during a dinner party—let’s not risk the main course!”
“Because where else can we test the theory that a fleet of rookie ships can survive a wormhole expedition? It’s for… educational purposes!”
“Because we need a place to see if we can fit an entire fleet with civilian modules and still be effective. Spoiler: probably not!”
“Because who doesn’t love a good old-fashioned ‘Let’s see how many ships we can cram into a single station’ experiment? Singularity was perfect for that!”
“Because we need a playground to test if drones can successfully mine a moon. We know it won’t work, but we want to see it anyway!”
“Because we need a place to test out ridiculous ship names and see if anyone notices. ‘S.S. Flying Toaster’ has a nice ring to it!”
“Because without Singularity, where else will we test if we can create the largest in-game conga line of ships? It’s a vital experiment!”
Nope, a variety of classes would be neat though. Just bring whatever you like!
I don’t believe they are related. This mass test was requested by the art team to evaluate the performance of the new smoke and fire effects. The VRAM update in today’s patch would have come from our engine team as part of routine optimizations/defect fixing. The latter may help with the former, though!
I assume this is a tongue in cheek jab at that those wishing for SiSi to return, as you just provided the top 10 reasons to not bring back SiSi. CCP would want to see these things happen on TQ as it’s “content”.
