This pirate is a really evil bully who is trying to take the mining permit that you Princess Aiko issued to us
We need this impostor princess wanna be frozen meatbag to be locked away inside a cargo container asap
I don’t mean to be pushy, but it’s been over two weeks and I’m being bullied. The target has been bumping and killing my Exhumers. I need your help princess!
If only there was a way to protect mining ships.
The trick is to try really hard to get them to kill you. They will then let you live to spite you.
Winston understands.
The joke is on Glen. He’s mining in an 0.9.
Let me know when you’ve survived a solo run on a Diamond Rat stronghold. You don’t have to win- you just have to hit it and survive. It’s not something you can do in a T1 destroyer.
I don’t know what that is Glen.
It’s the nightmare of every miner. We speak of it in hushed tones. Diamond rats will destroy any mining ship no matter how well tanked. Even I’m afraid of them. The squad of 5 sometimes employ warp disrupters which means that there’s no running. You have no choice but to start making plans to head out to buy a new ship.
Their stronghold is a nightmare on a whole new level. Using a T-3 Cruiser against a squad of 5 Diamond Rats is a very rough fight until you can manage to kill one of them- after that, you can start to relax. My Vindicator can almost one-shot them so I took that up to their stronghold. I struck it and was immediately warp scrambled and sensor dampened as no fewer than 15 of those rats warped in. I barely made it out alive.
Edit: I forgot- they almost instantly drained my cap too. There was no way to fight them solo at the stronghold.
That sounds like PvE.
It is. And deadly PvE… corrected
Where’s the PvP?
I made that mistake myself once. Unlike you the moment i saw the amount heading my way and with what was being fired. I warped out as fast as i could. And it still was a d*mn near thing as the first wave of missiles hit. By the time the second wave came in I was already into the warp sequence. Warped out with just a little shaking. Came back with some corp mates and ripped into them hard. Diamond rats are not fun.
Diamond rats unlike the garden variety of NPC Pirates fly in a fleet of about 6 or so when they land on grid in a 'Belt. Are well coordinated and hitt hard. The strongholds can be a nightmare if you are doing it solo. As these rats fly in formation and are very, very good at targeting you. Why I always try to land a good 50 or so klicks.. Sorry, kilometers, from a strong hold. To asses and see what I am really up against.
For players like me we are use to avoiding gankers, you, and blowing the everyday NPC 'Rats out of the sky as they show up. Diamond rats are different level. You can tank your ship to the ninth degree. And those bloody things are still going to make your mining ship into a pretty fireball in the sky.
I have yet to see a fit for a mining ship that can be tanked enough and blow those things out of the sky easily. Maybe with the new mining ships we might just see such a fit, but I am not holding my breath either.
They are still rats, right?
No… they are much more. Much much more. They use disrupters. They use armor reps… and good ones. They warp away if you attack with a strong ship and they come back with reinforcements.
Bro, diamond rats are rats.
Come on…

Yes you may refer to me as a rat.

@Glenduil those NPC rats are predictable and Princess Aiko isn’t.
'Rats that if you are not in a fleet are going to mess your day up. While you think that you gankers are the ones to be feared. Have to break it to you, But warping off when a ganker is come on grid. It is far easier than getting way from diamond 'rats. Those little bastards fly faster than you think.
