Mining the Conduits - The Micro Jump Depot Train, Business Opportunity

I really haven’t too many barges mining the Major or Minor Conduits, mostly due to the time that it takes to get from the beacon to a roid too mine.

But the genius of Sutopia Karl has saved the day.

He suggest that we use a Micro Jump Depot to breach the distances between the beacon and the roids. So I went to Jita and bought a few and deployed them.

They work within the Conduits unlike warping to the far away roids. Ship based MJD might also work.

How too use:

  1. Deploy the first one at the Conduit Warp to Beacon.
  2. Select a roid that is 120 to 140 km from the beacon.
  3. Align to the roid.
  4. When you are within 4,999 meters of the Micro Jump Depot, activate it and then burn the rest of the way to the roid.

Gankers will use the MJD as well to try and jump to your location.

Therefore, strategically placing the Micro Jump Depot in a Conduit is crucial.

Also do not mine in any ship other than a Procurer or Orca as a single Ganker catalyst can destroy a Retriever in a .5 Invasion system before CONCORD shows up. Using the Mining Frigates is okay because they are very fast and can burn out to a roid a lot quicker after using the Micro Jump Depot.

When selecting the roids to mine, remember to select the ones that are 20 to 40 km past the 100km of the depot’s jump range. The extra amount of distance between the jump in point and where you are mining will help create a buffer between you and the ganker.

Watch the Micro Jump Drive at the beacon, if small and large fleets of destroyers, cruisers or fast attack battle cruisers show up, align and warp out.

The key is too place the depots in locations where the gankers have to travel an excess of 20 km or more.

With the use of the Micro Jump Depot being a prime necessity for mining the Conduits I would expect to see an increase in their purchase price when the Invasion is closest to a major trade hub like Jita or Dodixie.

Clever idea. But it looks like an awful lot of work. And I’m not convinced about its usefulness. Especially for the depot if other people can also use it. I will definitely try the ship MJD though,

Moving from beacon to roid is definitely a complete pain, especially when the rocks are at 300 km distance. Then again, you only need to do that about four times if you are filling an orca. From my observation, an orca and barge can clear a conduit in about four cargo holds (although I cannot swear the conduits were untouched the couple of times I have done that).

Granted, I did lose a Retriever to a ganker in Faurent because I was mining 103 km from the Conduit beacon MWJ depot. He simply aligned to me and then activated the depot. I tried using my emergency MWJ depot beside me escape but he had already tackled me.

The depot works great but you have to put a buffer distance between you and the MWJ depot at the warp in beacon. An addition 40 km is more than enough distance to align an Orca and warp out or to use the Orca’s own emergency MWJ depot to hot shot out 100km and then warp away.

All you need are two MWJ depots. One at the beacon warp in and one within 4,999 m from your ship that is 140km from the beacon depot. An Orca might be nice to mine these belts with, but for the sake of the safety of your Orca, use Procurers.

Did the scordite crystals on your retriever actually work? I tested scordite II crystals yesterday and they did not. They were definitely much lower yield than a Strip I loaded on the same boat.

After you posted about using MWJ, I came across miners in Faurent doing just that. Curiosity got the better of me. I went up to beacon depot. Forgot to align. And promptly shot myself 100 km in a completely random direction. At least I knew they worked.

You can of course warp inside minor conduits but this does look like a useful idea for major conduits.

You effectively have to use a barge or exhumer anyway. I’m pretty sure that the drone nerf applies to mining drones, reducing the effectiveness of a solo orca. That said, I did take one into a “routed Ark” site and got a smallish volume of higher-end ore. I also got back out with about 50% structure left. (A porpoise fitted for 4 sec align would be a much better choice in future.)

Interestingly, the buff on mining lasers in footprint systems is about the same as from an orca anyway. However, the orca boost also stacks on top. So, a procurer and orca is probably the way to go. At that rate of combined boost, even minor conduit ore looks good in terms of isk/h. Although, in a 0.5 system like Faurent or in an ice belt system you would still be better going for an ABC ore or ice. Unless you can get access to a major conduit of course; which is presumably where you died?

I thought the Scordite mining crystals helped seeing as how the information regarding the Triglavian ore type was leaning towards Scordite.

Perhaps its time to take a load of mining crystals to a Conduit and begin a case study to determiner if one of the crystals has any effect.

I didn’t know that you could warp inside of a Minor Conduit, thanks for the intel.

Yep my Retriever got ganked by a solo Catalyst…but then in return I came back in a Procurer to the same Conduit and navigated all the way to the top of the large asteroid. I named the two tallest peaks and called asteroid Mt. Victory and then posted the images on the forum.

Thought exact same thing as you. Trained to scordite V in anticipation of Invasion ore. Tested reprocessing of conduit ore on Day 1. And definitely got a higher processing yield. Good.

After that I was always mining with boosts/ buffs anyway and never thought anything about the rate of mining. It was just by chance that I noticed Invasion sites don’t always give the boost (either by bug or only when ark present?). During one such time it looked like scordite crystals were doing nothing. Tested that yesterday and confirmed.

My best guess is that unless the scordite skills work on reprocessing only and not mining, then maybe it was something else that gave the processing boost? In the past, veldpsar crystals were CCP’s default to use on any event ore like tricarboxyl. So, if you do confirm scordite crystals do not work, perhaps try veldspar ones first?

as you can see none of them is specialized towards the rakovene group.
That means the best to mine those is T1 laser.
