Yo CCP,
I notice a huge amount of ‘missed inputs’ when using hotkeys outside of the F keys. Drone launching, modules set to other hotkeys etc.
This got me thinking, the F keys work reliably (I think) because they don’t produce input text when you press them. There’s multiple windows in game where if you click on them first and ‘focus’ them it kinda just blocks hotkeys and performs some other function for that window instead. For instance if you have the signature scanning window focused and I press F to engage drones and it highlights the FXI signature instead.
If you click outside of the focused window you can use your hotkeys again obvs.
I only bring this up because I’ve seen it happen to multiple other people and it’s annoying. Mostly just chalked up to “Eve missing inputs lots”.
There’s only so many F keys!
Solutions? Not sure but:
-Time out on focus or something? This might help in situations where you focus a window for then move on to doing another activity that requires a hotkey
-Just less situations where this can happen. Does the sig window need the ability to be type-searched?
I’m willing to bet that this happens to people more than they realize it! CCPLZZZzzz

I think this is related to the Photon UI overhaul.
I’ve had issues with missed inputs even on F keys and left clicks, as well as odd or unusual 2-5 second delays that screw with module activation/deactivation that are incredibly inconsistent.
It doesn’t happen incredibly often, but often enough to be an annoyance.

I agree, shortkeys should be more reliable.
This issue has been bothering me as well. As you said, the shortkeys change when another window is in focus.
In many windows this is useful. Dscanning window and signature scanning allows you to switch filters with the use of shortkeys, for example.
And when the fleet chat is in focus your keys will allow you to type, which also is immensely useful.
However, some windows disable shortkeys for no apparent reason.
The ‘saved locations’ window is such a window. Click on a bookmark and now you cannot use shortkeys anymore until the window stops being in focus.
Please fix that CCP.
Not my preference. At least with window focus you know that you can use your shortkeys again if you click another part of the game.
If you put such logic on a time-based system (timeout) then you run into even more reliability issues when you expected a shortkey to work but you accidentally clicked too soon.
I fear it would make shortkeys even less predictable.
Completely agree.
As I said, it doesn’t need to happen with the locations window in focus.
At least the sig window shortkeys have some use, but I think it’s an improvement if there too the shortkeys were removed.
Make shortkeys more reliable please, CCP.

Not just missed inputs - but phantom inputs. I’ll hotkey orbit, hotkey MWD and watch my ship head off in another direction entirely.
