Mission Help!

Looks like I’m getting the hang of how things work in-game but aside from mining, is there really anything else to do (I hate PvP/battles)?

One of the challenges of Eve, and the same challenge as Real Life, is the whole “what do I do?” thing. In many respects, mining is like doing a routine job to earn money to allow it to accumulate in a bank. Yes, you might be able to buy a nice shiny car/space ship but what are you going to do with it?

End of the philosophical analogy bit.

I like making things - running a small manufacturing business, learning about product supply chains and value add steps. I’m the kind of person that finds Adam Smith’s Wealth of Nations a really interesting book.
When making something you don’t have to do everything yourself - you can buy components or minerals you need as your skills and inclination (and opportunities for profit) arise. I find that engaging.
But I like modeling and spreadsheets.
There are groups that specialise in industry - it’s not just a solo game. They collaborate to make bigger more expensive items and share the profits.

There’s exploration - two sides: for the possibility of the wealth you will uncover, but also for the joy of seeing new places and finding out more about New Eden and the wider realms of Anoikis. Imagine just setting out one day in a basic exploration ship and diving into wormholes with a pad of paper beside you (or Tripwire open in a browser) recording what you see and a route home - or finding a route into another part of New Eden.
Space isn’t uniform, and there are many more objects, sights and oddities out there than you will have already seen or even imagined in game.
CCP have built a living universe for Capsuleers to explore. Go and find it. Join someone like the Signal Cartel, a group that specialise in mapping the everchanging wormhole connections and rescuing stranded players.

Join a larger group and run logistics for them - be that person who isn’t fighting in the war but is ensuring that others fight. I’ve run Transports full of ships into an active warzone, dodging patrols in order to restock our defenders. Is it PvP? No. Possibly. May be. Who gives a flying monkey what the label is. It was Fun. And it was of value. I was the only pilot in that corporation awarded a combat medal without appearing on any killmails. Without me, that battle would have been lost.

CCP appear to be restarting having story arcs again, events that unfurl in game where the path of them swings according to the interaction of players with those arcs. Join with others and explore these stories - join with others and create and influence those stories.
The biggest battle in hi-sec of the last five years was the result of the manoeuvres and schemes of Role Playing corporations interacting with a CCP generated story.
That was a “tens of billions” sized battle: massed battleships supported by logistics and e-war wings - which is a lot for hi-sec since no Capital ships can be deployed.

Fly and mine with a group of people - you can chat and chew the fat while smashing rocks. A relaxing social. Or take a mining group into a lo-sec pocket with a combat patrol watching for anyone who might take a pop at you.

Eve is about the imagination and about the people.
You aren’t taught it all in the tutorials, just enough to allow you to leave the nest. Where you go is your calling.
