Not necessarily true, especially since their stats can’t be verified by a neutral 3rd party… Not to mention the fact that if there really was a problem, CCP wouldn’t just come right out and admit it after always saying there wasn’t a problem…
So instead of admitting there’s a problem, they just save face and implement a change in game rules pertaining to the Starter systems, then later add more systems to the list of protected Newbie systems… And now to bring us up to date, they recently create and implement a ‘No PvP’ Starter Zone, all the while still sticking to their company PR line that there’s no problem of new players getting ganked…
So yeah, if there’s indeed no problem of new players getting ganked, then why go to all the trouble of implementing a ‘No PvP’ Starter Zone?
That would be interesting if they did that, and I think it would only help new players understand the game better. But I don’t think it’s because NS is incompetent with recruiting. It’s mostly that NS kind of has a higher threshold of SP and game skill level needed to be able to participate. Mostly that means being useful in fleet fights. While it is possible to be useful in NS fights even flying a simple Griffin, I guess they just want some basic self-reliance out of new members and it’s usually not the case with brand new players. And there’s also the spy paranoia thing that keeps them from recruiting complete newbs.
I think only a very small percentage of people actually join EVE with the sole intention of staring at a mining laser forever. People funnel themselves into that…because it is easy and they don’t have the gumption or mindset to actually do the PvP that was the entire ‘space battles’ reason they joined EVE in the first place.
So they pretend they have found some perfect role where they can ‘chill out’…when really they’re not playing EVE but spending 90% of their time on Netflix. And then someone who can PvP blaps their ship…and now they hate PvP because they are reminded all the more that its something they don’t have the gumption to do.
Let’s face it…the real reason these people whine endlessly about PvP is because EVE is hard and they’ve given up on ever doing it themselves. So nobody should do it. Classic dog in a manger.
Yes, as it has turned from suicide ganking to out right griefing.
It happens so much now, that you can go 10-20 jumps from jita and still run into 30+ gankers, people have been asking CCP to do something about it, yet they let it be, and then wonder why real player cap never goes above 10k
Mining is a low intensity activity. Other than being ganked, you don’t have to worry too much about dying during an extended bio or snack break…
My dog interrupts me on a fairly regular basis during the summer. It’s that whole “touching grass” thing… and the birds, the butterfly snacks, the occasional small furry animal to chase…
Im not sure why you brought that group into the discussion…as it will cause it to turn into more undesirable directions.
I have a friends list that make up of mostly folks that enjoy being the ganker, pirate, scammer, scum of the galaxy, or whatever you want to call them. They all are in fact the nicest people ive ever met in the game and i learned a ton of info from all of them.
The AO folks are a different breed all together and have a divergence i want no part of.
My amount of precaution is this game is pretty limited. I very often autopilot travel large highsec distances avoiding the common chokepoints.
I only remeber being killed by a suicide squad once when I was carrying loot in my Nereus. And they only managed to do so because the ECM module I used didn’t allow me to jump back through the gate. If I recall correctly, as it’s been a few years.
Aside from not being able to find an active corporation, or one with not too many requirements, players might leave for many reasons that deal with frustration.
Two I’m very familiar with myself.
The skills necessary to fly a ship that a new player might like. This is a bit alleviated by the 1 million skillpoints that can be awarded to new players via recruitment links, but it still exists.
The chore of traveling to rebuy and refit. This one is where ganking can feel frustrating. Even though some gankers might throw over some isk to help you out, as a new player you most likely aren’t stocked with replacement ship+parts at ready. In practice this is a denial of gameplay, as you have to dance back to Jita to buy yourself a new ship and hope you don’t get blopped towards that direction and out of station. And only after that resume actively playing what you want.
I’m ignoring new players that haul their entire savings with an autopilot to Jita. That lesson is well deserved by the gank. Punishing when your wallet is a couple millions deep and you’re carrying 10x in loot. Those people won’t mentally recover from such a loss.
For the problem of rebuy and refit, it’d be interesting for FC to try new things. Like if your ship is insured at some new higher level tier, you get the option to instabuy at Jita market sell price the ship+fittings and interbus delivers it in 12 hours to your highsec home station. Just an idea of a concept, no need to tell me the many reasons why it wouldn’t work
Ive been gaming in many different games for many years…ive probably heard it all. Its been hurled at me directly and to others i knew. The vile language in all these games come from all different situations. In EVE, its thrown about regularly, sure…but its just not gankers/griefers that do it.
I am a member of a channel full of folks you claim are vile and atrocious. None of them in fact are even close to being vile. They are simply playing the game the way it was designed to be played. As mentioned by another member here that you get along with so well…the only vile language i see are from other miners and players that dont have full understanding of this game and how it all works.
I do my part with giving flowers through ingame chat and mails to comfort them in their temporary hardships.
First, not having a “neutral third party” to confirm or deny any statistics isn’t really an argument. CCP/FC is a business company and they have little reason to allow “third parties” to watch their real player numbers and/or in-depth statistics of what the suspected reasons were to leave the game. Even if they’d do so, they would use that for internal purposes and have not the slightest obligation to make those statistics available to the public.
Second, we have to assume, that as a business company, CCP/FC follows logic. They need to make money, without profits, they can’t exist. The more profit, the better they can develop their product and build up reserves. So, in my book its a 100% certainty that if ganking would hurt EVE Online at a noticable scale, they would already have done something to root it out. And not just some little bandaid fixes which were mostly for balancing reasons and the ending of more or less mechanical exploitations. It exists for so long now and the claims that it would ruin EVE are older than most people play. IF there would be any truth behind it, even in baby-steps, they would already be at their goal and having it out of the game by now.
Very simple, and they have even communicated that clearly: Newer players were targeted a lot by people trying to trick them, bascially using the fact that a new player has no chance to know all the details of how the aggression mechanics work in this game. That, together with the fearmongering around ganking (note: NOT the ganking itself, but the constant lies around it like “there is nothing you can do!” “they are everywhere!” “You get ganked whenever you try to do anything!” blah blah), has given the game a reputation that new players “can’t do a move without getting instantly killed by some veterans”. Which obviously isn’t true, but the constant fearmongering, fueled by all those conspiracy topics here at the forums, scares new players to actually undock and just learn basic mechanics.
And Exordium solves that issue. You can undock, learn, test, get in contact with others and all that in a small safe zone that you can enter and leave on your own terms. If you want, you can stay there half a year. Find a corp, find some mentors, find out how the mechanics work that you need to be close to 100% safe in HS at least. Which isn’t that complex.
So, the implemenation was not a measure against ganking. It was a measure against the fearmongering.
There could very well be. But I seriously doubt that the link is as strong or as important as you seem to believe.
Not only that but EVE is a PvP game with some PvE elements so… yea…
You can basically do this already. The only part where it breaks down is the actual purchasing step due to market being fixed to your current region. The solution to this is a Jita Alt, but they don’t even need trade skills for what we’re doing here, because they’re just going to buy immediate. Literally any character will do.
If you have your market alt in your corp, you can just pop open the corp kill report window, select the lossmail, and hit the “Buy All” button. You can also use saved fittings, or simply link the lossmail to achieve the same thing.
Next, you take everything you just bought, select it all, and create a courier contract with it. Set the destination to where you want the stuff to go, set the collateral to the fair market value +/- of the goods, and the reward to .001 x Collateral x NumberOfJumps. Use .0015 for faster service. Link the contract in Haulers Channel.
For contiguous highsec, I get reliable same-day deliveries this way. For lowsec, increase the reward or just use a branded service. Or just wait longer, because as far as I can tell, there are some chumps dedicated hauler pilots out there who will deliver almost anything.
Here’s one I set up a while back to stock some stuff in Amamake, just doing the last mile myself.
But hey, if you wanna believe it, that’s fine… In my opinion that’s just smoke and mirrors, and I’m definitely not buying that company PR crap..
By the way, I’ve been playing this game since June 2008 and multiple times over the years I’ve seen CCP say one thing and then do the complete opposite… I’ve seen then promise stuff and then never deliver on it… When questioned about it, they usually go mute on the subject and then a short while later they’ll present some other new fangled idea to remove attention from the previous subject…
So yeah, since there’s no proof to back up CCP’s claims, I’m just going to continue doing what they did back during the ‘2011 Summer Of Rage’…

My friend, i started laughing and not at your post. At the usual suspects saying “No” and “Everything is fine” just look at them respond like fly’s on dung when these posts come up.
Yes ganking has put off many players, there are good gankers and the horrific pest type that never change their life and all they do is live in a dark basement.
That is why Exordium was released, cause of these over harassing pilots. I recently came back to the game and the level was acceptable some long time ago but they say once cancer spreads your finished. I guess this is the case in this game no matter how much new blood transfusions you get, it won’t change anything.
The good gankers made you think about refitting your ship more defensive and it did help to a point. The argument again is similar to haulers with no weapons and being a laughing stock over and over and over because EvE devs for some reason won’t arm them for in game economical reasons.
They say the game is designed to real universal laws, if that is the case then why can’t we arm haulers. O hang on a sec we forgot to do that. But we need to blow you up you see, this is the game. We want action and defenseless pilots to get massive laughs over your hard grind profits.
They thrive on this activity and just look at the billions they have made. I won’t totally put the fault on them but i will say to EvE devs start paying more to high sec players to make the scales balance evenly.
They now come for MTU my friend and just look at the gank kills on miners big and small. It’s a massive activity in this game. Their numbers and income has grown exponentially over time,
I can only wish for Exordium to expand in all areas of the game then i will park myself there for good. But then what happens to the gankers ? not my concern.
Thankfully, now that we have Exordium, we don’t need to worry about this issue anymore. Anyone who wants to play in the PvP free area is welcome to go there!
