Mutaplasmids constitute Gambling

I want to loosen my wallet.

He is really mixing things up. I told him about my investments in this particular part of the market and when I denied further info, especially on revenues, profits or losses, he got mad. Personally I think his assumptions is that someone always must have some kind of financial angle to a discussion. For me this assumption is funny, because it misinterprets in what way the Forums influences CCP.

Suffice to say that a somewhat large investment in this subsection of the market is probably going to be a long game. I wasn’t lying when I told him that I can’t tell him certain numbers, because they don’t exist yet and at the same time I refuse to tell him other details that I know. I could share my predictions, but I simply don’t want to.

Alas, the original inspiration for this thread came when I was mass-rolling cheap Mutaplasmids on cheap modules. I had acquired a couple of hundred Decayed of different types and just wanted to figure out the RNG-distribution, as CCP wrote this will not be normal distribution. While doing so I realized how fast this whole thing goes. 100 mods per minute, so to say.

Now, those cheap Mutas were mostly for gaining more info and there are no large profits to be made. Sure, some exceptions might occur, but those will mostly go into specific fits that I thought about trying out. Cheap stuff for the fun of it.

Then, I rolled the more expensive stuff a while later. It was clear that this is where potentially large profits can be made. Thinking back on how fast you can burn through Mutas and modules I realized that the same is possible with the most expensive stuff. Due to the RNG, which is very different from for example T2 invention, where for 100 runs you know with only small error what the outcome will be, I was getting worried that this might lead people to use real money. I’m not claiming this is happening, but for someone who doesn’t have much in-game ISK but hopes to make large profits with the high-grade Mutas, this might be tempting.

In turn I took a systematic look at it and came to the conclusion that the specific combination of how real money can be turned into in-game ISK and how the RNG is unpredictable yet potentially profitable enough to tempt people to spend more and more, looks like gambling to me.

I’m happy to read that other people think about it in different ways and I respect their opinion, even more so if they bring arguments for it. Even if they don’t bring any arguments and it is presented as opinion, I don’t mind. But not bringing any arguments and insisting that mere claiming equals proof is not right.

Anyhow, thanks for trying to untie this knot.

I’m not mad. You are.
I didnt sink 40bil on it. You did.
I warned you not to, but you did it anyway.

I asked what the market value of your stock, and your projected revenue from in it in next quarter. You refused to answer either.

Your OP asks if Mutaplasmids are illegal gambling, or lead to gambling addiction.
The answer to both, is no.

Wow, thanks for linking that. I’m just reading the BGH ruling. I’m not sure how much this has to do with EVE, but as it is about a license to use the program, one could argue that PLEX equals a 30 days license and that indeed with buying PLEX from CCP you have the right to resell it however you see fit. Not that this would make any sense as apart from being against the EULA (which then wouldn’t matter because law breaks contract), you could only resell for a loss. Then again, as I know the German judges, they might be extremely picky about the established ways to turn PLEX into in-game cash. They’d question that it is only a time-based license but has the 2nd property of being in-game cash. Since it is practically impossible to have access to this without having access to the game, this makes things even more complicated. You can basically choose to see it as time-license or in-game cash, because it used as both.

In other words: in-game PLEX absolutely has out-of-game value, namely 30 days access to the game.

I can answer that.
It has zero to do with EVE or Mutaplasmids.

You are using in-game currency to buy these, not RL money. RNG exists in nearly every other MMO on the market, Eve would be no exception. That is what this item is, simple as that. You can choose to use it and ‘roll’ for an enhancement or you can choose not to.

See: Mutaplasmids

I do suggest if you do really have concerns on this item to go ahead and open a support ticket as well to get an official response from a GM themselves.

That said, this thread has gone far off track and so I will be going ahead and closing this thread and cleaning up several posts in here. I do ask everyone to please be respectful of each other on these forums!

Thank you!
