This is an old idea I thought of years ago, but it came back to me again due to CCP’s refocusing on FW.
The basic idea is to combine the base t1 hulls with the 99% reduction in Scan Probe Launcher CPU requirement bonus the navy exploration ships have.
So it would look like:
Atron Gallente Frigate bonuses (per skill level):
10% bonus to Small Hybrid Turret falloff
5% bonus to Small Hybrid Turret damage Role Bonus:
80% reduction in Propulsion Jamming systems activation cost
99% reduction in Scan Probe Launcher CPU requirement
Condor Caldari Frigate bonuses (per skill level):
10% bonus to kinetic Light Missile and Rocket damage Role Bonus:
80% reduction in Propulsion Jamming systems activation cost
99% reduction in Scan Probe Launcher CPU requirement
Slasher Minmatar Frigate skill bonus per level:
5% bonus to Small Projectile Turret damage
7.5% bonus to Small Projectile Turret tracking speed Role bonus:
80% reduction in Propulsion Jamming systems activation cost
99% reduction in Scan Probe Launcher CPU requirement
Executioner Amarr Frigate bonuses (per skill level):
10% reduction in Small Energy Turret activation cost
5% bonus to Small Energy Turret damage Role Bonus:
80% reduction in Propulsion Jamming systems activation cost
99% reduction in Scan Probe Launcher CPU requirement
All other ship stats would be identical to their t1 variant.
The reason for this proposal is to pair the the propulsion jamming activation cost bonus with the scan probe cpu requirement bonus.
This gives the ship the ability to combat scan a ship and then hold it for an extended period of time.
If this is considered too weak for a navy ship, then consider adding extra defense (hp / resistances) or extra fitting space so people can add oversized modules.
In fact, thinking about this more, I think I would rather want those bonuses than the t1 damage bonuses. So if there’s not room for both, then prioritize defense so the ship can fit it’s role better.
I think id prefer some sort of between t1 and interceptor hull personally; there are already navy frigates with scan probe bonus and already combat orientated navy ships.
If you want a combat prober that can tackle surely t3d fulfill that niche?
Only fleet interceptor bonus for range really sets them apart from other ships i think; at max skills the capacitor bonus does very little though i couldnt be sure.
Always in favor of more Navy Hulls. However, I do not like the implementation here. We already have the exploration ships and although they do not have your suggested 80% reduction for propulsion, they still fulfill their role relatively well.
As well, many of the bonuses listed here are the same bonuses they hulls already have. A typical example of a Navy Bonus would be for the Caldari Frigate to lose the Kinetic bonus and gain a more generalized bonus (allowing it to more freely swap ammos: see Drake Navy, Caracal Navy).
I would much rather have these hulls have more interesting bonuses. The only difference this suggesting would implement would be adding the core probe launcher and likely additional stat loads. Instead we could for example add a Drone bay to the Atron, give it a webifier drone bonus but decrease drone damage. Otherwise they could be given a signature reduction bonus, warp speed bonus, stasis reduction or some other bonuses. But it should be something that fits their aggressive play style as a forward point or ‘hit and run’ ship.
Good call. Maybe give it the Griffin navy issue treatment then. 5 drones, but -85% penalty to drone damage.
My immediate though is agility. Iirc, the only combat ship in the game that can do a sub 2 second align, is the T3 Gallente destroyer. So, if that was given to this class of ships, where it could have a fast align without destroying the fit, it would give it a unique role in scouting and tackling.
Hey, sorry for going off topic, but the only reason I’m putting this here is because I couldn’t find any other forum page about new ship ideas that was still open…
I had an idea about ship designs that could lead to some serious customization but it would require several conditions to be met first. It would require a special rig on a ship that allows you to collect the wreckage of a smaller ship (and that wreckage retains its identity as the wreckage of whatever type of ship it was). Once you have the wreckage of two or three types of ships collected along with a large quantity of other materials and the corresponding blueprints of all ships, this new feature would allow you to essentially build a new ship out of the junk of multiple wrecked hulls. When building this monstrosity, you would be given options in a window similar to ship fitting simulator that shows you what parts of the ship would determine the shape of your creation. You would be able to choose between symmetrical or asymmetrical designs (depending on what types of ships you collected the destroyed remains of) and with a very basic system of snapping that has only a few options, you would be able to choose the general region where certain segments of each ship are attached to the rest of it. The qualities of this of this new ship are an average of the qualities of the individual wrecked ships. One of these cobbled together frankenships could not be sold on the regular market, but it could be sold in a person to person transaction.
I understand that this idea literally sounds broken, but I thought it was a cool enough idea that I can’t just let it be forgotten.
I even had an example of what this may end up looking like when you use it:
If you want to know how I did that, you can ask, but you will probably be underwhelmed.
The back story behind this particular ship is part of a story that I intend to write about my character someday. Basically, he has to go on some crazy adventure to save his girlfriend from a cartel, and in the process, his ship ends up getting wrecked on a remote planet. However there are multiple other wrecks on the planet, and his friend who’s a much better engineer than he is is also with them… The three of them manage to rebuild his ship from what they have available, and in the end make it much more powerful than it originally was. (In the next hostile encounter he’s involved in, the new ship is proven to be OP, with three turret hard points and two missile launcher hardpoints. Of course the way that these three people were able to do all this was by using an abandoned drone force on the planet.)
Well, none of this has actually happened to my character, and my idea isn’t completely lore friendly, but It provided some inspiration for this new concept. I hope someone likes it enough to pick it up and run with it to somebody who might be able to add it.
Navy Atron : web drone effectiveness bonus.
Navy Slasher : base signature reduction and warp speed bonus. (Basically make it unprobeable when fit appropriately.)
Navy Executioner : applied webifier reduction and agility bonus.
Navy Condor : large signature radius reduction from shields.
sig radius from mwd would be reduced class wide for the role bonus and it still needs the prop jamming activation cost bonus as well.
All ships would have higher base agility than their T1 counterparts based on a multiplicative ratio. Base time to warp sub 3 seconds.
I’m thinking just get rid of the damage bonuses all together and focus on survivability.
An alternative would be to just give all the navy fast frigates this bonus. Or at least one other race.
Minmatar would make sense form the webifier angle. And Amarr would make sense from the drone angle.
Maybe we do something like:
Navy Atron : web drone effectiveness bonus. (5 drones - 25m3 bay)
Navy Slasher : web drone mwd speed, range, and sig reduction bonus. (4 drones - 20m3 bay)
Navy Executioner : web drone also applies tracking disruption effects (5 drones - 40 m3 bay)
Navy Condor : web drone effectiveness and shield hp increased (bonus concept stolen from Guristas) (2 drones - 20 m3 bay.)
I have to be honest when I made my off topic post I didn’t even realize that was there XD
Imagine how embarrassed I felt once I did realize it was there…
I’m glad you liked the ship design
I went into more detail and revised part of my idea in an actual new thread once I figured out where that button was. Again sorry for going off topic–I just tend to be impulsive when there’s something I really want to say.
Also I really liked your idea of adding a drone Bay to the Navy Condor. The Condor is one of my favorite ships that I regularly use and I wish it could do just a little bit more damage.
Instead of giving these ships some odd bonus, we buff D-Scan.
While flying these ships, the player will recieve the distance to the D-Scanned object, regardless of whether or not it is on-grid.
Furthermore, the proposed ship can warp to d-scanned objects in space (though, not very accurately - will take consecutive warps to get on grid with the object.)
