Nerf Ganking Megathread

To me that’s a different situation. You can’t always guarantee someone can run a scout alt not everyone has the funds or pc resources to multi-box. Some people have to take every jump as it comes or never go anywhere without their corp and spend more time ship spinning than playing.

Also the forgone conclusion fight you described is very different to the 50 man blob fleet scenario and or the scenario where someone is mobbed with enough catalysts to break their tank in seconds.

You can say the route up to the fight is part of the fight but you can’t necessarily tell where the blob will be. You can avoid certain systems, you can check the number of deaths in system and you can still just be in the wrong place at the wrong time flying through the first gate the gankers happen to be on or the staging area for that 50 man fleet.

Sometimes the only thing you can learn from the fight is you are unlucky.

No, the scout alt is simply another character in the same account. I log them in, scout the route, maybe half a dozen jumps at a time, and then log in the main character. I’d used the scout alt to get far into lowsec, but got complacent on the way back. I use the same scout in highsec to scout ahead for gankers.

The only time I say GF is when it actually was a good fight, if we just blob someone I don’t bother, because it was not a GF and is insulting. That gankers say that they say it to be polite, is just disingenuous because most of their victims know that they were not in a fight, and therefore bristle at it.

It would be better just to not say anything, but that seems to be something that most of them are unable to do, they want the victim to bristle at it. One of the reasons I respect Kusion is because he does not say anything he just does his gank very efficiently and gets ready for the next…

Awwwww, did someone say gf to you?

You poor bullied miner!

That may be true if the gank victim was AFK or badly fitted or made no effort to scout or whatever…but I make myself very hard to gank. I follow ( and am often also the sender of ) corp intel on where gankers are. If I am gonna carry expensive stuff or collect a new ship from Jita I always scout ahead…especially after losing a ship to one incident of complacency. When I mine I am constantly alert and following my own rules ( posted here somewhere ) for avoiding being ganked. None of this makes it impossible to gank me…but it makes it hard, and thus I would give the gankers due credit if they got me. Like I said above, ‘gf’ for me is less a comment on any ‘fight’ it is more of a ‘yeah, you outsmarted me’.

Well, that puts me in a bit of a pickle.

A miner recently tried to gank me as I was trying to help build up my alliance’s coffers to help pay for all the griefer losses we’ve been taking recently:

I barely managed to successfully defend myself against flight after flight of elite military-grade Acolyte drones and save my mining vessel from destruction. Well, at the end of it all, right before disappearing from local, the ganker tells me this:

And now I have no idea what they meant by that! Were they congratulating me on finally proving myself as a fearsome warrior whom they considered to be their peer, or were they informing me that I’m a loser who will never catch up to their elite status, and should instead seek out sexual intercourse encounters in which I am the submissive party?

Now I will never know!

There is truth in what you say there, but you are saying GF to the ganker for getting you, because of the effort you made to keep safe then a GF would be fine. I don’t like to add salt to peoples losses because to me it is a game and I see need to get at someone like that. If a reasonable person could be certain that the ganker was actually being respectful rather than salt mining I think more people would just reply nicely.

Take Destiny’s post, in this case I would say Good Fight to that because I would have been tricked by the Venture and the victim was totally right to say it.

Perhaps the “gf” was an offer to be your anime girlfriend?

Oh god…Are you telling me I might’ve missed out on that?

Just as well you’d…erm…‘accidentally’ armed your mining Venture with Light Neutron Blaster rather than Mining Laser.

The way I see it, there’s two possibilities that each have the same optimal strategy from my point of view.

Either the person who killed me is not mining salt and I should give them a ‘gf’ because they’re a fine and upstanding person, or the person who kills me is mining salt and I should give them a ‘gf’ because I don’t want them to think I am salty.

Well I do need something to defend myself against those evil Sansha rats! One beam and one gun, for maximum fun! A drone for the wrecks and a drone for extraction, will lead to a lot of thrilling game action!

Holy ■■■■ why am I typing like this? Someone please help.

I presume you knew in advance that the Retriever had zero added shield fitted, as I doubt two Light Neutron Blaster would otherwise defeat a Retriever even in 0.6 space. Can’t believe so many go out mining with such crap fits…and your previous kill using that Venture was of yet another Retriever with zero added shield. Glad I joined the ‘Why Was I Ganked’ channel…as above all else it highlights the appalling fits people undock with.

A few days back I saw Aiko’s crew gank a low EHP Tayra carrying 4bn ISK worth of stuff. I think it was just 4 gankers used. I made the sarcastic yet true comment that my Gnosis would have got through to Jita with that cargo.

I don’t know anything about that. I’m just trying to do some mining, and elite null-sec PvPers keep attacking me.

CCP really needs to do something about all of the PvP griefing in high-sec.

No, it is not. It is extending the hand and saying, good game.

I do that if I’m successful in a gank, or if I fail. It’s just good sportsmanship.

Here, I’ll help.

2 day ignore list penalty added to you.

Happy to be of service.

Doing that means you can’t really know what is on the other side of the gate. In the time it takes you to jump through a gate the system could fill with gankers, a blob fleet, someone could cyno in.

Battle Ventures are tough as nails.

Why due credit when they might have got you for no better reason than you were the first person to uncloak in range of their tackle? It’s not like it was a challenge for them just because you put in the extra steps. You were simply unlucky, wrong place, wrong time.
