Nerf Ganking Megathread

What are you trying to say here? :rage: :cow:

The key to success is not that you stop being ashamed, but that you accept the shame.

Altara,

Would you agree that if a game didn’t have a feature or area and was then added to the game, it has the potential to bring in new players that would enjoy that new area now?

That is what removing ganking, and my argument is. You still have all the PvP areas you want, thousands of systems, but if you added a new area to the game, you don’t have to partake in that.

Romona let me explain it to you I do know now you will not get it on your own. Just because there is more people doing a task doesn’t mean the value of the task goes down. The other variables are, is there more demand for that task, are the people doing the task, growing in the same % as people joining the game before, and others.

I hope this helps with a revelation in your life, Supply and Demand it is a crazy concept.

JJ

Your that guy I saw at the play ground playing basketball with the pre-schoolers and loving that you were winning.

What a joke.

JJ

Let me explain something to you

When you started lying and misquoting me, you lost all credibility as someone wanting a conversation.

Sail on, troll.

OMG I lost credibility with Romona that can’t grasp supply and demand concepts.

WHAT WILL I DO OMG.

I will somehow get over it. Keeping asking the great question you have been, thread would be less without them.

On a side note what’s cool aid, as my government saw fit to ban it from coming to the uk I believe, I never really bothered to look into what the stuff is,

Are you sure? I think they still sell it in those “American Candy” stores that are big tax dodges.

Its just a powdered soft drink you make at home. It requires industrial amounts of sugar to make it drinkable though.

It’s also full of electrolytes, don’t forget the electrolytes.

I don’t ever want to hear I don’t come with documented facts again.

The actual saying ‘Don’t drink the Koolaid’ - as I understand it - is a reference to the Jonestown Massacre, when 800+ people died after consuming a soft-drink laced with poison, and provided by the ‘Reverend’ Jim Jones.

It seems to be a warning that one should not be ‘taken in’ or fooled by some proposition or other.

There has been some disagreement about the base drink supplied at Jonestown; it may not have been Koolaid, but rather, a similar drinkable confection.

It cant have been Ribena.

Koolaid is just a powdered flavoring added to water to make it taste better. Most of them were some kind of fruit flavor. Lemon, orange, cherry, etc. They probably still are, but now have indecipherable names like ‘Wild purple smash’ (which I just made up but should give you an idea). It can be sold with the afore mentioned ‘industrial amounts of sugar’, but most often it is sold as a sugarless packet and you add sugar to taste. Probably the worst part of it would be the dye. The dye colors everything, and it would not be unusual to turn the mouth of every child in a classroom blue, orange, or red with one pitcher of the stuff.

Wild purple smash ey.

I hear you. I don’t have much more to say except we disagree in details.

It’s only “bad risk adverse advice” that is “advocating [a kind of] grindy mindset” for players that are already risk-adverse and who look at themselves and think “Gee, I could grow a pair and become less risk-adverse, or I could sit and grind ISK for hours” and they decide to go for the latter.

There’s two ways to undock “what you can afford to lose”, one is interpreting “afford” as a mental cost and being more ballsy and being tolerant of losses in general, that’s the first one. The other is interpreting “afford” as a literal ISK cost and becoming a grindy carebear.

The first one winds you up ISK poorer possibly (but you go on incredible adventures and friends pitch in more than ISK anyway), but ISK comes and goes and one can still be confident in oneself regardless of the “net worth” stat. To some that play this game that’s a completely unacceptable outcome (“number only goes up and to the right”).

Yes and that is the crux of it. We should be clearer about what we mean with that advice to help out the more literal minded new beans.

Ganking has been around for a long time and honestly we all, especially ccp, need to take a massive step back and look at it and how it effects gameplay in the long run. The game in its current state is finding it difficult to find and keep new players. Most major corporations have been the same 10 people with 5-10 alts for the last 10 years. Ganking is a hyper aggressive ugly toxic form of gameplay that makes new people not want to commit to the game.

Im not a miner by any means of the word and youll never find a mining lazer on any of my ships but even im smart enough to know they are the backbone of this game. Without miners we have no ships or modules. No ships or modules means no gameplay. Ive steadily watches the games market sky rocket in prices over the last 10+ years. Miners are being ganked and to alleviate the loss they need to increase price to buy a new ship. Increased ore price means increased ship and module price. On and on the cycle keeps going in an unstable volatile fashion.

No matter what some of these massive ganker dedicated alliances want or cry about, ganking needs to be dealt with for the longevity and survival of this game. A quick simple solution that wont kill pvp in highsec, make it impossible to go red safety in highsec. Yellow safety still allows you to go and shoot suspects as well as neg sec status characters. You can still have wars in highsec as well as duel requests still being a thing. Low/nul still being unsanctioned all out war basically unaffected .

If that seems a little harsh thats because its suppose to be. The harsh reality is ganking is killing this game and the axe needs to come down on the toxic behavior and mentality that surrounds ganking. When you have entire corps/alliances dedicated to nothing but ganking. Channels dedicated to pulling in the ganked to mock them for the loss. Basically verbally assaulting and berating these human beings in local when and after ganking them. Thats when something needs to be done about it.

Love always,
RGC

I agree with everything RGC has written.

Ganking is fundamentally a toxic activity. Most new players quit the game because they are endlessly harassed. Gankers spend their time lurking around new player systems, trying to catch newbros in corvettes and unfit frigates. Without miners, we wouldn’t have any ships at all, so ganking is literally destroying the game and preventing anyone from having fun. Once we remove the gankers from highsec, we can start dealing with the griefers in Tama, which will allow newbros to branch out toward better isk/hr content.

Well said! The game we all love simply couldn’t exist without miners, and the gankers are deliberately targeting the most important members of our community.

Wait, something doesn’t seem right with what I had just read.
